For some reason I cant quote the ones that replied to my question! I had to talk to someone at the rcmp and I asked him as he said that officials can't name the guy but said that nothing prevents the public from naming the offender

5 of the 7 injured victims remain in hospital...http://saskatoon.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=796367 Not on link, heard on same news broadcast... Marie Janvier 's funeral will be held in La Loche on Saturday. Dayne and Drayden's funeral will be held in La Loche Monday or Tuesday. The school will reopen in 10 days with security present.

Well, that's sad that 5 people remain in the hospital. :( I'm glad two of them were released. Being released this early hopefully means they can live a normal life (aside from whatever psychological trauma the shooting may have caused).

I don't know what happened in there. Canada is not forthcoming with details of events like these. But with, so far, no dead students (that were in the school) and two dead teachers, I really am still wondering if these two teachers were heroes that day. I hope if they were the Canadian press will at least give us these details, because if they did what I think they might have done, then their story should be a beacon of hope that shines on much more so than the despicable actions of the shooter.

from the Youth Criminal Justice Act:
http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/y-1.5/page-21.html#h-34

Protection of Privacy of Young Persons

Identity of offender not to be published

110 (1) Subject to this section, no person shall publish the name of a young person, or any other information related to a young person, if it would identify the young person as a young person dealt with under this Act ...

IMO, when the law says "no person", they mean just that. While LE may not want to (and probably wouldn't) pursue the matter, the possibility certainly exists that someone could be liable to charges for violation of the Act. (Can't find out what a sentence might be; not sure if it might be spelled out in the Criminal Code of Canada).

I can't find the link now (I will keep looking) but I read an article the other day where the RCMP said that expending resources to track down people making social media comments over the La Loche suspect definitely isn't a priority right now.

I see that a lot of the articles we have shared on here have identified Marie Janvier's father Kevin as the "acting mayor". Has anyone shared this article yet?

http://m.huffpost.com/ca/entry/9060900

Kevin Janvier, acting mayor of La Loche, was initially told his daughter was one of the victims, according to The Globe and Mail. But, it was another Kevin Janvier's daughter who had been killed.

The acting mayor said the mistaken identity "shattered" his heart.

I read about this the first day when news came out... I never read that the identity was mistaken. This is kind of nice, though, in a way. I mean, okay, imagine finding out that your loved one had died tragically... that's the part that sucks... but then you are told what every single 'sudden death' grieving family member wants... that no, actually, she's okay. She's alive. In that moment he realized she was alive it must have been like a dream come true. I can't imagine the relief. It must be surreal.

Just as a matter of interest .. finally found the possible penalty for publishing the name of a young offender. It's considered a violation of a Publication Ban:

from the Department of Justice website:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...ts/publi-publi.html+&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ca

Publication of the identity of a young person, a victim or a witness in contravention of the YCJA provisions is a criminal offence which can carry up to two years in custody.

There are a several exceptions to the rule against publishing the identification of young offenders. Information identifying a young person’s involvement in the criminal justice system can be published in the following circumstances:

1.where the young person is found guilty of a crime and the court imposes an adult sentence; ...
<bbm>

IOW, the name would not be released prior to sentencing.

From what I can glean, none of the other listed Exceptions would apply in this case.
