Police seized magazines for pistol, AK-47 in Danforth shooter’s bedroom: documents
Jan 15 2019
"The ITO indicates that inside his room, the dog found a drawer under Hussain’s bed containing two fully loaded 9mm handgun magazines, two loaded 7.62mm magazines for an AK-47 assault rifle, and various quantities of shotgun and other ammunition.

The officer also found two drum-style extended capacity magazines that “appeared full of ammunition,” police wrote in the ITO.

The documents say that the officer also located three other extended capacity magazines, along with loose 7.62mm and .357 ammunition."

"According to the ITO, police also located a number of conspiracy theory documentaries in Hussain’s room. The documents say police seized DVDs such as “Loose Change,” “Painful Deception,” “9/11 In Plane Site,” and “The Road to Tyranny,” which all claim the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks were perpetrated by the U.S. government.

The documents indicate that police also found several documentaries dealing with the Iraq War, titled Iraq for Sale and Weapons of Mass Deception."

Danforth shooter had long history of mental illness but motive unclear: police
"A police investigation into the Greektown shooting found despite Faisal Hussain’s extensive history of mental health issues there was no way for police to predict last summer’s deadly rampage on the Danforth.

Police chief Mark Saunders said while Hussain did not have a criminal record, he was “a troubled individual who was clinically treated for violence against himself and an outward expression of violent thoughts.”

The investigation found that Hussain had at least three interactions with police between May 2010 and February 2012 that required him to be hospitalized under the Mental Health Act for incidents of self-harm at school.

Two days before the Danforth shooting, Hussain was arrested for attempting to steal ice cream but no charges were laid.

Police say there is no evidence that Hussain was affiliated with radical ideologies, hate groups or terrorist organizations leading up to the deadly shooting."

"While Hussain was carrying seven magazines of ammunition on the night of the shooting along with a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun, the police investigation found he never applied for nor was granted a firearms license.

Police said the gun used in the shooting was made in the U.S. and was lawfully exported to Toronto in 2013. It was reported stolen in 2016 but investigators don’t know how it ended up in the hands of Hussain."

'It felt like a nightmare’: Family, friends mourn victims of Danforth attack one year later
A short ceremony was held on Sunday afternoon in honour of the victims and those impacted by the shooting.

Speaking from a stage set up in Withrow Park, located near the stretch of Danforth Avenue where last year’s shooting took place, Toronto Police Services Chaplain Rev. Wendell Gibbs stressed the need to show support and compassion to those still grieving.

“We are here to express our love and support and our compassion to the families of those who were lost and to those who were injured or witnessed unspeakable violence, as well as for a community that was shaken a year ago tomorrow,” Gibbs said.

Family members or designated representatives placed flowers in vases for the two victims. Their names, along with the names of everyone affected by the shooting, were read aloud, followed by a moment of silence.

Reese Fallon’s sister, Quinn Fallon, attended the ceremony and carried the flowers on behalf of her family.

Wearing a necklace with the name “Reese” on it, as well as angel earrings given to her by the Kozis family, Quinn Fallon said that it is hard not to be angry.

“Every day I will wake up and I will hope that it was a nightmare and then I will just realize that she’s gone,” she said.

Toronto Police Service :: News Release #47640
Chief Mark Saunders
Statement
Second Anniversary of Danforth Shootings

''Two years ago today, Torontonians were devastated by a shooting on the Danforth that left 18-year-old Reese Fallon and 10-year-old Juliana Kozis dead, 13 others injured, and a community in mourning.

While two years have passed, I am certain the memories are still vivid not just for those who were most impacted but also for the many first responders who rushed to the scene that day.

As Chief, I am proud of the Toronto Police Service members who attended the call, comforted victims, located the suspect, and worked diligently to investigate that unspeakable act of violence.

I am also proud of how this city responded and came together in the days and weeks after to show strength and support. May we continue to gather that strength and support as we take this moment to reflect on July 22, 2018.''

''Julie Dabrusin, the Member of Parliament for Toronto-Danforth, said in addition to remembering the victims, the community will also use the anniversary to acknowledge the bravery of people in the community who came together to assist victims during the shooting.

“Today is a big day for our community. It is a very emotional day, a day when we remember a really difficult time we had, the people we lost, the people who were injured. But also the strength. You saw Danforth Strong,” she said.

“There were people who opened their doors to people who were running for safety. There were people who ran out of their homes to help people so also maybe (this is) a moment to reflect on that strength in the community.”

The Toronto sign in Nathan Phillips Square was dimmed in honour of the victims.''
