There is a lot more information about his disappearance and family in a photo of press cuttings found on Ancestry on a tree which I think may belong to his sister. I would upload it but apparently it is too big a file to upload. Someone with more tech ability may be able to do it and if so it can be found attached to Judith Shaw family tree belonging to user jashaw126 on Ancestry. The most material bit is that he left his chequebook, passport and all spare clothes behind. That does not suggest a good outcome. He was born in Vancouver, Canada to a Canadian air force officer but went to school in Carmel - so a mix of US and Canadian. There is nothing in the clippings to suggest problems - quite the contrary. He seems to have been well provided for as a student; the car was old but restored to concours condition. He had just spent a year touring Europe. Apparently he got up from eating dinner with his 2 roommates at 8.00pm, drove off without any comment and they reported him a couple of days later, presumably having expected him to return.

I usually screenshot the information if I can't download it, then edit the images for easier viewing, any chance you can get some of the information that way?

The Big Question is “was the car ever located?”. A ‘53 Pontiac in perfect condition would be very noticeable. That would have been the obvious line of investigation. The parents appear to have been wealthy and may have used Private Investigation. There may be no public record of the results of that investigation.

Thanks for the suggestion. I cropped the bigger image as the second clipping is the lower one in post #10.

If someone has archived newspaper subscriptions, a possible search with keywords accident and Pontiac Chieftain could provide an article in the event Peter was heading somewhere specific and had a fatal accident with no identification on him. Also, a search for “abandoned Pontiac Chieftain” may result in locating the car if in fact it had never been located and may have been abandoned somewhere in a field or farmland. I’m not certain if that was confirmed or not. According to the follow up news article, it appears they had not located the car. Other option is submerged in water, they were on the coastline.

Example below. Also, saw one located in an AZ junkyard abandoned but no year was noted.

Oooh Caring1 that’s an interesting find and the car is light blue. I wonder if his was all light blue or if it had a white top. Good find.

I would like to know if authorities examined the apartment thoroughly. It's obvious they located the passport and all that, but did they find any signs of struggle? Did they interview Peter's roommates? How was their relationship? I think there's a possibility they did not tell the whole truth.
Did Peter usually leave at night? Were the bodies of water and ravines searched?
Even if the car was in good condition, I really think the most likely scenario is a car accident.
