Rebecca Zahau case: A Dynamic Loading Analysis of the Fall

--snipped--

I’ve been conducting a dynamic analysis of the forces and deflections that would have been involved in Rebecca’s fall from the balcony of the Shacknai mansion guest room.

I’d like to share my findings with you so that you can better understand why Rebecca did not suffer the traditional “hangman’s injury” when she fell from such a great height.

Lt. Nesbit said the intact cell phone and other items belonging to the victim will be returned "in about one week" to the Zahau family attorney, Anne Bremner. The Seattle-based lawyer wants the cell phone and evidence in the case turned over as soon as possible.

"We going to do everything we can to investigate and have the phone forensically examined," Bremner said.

On Sept. 2, the San Diego County Medical Examiner and the Sheriff's department ruled Zahau's death a suicide, meaning the criminal investigation was officially closed.

As a result, the case file – including police reports and witness statements collected by investigators – will be turned over to the Zahau family in accordance with California Government Code and victims rights laws, Lt. Nesbit said.

Bremner said she is conducting her own review of California law to determine whether the case records can be released to the media after they are obtained by the family.

Spreckels homeowner Jonah Shacknai, whose extraordinarily troubled summer became the stuff of national news, scored a business victory Tuesday when his company received government approval for a new use of a cosmetic enhancer.

Medicis Pharmaceutical (NYSE:MRX) produces Restylane, a filler used to combat signs of aging, that the Food and Drug Administration now has approved for use in lip plumping.

The company's application received preliminary approval from a FDA panel in April. Shacknai is founder of the Scottsdale-based company, which reported $700 million in revenues last year.
