Allen her x talks about A's paranoia..

Also, her mother DISAPPEARED after husband passed! I forgot that!

Audrey claimed her mother disappeared, however her dad died in the early 1980s and it seems Marie Doveika was still alive in 1994

from the timeline:
Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - Canada - Audrey Gleave, retired teacher, murdered in home, Ancaster Ontario, #6

1994 Audrey’s mother, Marie Doveika, (whom Audrey had said had “disappeared”) was listed in the Hamilton City Directory. still living at the South Oval Street address

Thinking of Audrey in terms of victimology, a couple of things come to mind as it relates to whether or not she knew her attacker:

- she was not in sleep attire, so presumably she was not awakened by an intruder
- had she suspected an intruder, I'm sure she would have let her dogs loose
- she seemed to be aware of a potential danger to her as expressed by her "raped and murdered" comment and her expressed fear of going outside alone at night without her dogs

IMO, because Audrey already had her guard up wrt possible dangers, and was more than likely awake and alert when her killer attacked, and her guard dogs were confined elsewhere ... she was not blitz attacked by a stranger, but more than likely conned by someone known to her.

FWIW, I'm not convinced that Audrey was really that much of a "nighthawk". Her usual weekly coffee at LV's (as recently as Dec 26th) was said to be 9:30 am; her first email to PK on the 27th was there whenever he first opened his email that morning; her second email to PK was timed 10:46 am. Although older people typically get less sleep, I doubt that she stayed up that late if she was able to be up and about, getting herself together and sending emails and visiting at a reasonable time of the morning. IOW, I'm not convinced that Audrey was killed at night, but possibly during the daytime when she would have been less suspicious of a visitor.

Okay ... I think I'm rambling here ;)

I think AG opened the garage door herself, in the daytime, thinking it was PK delivering the cake and thinking that he might have gotten the day mixed up.

Do these cakes last a long time, as iirc PK said outside the funeral home that he and his wife were going to stop by A's with the cake on xmas day, but that AG was not feeling up to it, as she had been sick before xmas. It sounds like the cake was made several days before xmas.

That's a very good point about the cake not being mentioned in the email to PK, as well as AG does not ask or say to PK in the email ...

- how are you and AK?
- did you have a nice xmas?
- I'll see you and AK on Thursday
- looking forward to my favourite cake

There is nothing to confirm a visit was planned for Thursday, only what PK has stated.

imo

DG has been in contact with Audrey in "recent years". It would be good to know WHEN he was in contact with Audrey last, and when that specific comment was made (i.e. was it around the same time that Audrey expressed her concern to her neighbour LF?).

IMO, if one is paranoid about living alone in a secluded setting, they don't become concerned to that degree after 30+ years without good reason. IF Audrey's basic makeup was that of a nervous nellie, I don't see why she would choose to remain in the home to begin with. I think as people age, they do feel a bit more vulnerable, but to express those very specific comments/concerns to friends OTHER than the two she seemed to be closest to seems strange.

If Audrey didn't express those concerns to those she spent the most time with, why not? IMO, it could be because she was concerned that one of them could cause her harm.

Was the cake delivered at 10am or 11am?

So, on Christmas day I called her to check in and that's when we set the definite time to get together around 10am on Thursday for me to drop it off.

He turned his silver 2002 Hyundai Accent off Indian Trail into the driveway, past the small pond on the right and larger one on the left, and parked on the far side as he always did. He was bringing her some of her favourite cake. It was about 11 a.m.

AG was described as a stickler for being on time. I would think her close friends would know and respect this, and make an effort to be punctual, and I think AG would expect it. I know "around 10am" leaves a little wiggle room.

Apparently, PK called AG to let her know he was running late. I have never read anything in msm regarding why he was late. It may have been because he drove his wife to work in Dundas first.

LISTEN UP - we don't talk about other members as if they are not here and can't read. If you have a question about another member's post - ask the member.

Also, as you know, it is against TOS to sleuth another member. You may ask them questions about their comments, but sleuthing them or calling them out is not allowed.

Be mindful here, many of you are crossing the line in your queries.

Her bank (and possible drive thru ATM for cash)

Also, there was the night AG and PK went to the hardware store for the missing mail box part.

- what hardware store was it
- did the store's security cctv see AG taking the part from the store shelf
- what time of night was it
- did AG hear something going on at her mailbox the day she was murdered

There was or may still be a small convenience store in Lynden. It is part of a home on Governor's Rd. (Hwy. 99) near the four corners of Lynden. In the past, iirc, the store stayed open at night.

It seems logical AG would have driven to this store on occasion for milk, cigarettes, etc.

Her car would have stood out in the store's parking lot for anyone passing through with evil on their mind and I wonder if AG could have been followed from this location.

So, I am wondering, if LE ever checked with that little Lynden store to see if they had cctv?

ROS, I have no idea why I think this but something tells me that they went to Canadian Tire to get/steal the mailbox part.

