Thank you Lavender Moon. I have thought the response given by the husband was unresponsive answer. I cannot imagine anyone making that comment, "She is not here now..."when a loved one went missing. I would be thinking of all kinds of possibilities to offer the police. Was that done? I don't know for sure. Vermaas Jr is a well-known felon in Multnomah County having been convicted of racketeering and drug dealing. He seems a likely suspect but little has been done.
I have been told that Vermaas Jr does not like you to know much about his activities and there can be repercussions if he thinks you know something.

I hope Wilma's family and friends can know what happened to her. They deserve closure.
I recently met her husband. He lives in Portland Oregon and was married three times more. He never mentioned her once. You are totally right about him spending time in prison (14 years) and I believe he is a person with antisocial personality disorder. He is very dishonest, unfeeling and evasive and your suspicions might be right. If he and his father were running drugs on their boat, and she was on that boat, she might will be at the bottom of the ocean.

It seems that Wilma Rae married Gaylord Vermaas on 20 June 1973 in Multnomha, Oregon. It seems probable that this was the Gaylord Vermaas born 1953, although his father (born 1928) was also Gaylord Vermaas. Gaylord Vermaas seems to be a serious criminal. Best search engine for True crime stories | Mugshots.com gives a summary of a long criminal record including an 11 year sentence in 1990 for racketeering activity and numerous charges for drug crimes. I think he is currently in jail. Whilst this proves nothing in respect of Wilma's disappearance, I would expect LE to look closely at a husband who is a serious criminal (and 6'2" and 205lbs as well).
I completely agree. I have met him and I believe he has antisocial personality disorder, formerly classified as psychopathic. He was in and out of prison for 14 years, once for escaping, and then again after he restarted his drug business. This shows no remorse and an ego centric manner as he thinks he above the law. He is also a compulsive liar and has a history of using and discarding people when they’re no longer useful to him. He has no relationship with his three children or his relatives and basically has no friends other than a couple of prison buddies. I can’t believe the police didn’t look closer at him. His reaction to his wife’s disappearance is in line with that of a psychopath’s - no emotion, no remorse. I think he is a person who could be very dangerous.

Did they live in Los Angeles when Wilma went missing? They married in Oregon and he lives in Portland, so why California? Were they travelling or they moved there?
I would love to know if LE have ever questioned Gaylord about Wilma's disappearance. It's not even mentioned on the articles about his crimes.

Some possible matches:
The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) (I admit Virginia Erickson is more likely to be this Jane Doe)

I came upon this case while doing genealogy because I am distantly related to her husband (very distantly, and have never met him). I'm glad to see there are people actively interested in finding out what happened to her.

I didn't realize I'd already posted in the comments here back when I initially found out. Sorry for the repetitive comment. I came back to this because of the distant family connection. Some branches of the Vermaas family have had multiple consecutive generations of domestic violence (both reported and unreported) and it keeps nagging at me when I think of Wilma's disappearance.
