Missing Redding woman's truck found in Tehama county, woman still missing

A vehicle belonging to a woman reported missing out of Redding was found in western Tehama County, according to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office (SCSO). However, 39-year-old Nikki Cheng Saelee-McCain has still not been found.

There are some interesting comments on social media, particularly the local fire & traffic page referencing the Tehama County Sheriff's log.

Occurred on Bowman Rd, in Cottonwood, CA. SUSC MISSING PERSON VEHICLE, DP154UT GRY/BROWN COLORED SUSPECT STATED HE DUMPED VEHICLE IN AREA OF BOWMAN UNKN CROSS NEAR BRIDGE YESTERDAY, VEHICLE MAY HAVE BURN DAMAGE. Disposition: Assisted.

This doesn't sound like a good outcome but I am hoping for a miracle for the family.

Initially, this case was being investigated by the Redding Police Department; however, due to information suggesting Nikki was last seen in the Sheriff's Office jurisdiction, the investigation has been taken over by the Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit.

- First major search, in the area around where the truck was found
- Family says that she was picked up at a residence near Win-River Casino in Redding. They've asked the casino for CCTV footage...meaning she was there?
- They say she might have been dropped off at her home on Olinda Rd.

Either way this info doesn't seem directly connected, resting on the assumption that at least she left her residence driving her car. (other scenarios would involve someone stealing it, or a home attack with the car being taken and dumped)

Only the log says "MAY HAVE BURN DAMAGE" I wonder if that was verified to be true or disproven. The car being found is already alarming but if it had burn damage, well, that makes it 100 times more alarming.

The local community came together for the first official large-scale search for 39-year-old mother of four, Nikki Cheng-Saelee McCain, who has been missing for two weeks with no known sightings of her.
Her four siblings say that Nikki has a vibrant personality and are surprised about her disappearance. Kaye Saelee-McCain says this is very unusual and unexpected.

Very interesting comments at link.

Not shocked by the potential burn damage to her truck. I've seen a lot of burned out vehicles in this area, and all of Northern California in general. Not a rare occurrence at all.
Her truck could have been left in a low traffic area and some random person got their hands on it, joy rode it for awhile, and set it on fire upon abandoning it.
It's highly likely that they never met her, just randomly & opportunistically came across her truck.
We have a lot of substance abuse &/or mental health issues in Northern California, which is complicated, to say the least, in areas with slim to non existent social services coupled with underfunded law enforcement agencies

There is far more to this story, read the comments at the KRCR link above. IMO, there is nothing random about this case. Major Crines is investigating for a reason.

I did read the comments. I still believe that whatever happened to her truck may not be related to any potential violence committed against her. Could be completely separate occurrences, which I think is important to note. No use looking for an addict that took advantage of her abandoned truck vs someone that actually hurt her

There are very few resources for missing persons in Northern California and Southern Oregon. Once you leave San Francisco there are no substantial services until Portland, a stretch of ~600 miles just on the interstate, not including everything west and east of I5. Most people don't realize how remote and isolated this region is. It's the most uninhabited area in the US, aside from Alaska. Look up how many unsolved missing persons cases there are in this region, if not already aware. Particularly missing women. I hope Nikki doesn't end up being one of them. The point is that if she's going to be found it has to be by community effort because no law enforcement agency, major crimes or not, has the resources to locate missing persons around here

Tyler McCain, the husband of missing woman Nikki Saelee-McCain, was in court today on assault charges.

The Washoe County Recorder’s office in Reno confirmed with Action News Now that Saelee-McCain and McCain are married.

Meanwhile, Saelee-McCain is still missing. This is the poster that you have probably seen on social media.

The sheriff’s office gave Action News Now this statement, saying in part:

“The missing person case of Nikki Cheng Saelee McCain remains active, and detectives with the sheriff’s office major crimes unit continue to work diligently on the investigation. Further details of steps being taken by investigators are not being released due to the integrity of the investigation.”

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - Tyler McCain, the husband of missing woman Nikki Saelee-McCain, was in court today on assault charges.

The Washoe County Recorder’s office in Reno confirmed with Action News Now that Saelee-McCain and McCain are married.

The two also share children. The Shasta County District Attorney's Office said McCain was in court today for a settlement conference to set trial dates.

McCain is charged with corporal injury to a spouse or child’s parent. Plus, felony false imprisonment by violence. Felony criminal threats and felony assault by means of force are likely to produce great bodily injury.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office public information officer, Tim Mapes, could not confirm if they are looking into the husband as a possible suspect in the disappearance.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 530-245-6135 or by email at MCU@shastacounty.gov.

Nikki disappeared 10 days after Tyler McCain was arraigned in court on the above charges.

This doesn't look good :/ Being a lifelong Northern California resident, I agree with what was stated upthread- the remoteness, and absolute vastness of this area cannot be understated. There's only really Redding, Red Bluff, and Shasta, then the rest of the state, maybe with the exception of Crescent City on the coastal border with Oregon, is absolute nothingness. But at the same time, very densely forested, full of the Trinity Alps.. So, so many people that have gone missing in this area have never been found, at much higher rates than other regions of the country. I'm really praying that she's somewhere, alive, and that she can still be found.
