Police have set up a command post as they search for a missing six-year-old girl who was last seen in the care of a guardian at her home in Scarborough.

“What has us troubled is of course her age,” Const. David Hopkinson told CP24 on Tuesday morning. “She is not prepared for the weather, she does not have a coat and I don’t believe she has shoes. We have a lot of officers that have flooded the area and are searching for her right now.”

There are several police cars parked outside an apartment building near Midland and Eglinton where 6-year-old Jasmine Williamson was last seen overnight.

So was she alone or with someone?

Not many details yet. She was in the care of a guardian and last seen at 1 am. She may still be in the building.

Hopkinson said he doesn’t believe there is “any history” with regards to the girl wandering away from home in the past.

He said that police do not have any information that the girl is in “imminent danger” and therefore cannot issue an Amber Alert despite mounting concerns over her whereabouts.

He said that police do not have any information that the girl is in “imminent danger” and therefore cannot issue an Amber Alert despite mounting concerns over her whereabouts.

“For an Amber Alert to be issued we have to have information that she has been abducted and is in imminent danger,” he said. “We don’t have that. We are still working on all that has happened throughout the night. Officers are on scene. There are some that are investigating and most of them are searching for this little girl in the neighbourhood.”

Small child disappearing at night and the last person to see her is a guardian? Well, we know how this goes by now :-( She's gorgeous, poor baby.

Police are checking vehicles leaving the apartment building where Jasmine was last seen.

Hate to suggest it, but after recent awareness of the dangers of garbage chutes, maybe that is a place to look too, imo.

Man, I do not feel good about this.

She is such an adorable little girl.

Const. David Hopkinson said Jasmine Williamson's parents put her to bed, but she wasn't there after they awoke Tuesday morning.

She was only wearing pyjamas when last seen around 1 a.m. ET.
Teesha Pagnello, who lives in the area, has been searching around the building and under cars — anywhere a kid might go looking for warmth, she says.

Pagnello said she and other neighbours started searching for Jasmine as soon as they heard on the news about the scary situation.

"We can't just sit there and not do anything," she told CBC Toronto.

He said the child vanished sometime between when she was seen in bed and 7:40 a.m., when police were called to the apartment.

Hopkinson said there is currently no evidence to suggest the girl was forcibly taken from the home, but said police have reason to believe she is not wearing a jacket or shoes.
Hopkinson said officers and police dogs are combing the building where Jasmine was last seen, located on Gilder Drive, near Midland Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East.

He said the search is centred on that building for the time being, though he said all possibilities are being investigated.

One artic,e said she was put to bed at 1:00am. What!?

Don’t have a good feeling about this.

Does the building have any Cameras?
Agree with garbage chutes. I’ve had nightmares taking our garbage out in our condo. I’m almost 40 but I could fall in. I’m 5’3 and 110lbs. Would be easy for me to fall in or someone shove me in. Hence why garbage now stays in till my partner does it or my son when he finally comes home.

It’s still so cold. Where are you Jasmine? Be safe little one.