:dunno:

ETA:

Is there a Canadian Tire near Audrey's house?

------------------------

I was wrong:

It's just called "a hardware store". Please see link about Audrey's big night:

http://www.thespec.com/news-story/2111178-who-killed-audrey-gleave-/

About a month before she died, vandals had busted up her old one, he said. She “hated the guts” of whoever did it. She bought a new mailbox, and when she discovered that a part was missing, she recruited Phil to drive with her to the hardware store.

Audrey found the spare part on a shelf and stuffed it inside her big parka. She had Phil run interference, make sure no one was watching, and they scurried out the door. All this, even though she could have simply asked for the part at the counter.

“She was so excited, it was her big night,” Phil said. “It was awesome.”

Chuckles - I see that the 'story' about the mailbox part has an MSM link, but still think it's untrue. It contradicts so many other things related by the same person, and others, about AG.

Would appreciate another story from this source (other that the 'hug' while gardening story) in order to compare nuances, idioms, personality etc.

Maybe the source could finish the story regarding discussions with AG as to what should happen after her demise? So far that one has no ending.

I would be very grateful to the source if this could happen.

Yes, the gardening hug, but where were the gardens? I didn't see one garden outline at AG's home in the HS at the time of the murder.

It actually made me feel sad when I saw outside AG's home, as it appeared as though it hadn't been maintained for quite some time. Sad because AG was getting up in years and just couldn't handle the workload inside and outside her home.

How did AG do a full day of gardening with her arthritic legs?

Just MOO:moo::moo::moo:

Just commenting about Woodland's and ROS' posts hence no link:

I also find the "awesome" night in the hardware store and the 'big hug' to be tall tales even if they did appear in MSM.

Like ROS said, I also felt terrible for Audrey when we all saw photos of her home with no gardens. It made me very sad.

And as Woodland said, I'd also love to hear from the source again to clarify some/many/all of our queries here.

Rather a sarcastic remark as well... Her big night....
Why cuz she was older?
Give me a break.

- on Monday, AG emails PK, (subject line "Report") telling him she thinks she has a secondary infection (this would further delay a visit)

RSBM... just bouncing off your post...

The statement about thinking she has a "secondary infection" I find odd.

I've had a sore throat for over 2 weeks and at no point have I even wondered if I have a "Secondary" infection. I wondered if it was a "Bacterial" infection (or strep throat, so I went to see the dr after week 1), but I don't think I would even know what a "Secondary" infection would feel like... Does it feel different than a regular infection?

Also the "I've a fever" seems odd to me as well. I can see "I've got a fever"... maybe she just missed "got"...

The email doesn't seem like it's been proof-read. I get the feeling that A was a stickler for perfection and to not re-read the email before sending... to check for spelling mistakes or to see if it sounds right... Maybe it's just me that does that...

This is all my own opinion... I'm just agreeing that those statements do seem odd.

No stone unturned, there is a Canadian Tire in Brantford and one in Ancaster. Both about a fifteen minute drive. Whose car did A.G. And P. K. Take on this journey since he said he had never driven in A's car?

Oops I see it wasn't specified as a Canadian Tire.

C4 - I've always assumed they took his car to get the mailbox part. But, I don't know why Audrey wouldn't just go to which ever hardware store in her own hot, new, race car. Why would she ask him to take her there?

I don't get it!!

:twocents:

And to bodhi93 - again I've just been *assuming* that "secondary infection" meant that AG got over one thing when a second unpleasant thing took hold. Sort of like she went from feeling flu-ish to having a cough (just as an example of my thoughts about the wording of the e-mail).

:twocents:

More people at AG's property or at least one (invisible fencing) ...

What company installed the invisible fence on AG's property and when was it installed?

Do the same people who install the fence, fit the dogs with the special collars?

Also, according to msm, AG frequented WP in Dundas and let it be known she was looking for a handyman. This is where she met PK.

IMO, this would be against AG's terms of privacy, i.e. allowing someone she didn't even know to just come out to her house to see if they even wanted the job. As it turned out, she hired PK, but to walk into a store and be willing to give her address to a total stranger regarding a handyman position just seems odd as well, knowing what we know about her privacy issues.

Not only would this person have known her name, but now they have her address and that person tells a friend, and then that person tells two friends, etc., etc.

[modsnip]

IMO

Response to ROS' post above:

I recall JH not having the 'correct' type of camera for AG's liking and I also was wondering if she was planning to pay for a wedding photographer. Why else would a person ask about JH's (or anyone else's) photography equipment?

I don't know much about wedding photography but I'd think it's quite expensive.

QUESTION:
IF Audrey was going to give her handyman the photos as a gift. isn't that quite an expensive gift to give someone who isn't even family?

And now this takes us back to SL. Has anyone heard anything about her condition? Is she able to speak to LE? Does she have her memory back?

:twocents:

I wonder when Audrey was asked , or took it upon herself, to try to arrange the wedding photographer.
