''Durham Regional Police are investigating the mysterious and suspicious disappearance of two woman in Whitby.''

''At the house, police found evidence that led them to deem the disappearance of the women as suspicious.

''Burton is a black, five-foot-one, 125 pounds, with a light complexation, brown hair and brown eyes.

Noble is a black with a light complexion, five-foot, with grey hair that is usually worn in a wrap, and brown eyes. She wears prescription glasses and talks with a Jamaican accent.

Police have cordoned off a home in Whitby where a missing mother and daughter live.
''Police said Noble's hair is usually wrapped in a scarf, and she speaks with a Jamaican accent.

Tudos said a concerned family member contacted the police.

He noted that investigators are still working on the exact time when the two women disappeared and where they were last seen.

"At the time of yesterday's call, there was nobody at the residence. However, there are other family members that reside in this residence," he said.

"We have spoken with them. And we don't have any further information as this investigation still is unfolding."

Police are asking friends and family members who have not spoken to officers or anyone who has information to contact Det. McDermott of the Major Crime Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5411 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).''

''At the house, police found evidence that led them to deem the disappearance of the women as suspicious. Police wouldn’t provide more details.

“They are still missing and we are still holding the scene (at the house),” Acting Sgt. George Tudos said Monday.

“Forensics is on scene and collecting evidence.”

Rob Lewicki lives a few doors away from the women’s house and says they are quiet and nice people who keep to themselves.

“I just know them to say hi. They lived here about four years,” Lewicki said.''

“It is uncomfortable to have a forensics truck on the street for days.”

Another neighbour who asked not to be named agreed it was “unsettling” to have the police on the street and said it is “concerning” that women would go missing.''

This makes me feel really uncomfortable.
So these women live with others who didn't report them missing? And who don't seem to have useful information? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding.

Family members comforted one another outside the home of 58-year-old Ava Burton and her 85-year-old mother, Tatilda Noble, on Monday. The pair have been missing since Thursday afternoon.

It’s been five days since the Whitby, Ont. women disappeared, and loved ones visiting the scene were visibly upset.

Speaking briefly off camera, one family member described Burton as a God-loving woman. A long-time friend and pastor described the family as peaceful and loving.

As days go by with no sign of Burton or Noble, neighbours are also grappling with what may have happened.

“You always hope for the best, but I don’t know. You start to think after four or five days, you kind of start to think the worst,” said Bob Lewicki, who told CTV News Toronto he would pass the women while they were out in the garden.

“It’s a surprise really, because they are very quiet, very nice people. Say ‘Hi’, very cordial."

'Praying for a miracle': Family members anxiously waiting for safe return of missing Whitby mother and daughter
''On Friday, police said evidence of something suspicious was found in the home located on Scepter Place, just metres from the border with Oshawa.''

''Rodwell said with the passing of Ava’s husband she has just started to go out again and regroup. Now with the pair missing, it’s another hard blow to the family.''

''Guthrie said she took Burton to a family event on Sept. 25, and last spoke with her on Oct. 10. She said there was no indication anything was off. “Just like happy Thanksgiving. Hope all is well and she said, ‘All is well. Thanks. Love you’. Said love you back. Talk to you in a week.”

''Sonya Sykes is a first cousin to Burton’s late husband and last saw her at a family gathering in the summer. She said like other relatives, she is in shock. She said Noble moved in with the family in November of 2020 so the family could care for her.''

“I can’t unfortunately get into the details of what was found or located within this residence,” Acting Sgt. George Tudos told reporters Saturday afternoon.

“I know investigators were here for days and based on all the evidence that they’ve collected that they’ve sent to the centre of forensic sciences and also based on the investigation as it unfolds, they came to the conclusion that they are presumed to be dead and that’s how they got the information to lay charges.”

Ava has been found deceased, the second body is still unidentified.

A post-mortem examination on human remains found in Kawartha Lakes recently confirmed the identity of one of the two missing women from Whitby.

According to Durham Regional Police, Kawartha Lakes OPP were investigating reports of human remains found at a property on The Glen Road shortly after 7 p.m. on Oct. 24. Later that evening, DRPS was notified and assisted with the investigation.

Police say the results from the exam confirmed one of the bodies recovered as 58-year-old Ava Burton. The identity of the second victim recovered at the scene has not yet been confirmed.

“Post-mortem results indicate obvious signs of trauma to both victims,” reads a report from DRPS.

''The second of two bodies found near Kawartha Lakes has been confirmed to be that of a Whitby, Ont. grandmother who police say was murdered along with her daughter last month.

Investigators said that a post-mortem examination on human remains located in Mariposa Township, some 60 kilometres north of Whitby, on Oct. 24 revealed they were those of 85-year-old Tatilda Noble.

Results of the post-mortem on both bodies indicate “obvious signs of trauma” police said, though the cause of death was not disclosed.''
