Alberts had previously been the target of fraud at the hands of a Los Angeles County “real estate developer” identified as Pauline Macareno.

''The sheriff said that just days before Alberts' death, Rostomyan and MartinDelCampo made a scouting trip to her home on May 24, 2022, indicating to investigators that she was the target of a murder-for-hire scheme.
All three men are currently in custody. However, Brown said that while in custody, Basmadjian suffered a medical emergency that left him "essentially brain dead."

''A 96-year-old California woman was killed in a murder-for-hire plot while she was preparing for her upcoming birthday in 2022, authorities said this week after they arrested a fourth person in the scheme that allegedly included financial abuse and fraud.

Violet Evelyn Alberts was found dead in her Montecito, California, home on May 27, 2022, and investigators found a broken window in the back of the home and ingredients for baking cookies on her table, said Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown at a news conference.

Alberts' cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation.

"She was a vibrant 96-year-old widow, a cherished figure in the Montecito community. Despite her age, she remained active and engaged, and she was known for her warm demeanor and social nature," Brown said''

I always wonder what makes people think they can get away with their crimes faster if they kill the victim. Especially in such a visibly violent way, especially employing hitmen with incredibly identifiable facial scars and tattoos, especially with presumably tons of paperwork connecting the victim's finances back to Macareno.

aww poor Basmadjian

wouldn't blink an eye if the rest of them suffered a similar fate

And, this was the motive....unabashed greed. LWOP should be minimum for all of them!! Monsters!
"Alberts’ two-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom home is estimated to be just under $6 million, according to the real estate site Zillow."
"However, the fraudster grew tired of waiting for Alberts to die to inherit her estate and masterminded a plot to kill the widow, according to Brown."

bbma You are absolutely correct. And, in this neighborhood pratically everyone has security cameras that
capture images of cars driving the area. Just thinking this wasn't her first attempt to defraud a senior looking into a reverse mortgage. I wonder if we will find out if she has attempted to commit a similar scheme on other unsuspecting seniors?
Tragically she might have gotten away with the fraud if she hadn't been so eager to "cash in." Incredible determination and investigation by the Santa Barbara Sheriff's department...you caught the deplorable perps!

Linkedin has a small profile listing of someone with same name, "mortgage broker" at Mission Mortgage (The picture sure looks like her) and another as a "Project Development MGR at Valley View Properties Inc" (no pic).... Could be how the victim first encountered PM?
So tragic, Violet must have been so frightened.
IDK but when does "L" remove profiles?

"Macareno was arrested in June 2022 for elder abuse and was slapped with a six-year prison stint for capitalizing on “Alberts’ vulnerability” by defrauding her.
She is pending additional charges since the murder-for-hire plot has been unearthed, Brown said."
