[...]

Roman Anthony Lopez was last seen Saturday morning at his home in Placerville.

“After an extensive search of the area, involving multiple agencies, Roman was found deceased,” the Placerville Police Department said.

The boy’s death is being investigated as suspicious, according to the department.

Authorities say officers found him after conducting a search of a neighborhood in the community 44 miles east of Sacramento.

“Last night, right after the sun went down, some of the employees that work with the dad that’s involved brought a flyer by, telling us about the missing 11-year-old boy,” said Ed, a neighbor who asked not to use his last name.

Saturday was the first time Ed heard about Lopez.

“That was followed up by a visit from some of the officers with the Placerville Police Department,” he said.

Ed helped investigators search his property for the boy.

Officers returned a few hours later, Ed said.

“About 11 p.m., the police officers came back and wanted to go back into that property,” Ed said. “I got up, again, and helped them get through the fence.”

Police are releasing few details about the circumstances surrounding Lopez’s death, including who found the boy, where or at what time.

“At this time we’re conducting an investigation into his suspicious death,” said Sgt. John Meuser.

Neighbors watched from their yards as detectives collected evidence.

“It’s so sad,” said Jordyn Gilmore, who lives next door. “Who would’ve thought your next-door neighbor. Things happen and it’s just crazy.”

Gilmore said the boy’s family had moved in a little over a month ago.

“They have little kids, too,” she said. “Completely normal. They play out in the front yard. There was nothing weird going on.”

Placerville police and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office crime scene investigators were parked outside a church at the corner of Coloma and Bee streets Sunday, seen taking equipment from a specialty van around 1:30 p.m., just before media converged on the Police Station on Main Street at 2 p.m. that day.

The actual potential crime scene appeared to be 2892 Coloma St., where yellow crime scene tape roped off a house and at least two vehicles, keeping people away. The two vehicles, both pickup trucks including a 4-wheel drive white Chevy with an Indiana license plate of A425538, had their doors opened wide and yellow flags marking potential evidence were studded inside the interior passenger compartment. The second truck, silver in color, bore a plate out of Michigan, DXH 3123.

Passersby at Bee and Coloma Sunday afternoon, including three teenaged boys, said they had heard about the boy’s death and they added that rumors were flying regarding the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Some of the rumors regarded the manner of Roman’s death, but that detail was not forthcoming by Placerville police at press time.

Following the brief press conference attended by staff from at least three TV stations, the phone number Sgt. John Meuser urged people to use in order to provide information in the case went unanswered, although voice mail messages could be delivered. Other calls to extensions at the Police Department went unanswered as well.

What is known is that Placerville residents within about a mile of the Coloma Street house where it is believed Roman Lopez was found were awakened late Saturday night as searchers went door to door to ask whether any sign of the boy had turned up.

I believe he was missing, then found either close to or at his home, but details are still few and far between so take this as MOO, for now.

Worried that whoever hurt him, if this was homicide, was someone close to home. Just a feeling...MOO.

Can someone clarify for me. Is this the first time the neighbour even knew about him in general, or knew of his disappearance.
I am hoping this isn't a case of a family targeting one child with abuse til death

Missing boy found dead; police say 'suspicious'

Is it suspected the body was found in the church? Are the parents the type to hate hospitals and rather meaninglessly pray easily curable things away?

A few yards away from the memorial, colorful children sand toys, a yellow race car, and a plastic dinosaur could be seen strewn in the front yard of a gated home next to a church. The backyard was piled with trash bags and empty boxes. In the churchyard, a bouquet of sunflowers had been placed on a child-sized picnic bench.

Officials did not specify where or when the body was found, and the department said it would not be taking questions. But crime scene tape had surrounded the the home next to the church on Sunday, as reported by the local Mountain Democrat newspaper, with Placerville Police and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office vehicles parked near the church.

Placerville Police Department spokeswoman Commander Kim Nida told The Sacramento Bee that she could only confirm Roman’s body was found sometime Saturday and that no further information was being released Monday.
The department did not say whether any arrests have been made.

A crumpled poster was found on the ground in the quaint Placerville neighborhood, topped with the word “Missing” and with Roman’s name at the bottom and a photo of the boy in between; it asked for anyone with information to call Jordan Piper. The phone number rolled directly to voicemail when called.

An online records search for the phone number turned up a person named Jordan Thomas Piper, and the number included a Michigan area code. A man matching that name, with his residence listed as Grand Blanc, Michigan, could be found on Facebook. His job title on the social media site as of January 2019 was listed as “journeyman lineman” with IBEW Local 876, a union for electrical workers.

Four vehicles, three of them with Michigan license plates and one from Indiana, sat outside the home next to the church on Monday. In addition to two large pickup trucks, one of which was emblazoned with the logo of an Ohio-based electric company, there was a compact car and a black minivan with a child seat in the back.

The minivan and the large pickup truck with Michigan license plates each included the IBEW Local 876 seal on their rear windshields.

From my above post, it sounds like Roman’s body was not found in the church since the article didn’t state the crime scene tape surrounded the church.

Paraphrased from the referenced article. The neighbor Ed stated he had no knowledge of Roman living at the home. Another neighbor said she had seen kids playing in the front yard at one time.

“The Placerville police came by and I helped them get access to the property behind us and we searched all the trailers and stuff out back there that could be attractive for an 11-year-old boy to hide up in,” Ed, a neighbor who identified himself only by his first name, told the station.

Placerville is located about 45 miles east of Sacramento.
