The family of a 17-year-old girl, along with investigators from the Los Angeles Police Department, are asking for the public’s help in locating the teen who has been diagnosed with severe autism, officials announced Sunday.

Sara Nicole Castillo was last seen by family members on Aug. 9 near the 5400 block of Zelzah Avenue in Encino, according to the LAPD missing persons bulletin.

Castillo was reported missing around 2 a.m. on Aug. 10 after it was learned that she was no longer inside the family’s home.

Autistic Teen Reported Missing from Encino - MyNewsLA.com
She was reported missing by her family Aug. 10 around 2 a.m., when they discovered she was not inside the residence. Shortly after, she sent a text message to her father stating that she had stepped out of the home to get some air, but that she was lost and couldn’t find her way home.

Strange that she would step out "for air" and then get lost. Possibly she wasn't being entirely truthful about her intentions outside? I don't like to immediately assume my fellow autistics are inherently "gullible," but it's possible she was going out to meet someone who told her not to share where she was going with her family, and they did something to her she couldn't have predicted. It happens to neurotypicals all the time too. She could've also potentially gone out to a party and tried to walk home? Maybe she could have even been inebriated? Who knows.

Though it could just as easily (or more easily) be explained by going for a *walk* (in a new area no less) as opposed to just stepping out, a distinction that doesnt mean much when you're 17. You aren't paying attention to your wording like that you know?

All imo and speculation of course! I pray this angel finds her way home soon

The LAPD reported the teen, who was new to Los Angeles, has been diagnosed with severe autism and was unfamiliar with the area.

Worrisome. She apparently has severe autism and she is, not familiar with the area where she & her family live.
Apparently she sent a text msg. to her dad, so hoping she still has a way of texting her dad, and hoping her dad is able to send a text to her.

She was last seen wearing a gray floral-pattern shirt, gray shorts and pink flip flops.

Referring to thread #1. So she was caught inside the building opening the door to go out at 00:12:14, and then at 00:12:49 she is caught on camera at the outside. But not clear to me whether she is pulling and closing the door, or going back in.

ETA: 35 secs seems short but if you count, you need much less to go out. Has she esitated? Was she waiting to see a specific car or person ?

Sounds like she may have "eloped" aka wandered off. She could have been overwhelmed or upset about something and was not paying attention to the route she took.

Did she just stop texting back? Did her phone turn off?

The surveillance video is taken at 00:12 so just after midnight.

Good questions @sunflowermomma

See my thread #7, IMO she either hesitated to go out or she was waiting to see someone, you don’t need 35 secs to get out of a door…
The lack of follow up info does not help, could any of you find any update at all ?
Indeed what about the phone ?
