Emergency crews were called to Pharmacy and Eglinton avenues before 9 p.m. for reports that a taxi driver had crashed into a fence and was unresponsive.

Police said they found the driver alone in the vehicle with gunshot wounds.

He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition by paramedics where he later died from his injuries.

Police have since identified the victim as 73-year-old Toronto resident Christopher Jung.

Officers said a man wearing dark clothing was seen running away from the scene.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

The homicide unit is now investigating the incident. It was one of many shootings in Toronto over the weekend, four of which were fatal.''

“There are cameras in the car,” said Hubbard. “Hopefully, they will show what happened. We have offered police full support and given them all the information we have about routes.”
WARMINGTON: No public tributes for slain cab driver | Toronto Sun
''Toronto has so many shootings that now even the slaying of a taxi driver fails to trigger the outpouring of public grief and outrage that culminates in people dropping off flowers to create a memorial at the homicide scene.Toronto has so many shootings that now even the slaying of a taxi driver fails to trigger the outpouring of public grief and outrage that culminates in people dropping off flowers to create a memorial at the homicide scene.''

''Murder isn’t as shocking in Toronto the Good anymore, it seems.''

All that was on display at this homicide scene at Pharmacy Rd., near Eglinton Ave., where tire marks could be seen in the wet grass where the taxi jumped the road and slammed into a fence. Once a crew puts the fence back up and the grass grows back in, no one will ever remember that a man was shot and killed there.''

“He drove a taxi in Toronto for 40 years,” said Beck Taxi operations manager Kristine Hubbard. “We are devastated.”

''Const. David Hopkinson said while originally thought to be a stabbing, the taxi driver had been shot and “shell casings were found” nearby. It is believed the driver was struck in the abdomen.

Was the killer in the car? What was the reason? So many unanswered questions. Officers were taking a good look at this taxi, though.''

''Whoever this was should know Toronto Police are coming for you.''

See previous release.

As a result of the investigation, a young person has been identified.

Isaiah Twyman, 17, of Toronto, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for:

1. Second Degree Murder

A photograph of him is released.

He is believed to be armed, violent, and dangerous. If located, do not approach, call 9-1-1 immediately.''

Why does judicial authorization for the Canada-wide warrant expire in such a short time? Is this the norm in Canada? Would the warrant be re-authorized if he isn't found by November 3rd?

Interesting question..
Warrants | Rights Categories | Justice for Children and Youth
''Warrants do not “expire” after a certain period of time. They exist until you deal with them.

It is always better to turn yourself in than to be picked up by the police. The courts will usually look at you more favourably because they consider turning yourself in evidence that you are taking responsibility. If your warrant is in Toronto (or the GTA), you can turn yourself in to any division of the police service (for example, the Toronto Police Service). It is a good idea to turn yourself in at 7:00 a.m. on any day from Monday to Thursday. This increases the likelihood that you will be taken to court that day for a bail hearing and possibly released. If you turn yourself in on a Friday, you may be held throughout the weekend until they can take you to court on Monday morning.

It is a good idea to contact a lawyer before turning yourself into the police so that the lawyer can be at your bail hearing. Sometimes a lawyer can call the police ahead of time and arrange for you to turn yourself in.

Warrants outside Toronto
If your warrant is outside Toronto or in another province, you have two options:''

''Marsman said the suspect was a passenger in Jung’s cab, but he wouldn’t divulge what police believe led to the shooting.

“It (the murder) happened inside the cab,” he said.

“I can’t speak to the motive right now.”

“This is a particularly brutal murder, a violent murder,” he added. “We are eager to take him off the streets.”

Marsman said Twyman is “known to frequent short-term rentals in the downtown core” and he urged him to contact a lawyer and surrender immediately.''

Daughter continues to seek answers after father's shooting death last month in Scarborough
''Toronto police have named a 17-year-old male suspect in the shooting who they said was a passenger in Christopher's cab. The teen is wanted for second-degree murder.

"This is a particularly brutal murder, a violent murder, and committed by a young person. We're eager to take him off the streets," Det. Sgt. Henri Marsman said earlier this week, appealing for the suspect to surrender.

Jung said she was 'heartbroken' when she found out that the suspect is a minor.

"As far as I know, he had no relationship with the suspect. This suspect and him had never crossed paths before. This is like the only time, so that's what makes this homicide particularly unusual," she said. "I know nothing about this individual."

Jung said her father and mother immigrated to Canada from Poland in the 70s.

Christopher had been a taxi driver for more than three decades and just returned last month following a hip replacement surgery, Jung said.

"He was just in such good spirits, so excited to be back on the road and driving around the city," she said. "The future was bright for my dad. He had hopes and wanted to travel. I do really feel his life was cut short."
