''Police say a 39-year-old woman is dead after she was shot while driving her car in a parking lot Tuesday afternoon in the city's Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough.

The victim is Claudia Iacono, the owner of the Salon Deauville Coiffure Spa, where the deadly shooting took place, sources told Noovo Info. She was shot multiple times in her car in broad daylight.

Iacono was married to the son of Moreno Gallo, a man with links to organized crime who was assassinated in an Acapulco restaurant in Mexico on Nov. 10, 2013.

She had two children.''

''A police spokesperson said the suspect opened fire in the woman's direction and then fled on foot. The victim's car, which was in motion at the time of the shooting, collided with a building.''

''An expert on the Mafia says it is extremely rare for a woman to be targeted in a conflict between criminal organizations and suggests the killing Tuesday of Claudia Iacono, outside the salon she controlled in Côte-des-Neiges, might be the result of a problem between specific individuals.''

“If it is indeed related to organized crime, it is extremely rare. Women have been killed, either they were in the crossfire or they happened to be with somebody, especially in the 1970s. But for a woman to be targeted, it’s definitely rare, actually never seen in Montreal. Not here,” Pietro Poletti, a retired Montreal police detective and expert on the Mafia, told The Gazette.''

“One thing is for sure, it was not a professional hit man. It was in broad daylight and at (the intersection of) Jean Talon and de la Savane, which is like doing it at Ste-Catherine and Guy. That is what I find a little strange. When (Gallo) was killed in Mexico, that was really planned out.”

Poletti noted that Gallo’s wife, Iacono’s mother-in-law, was kidnapped a few years ago and was released after being held against her will for hours.''

''The situation is rather unusual in the world of the Mafia, where unwritten rules prohibit the targeting of women or children, La Presse said.

Crispino-Gallo was reportedly driven to a van or trailer with windows that had been covered with plastic bags, where she was held for about an hour with her head, hands and feet tied with tape. She eventually managed to flee by getting rid of some of her shackles and knocking on the door of a nearby residence, whose occupants called the police, the report said.

La Presse said Crispino-Gallo was slightly injured and had money and personal items stolen.''

''He added that it is too early to say more about the investigation, but he expects to see some kind of retaliation within the underworld.

"If it's connected to organized crime, it's one of the first times that we see a woman being targeted," he said. "We are looking into it to find out why it happened to that person, to that woman."

André Gélinas, a retired sergeant from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM)'s criminal intelligence unit, said wives are rarely targeted in Mafia attacks.

"One thing is certain, we have just crossed a line by killing the spouse. Now, this limit will be crossed by criminal organizations," he said. "It just sent the message that no one is untouchable anymore. Not even Mafia wives."

"I can't share much with you but we know it's connected to organized crime," said Fady Dagher.

Dagher did share one significant concern: that if, as suspected, the shooting death is linked to organized crime, it would be the first time in Montreal history that a woman was targeted.

"It is concerning. I'm going to be honest with you, but as chief, I was like, oh, wait a minute, did we cross a line? Are we going somewhere else now? This is our concern now. We are looking into it to find out what happened to that person at that moment," Dagher said''

A Montreal journalist who has been covering police investigations and organized crime for many years also said when speaking about the Mafia, that targeting a woman would be new territory for them.

Daniel Renaud of La Presse said there are "unwritten rules that you don't touch women or children if they're not implicated in Mafia activity."

He said he has spoken to many people, including people "in the mob world," who told him what was done "is unpardonable."

In an interview with CTV News, Renaud laid out the likely investigative route that Montreal police would follow to determine why Iacono was killed, which he presumed will include three hypotheses.

"First of all, they will see if Madame Iacono was killed on the order of someone close to her, because it's normal in a murder investigation that the police first suspect people around the victim," Renaud said.

Secondly, police will examine if she was targeted because of something she may have been involved in herself to see if it was a more personal settling of accounts, he said.

"Third, they will see if she was killed because of the link between her husband and the Montreal Mafia," said Renaud.''

Some think this was a Mafia hit, others think it might have been a personal or business related.
In this video, clips of CI's 3 tv appearances are shown in which she speaks about covid lockdown measures and her business, wonder if anything she said in them angered somebody? complete speculation, imo.

"It’s certainly something very rare," says retired Montreal police officer, Andre Durocher, of a woman hit and killed by gunfire Tuesday. Claudia Iacono was the daughter-in-law of an alleged Montreal mobster. Alyssia Rubertucci reports.

''A Brampton man has been arrested in the shooting death of a Montreal woman linked to the Mafia.
Joel Richard Clarke, 28, was arrested Tuesday night in Milton on a charge of first-degree murder for the May 16 shooting of businesswoman Claudia Iacono.
Her murder comes amidst several violent attacks in the Montreal underworld this year involving members of the old Rizzuto crime family.
The murder of a woman in a Mafia struggle is considered extremely rare.''

"It was very fast. We are very, very proud of the work of our investigators in this case. They have doubled their efforts," commented the commander of the SPVM, Jean-Sébastien Caron, during a brief press briefing. The veteran police officer says it is very rare for this type of homicide to be solved in three weeks.''

''Ms. Iacono was the wife of Antonio Gallo, son of Moreno Gallo, a former major Montreal Mafia player murdered in Acapulco, Mexico, in 2013. The 39-year-old mother of three children. The salon in front of which the tragedy took place belonged toMs. Iacono and a company in the name of Antonio Gallo''

Well, Joel Richard Clarke doesn’t sound very mob-ish.

"The motive, we're not able to give you that right now," said Caron, but the Crown saw fit to charge the man with first-degree murder.

"A lot of things are going on in Montreal right now, and we have all the information linked to this man."

Caron said he cannot say if Iacono was the intended target or not.

He said the suspect is known to Canadian police and has been connected to violent crime in the past.

''Montreal police say they’ve arrested a second man in connection with the brazen daytime shooting in May of a woman with alleged family ties to organized crime.
Police say the 30-year-old suspect was arrested in Toronto, where he’s currently detained on a gun possession charge.
He is expected to appear in a Montreal courtroom by video conference to be charged with first-degree murder in the death of Claudia Iacono.''

He will appear in a Montreal courtroom by videoconference in the coming hours to face a first-degree murder charge.
Montreal police say the man was the mastermind behind the killing, that he planned it but that it was carried out by Joel Richard Clarke, 28, who was arrested near Toronto on June 6.''

Mob wars: Montreal gripped by reckless and dangerous violence - Best of 2023

The Montreal Mafia was once the apex of organized crime. There are few clearer signs of a desperate mob than messy public fighting.

Fire-bombings, noting here because one involved a beauty salon.. fwiw,
