“It appears to investigators that there was some effort put into concealing the body. It was not intact but we don’t believe it’s from animal activity in the area or things like that, we believe that what was done was purposely done,” said Coleman.

An autopsy was conducted on Thursday but so far officials have not been able to identify the woman.

“We’re utilizing several different techniques to try and identify this lady, forensically through dental records, but so far we haven’t been able to do that,” said Coleman.

She is described as:

Potentially between the ages of 20 and 40
Dark hair
Her left cheek has a distinguishable mark on it that was covered with a bandage

Calgary police say body found in Crescent Heights ‘not intact’, purposely put among trees

Calgary police are asking the public for help identifying a woman whose body was found in the community of Crescent Heights on Wednesday.

Officers were called to a wooded area on the west side of Centre Street N. and Samis Road N.E., northwest of the Centre Street Bridge, at around 8 a.m. by a passerby who made the grisly discovery.
“Not so much a scar, but looks like on the left cheek something has been cut or removed or some type of distinguishable mark that had a bandage over it–which we would surmise was pre-event,” Coleman explained.

When asked about the woman’s nationality, he said it’s difficult to tell “based on levels of decomposition at this point.”

maybe her face was injured by her mate who then killed her?

they keep saying they aren't sure he murdered her. is that standard for them to say there? was she perhaps an OD?

CPD has to say this because the cause of death either hasn't yet been determined or they're not ready to release it; however, they seem to be fairly sure that he at least took part in the placement process of at least what they've found of her so far. And this is where it becomes complicated, imo, because on behalf of the person responsible it is a severe act to dismember a body and such an act with an "out of fear" equation just doesn't add up. When people are afraid they dial 911 or they scream for help or get the neighbor. A homicidal psychopathic maniac on the other hand would dismember a body and try and hide it but then again even at that he failed miserably... because there was not a chance in hell that someone would not smell it from where the portion that was found was placed.

Perhaps, when the suspect was arrested, he claimed that she died accidentally from a drug overdose, and he was so scared that he made a mistake and cut her into little pieces. Then, because he was still scared, he spread her body parts around the city and in various dumpsters. Investigators are searching landfill sites for this woman's remains.

Investigators need her remains to identify the exact cause of death. If she died of an overdose, they need blood evidence. Finding all of her remains may be the difference between charges of first degree murder, and committing an indignity to a human body.

It is not standard for investigators to state that they are unsure whether someone committed murder.

rbbm.

Coincidentally, fairly recently, a woman's dismembered remains were found in the trash, on a very public street in Toronto.
A man was arrested for performing the indignity to the body, ect, but they could not say whether or not he murdered the woman.Weird times.

Police said at the time the discovery was suspicious, but it was not immediately deemed a homicide.

Investigators have not said how Cooper died. Ohab appeared in court on Saturday morning.

We can only hope that there is sufficient circumstantial evidence at the scenes of the murder to reveal what truly happened.

I have to agree with comments upthread that point out the obvious: if two people are stoned out of their minds, and one dies, dismemberment and disposal of remains around the city is a rather unlikely and bizarre reaction. First of all, why wouldn't a stone sober person would call emergency services? How could a completely stoned person dismember and distribute body parts around the city (which requires driving)?

It's very likely that the woman was murdered and the murderer disposed of her body in a way that he believed would obscure his criminal activity. When he was quickly identified, he lied about what happened. Alternatively, as a long shot, perhaps the man who did this is not all there, and did not know what to do with a woman who overdosed at his home.

Doesn't it seem a bit odd that this man is claiming that because a woman died of an overdose at his basement suite home, he decided to chop her into little pieces and spread her remains around the city? Chopping someone into little pieces strikes me as something that a seasoned murderer would do, not the first thought from an otherwise normal person with a guest who needs urgent medical attention.

Did he dismember her with his kitchen knife? Why would he think it is better to chop her into pieces rather than call an ambulance and let the autopsy demonstrate that she died of a lethal overdoses.

However, since police have said that it is plausible, there must be something more to this story.
