If you open your web browser under settings you should be able to click on "incognito" or private window. That opens up a tab that is not being tracked. Using this usually gets you around sites that want you to pay

I don't know what browser you use, but I use Chrome. The 3 dots at the top far right of the page, if I right click, give me an option of new tab, new window, or new Incognito window. I'm not technically savvy enough to explain why, but the Incognito tab doesn't log your browser history, so you essentially bypass the mechanism that makes a news site say, "Hey, you've used up all your free turns!" Some news sites block Incognito tabs, which is fair enough, but so far the Globe and Mail has never blocked me while using one, though it did block me repeatedly from using a normal browser.

Thank you for this, but I stopped using Chrome and am currently using IE 11 and don't have this option. I've saved the instructions though in case I revert to Chrome. What a useful tip.

I’ll be surprised if the RCMP make a statement about the autopsy over the weekend, and in any event the pathologist may be waiting for test results. If it was murder/suicide, there would also be ballistics issues to sort out.

In the unlikely event that someone here doesn’t know it already, the CBC interviewed Schmegelsky’s great uncle last night, and it’s on YouTube at the CBC National channel. Looks like the great uncle, who comes off as quite normal/rational, is now talking for the family.

My apologies if this podcast has been shared already, it’s from Wednesday. But I found it fascinating - the radio host talked to crime specialist Ross McLean, who discussed the suspects’ possible mindsets and the disturbing similarity of a video game called “Rust” that Schmegelsky had logged over 500 hrs playing. ‎Bill Kelly Show: Podcast - McLeod and Schmegelsky, CBD oil and a tech fix for healthcare. on Apple Podcasts

If they were simulating Rust they would have been found running around naked with buckets on their heads punching wolves.
Seriously. What has happened is Nothing like that game. I know why people are taking it that way, but unless you have played it yourself(and yes, I am just assuming Ross McLean has never played it but I could be wrong) I don't feel that one can link it to this at all. Personal opinion.

You're welcome! I'm an avid newsreader without a lot of money for subscriptions, so I rely on it often. :)

It's been awhile since I used IE. And I don't remember that I ever was aware of it with IE, so it might not be an option. I can also do this by right-clicking on a URL to open it, for what it's worth, but again might not work for that.

Just watched an interview with a Sgt. who was involved in the intense search near the river after the boat was found. He said that they were on the run and that the location they were found was where “they decided” that was it. Interesting choice of words.

Manitoba RCMP describe 'harsh' terrain where bodies believed to be that of BC murder suspects were found — Global News

"Based on the location like I say, they were on the run. And the spot where they ended up, it's like you say, they kept moving and this is where they stopped, and like I say, the terrain they were in, I guess they just decided this is as far as it's gonna go, and like I say, to even to reach that spot it's it's difficult to walk in."

It sounds like this is where they decided to give up, but that could be giving up to exhaustion and the elements.

My mind immediately went to suicide when it was said they were found together about a 1/2 mile from their things, and this information strengthens that. I strongly suspect they killed themselves within a few hours of abandoning the Rav4 or, at the latest, the following day.

Of course, I could be wrong and all MOO, until official confirmation.

Good heavens. He says "...guess they decided it was as far as its gonna go" or something remarkably close (there is a little bit of mumble in there). So he is implying that this was their decision to end it there. Hmm. Thanks for posting that. I wonder if they left their clothes down by the water. This is so unbelievably sad. Imagine! 18 and 19 and you get yourself into such a horrible mess and take other innocent souls with you.

Ok so there's a longer version of this video on Youtube and...I think this guy definitely confirmed it was suicide.

1) "They decided this was as far as it's going to go" doesn't indicate to me that they collapsed from exhaustion, hypothermia, etc. Collapsing isn't really a decision. It indicates to me that they reached their physical and mental limit after navigating that far in the impossible terrain, probably heard the helicopters and so on, sat down, had a discussion, said "we can't do this anymore," and took themselves out.

2) When the reporter asked if there was any information on cause of death, the officer said, "we're waiting for confirmation from the autopsy," like he put an emphasis on the word "confirmation" as if the cause of death was already obvious when they found the bodies.

3) He actually came right out and said around 5:40 "determining cause of death, determining, you know, was it a homicide, was it self-inflicted?" I rewinded when I heard that because I was shocked that he would let that slip.

Wow. I know they brought this on themselves and hurt other people, so I shouldn't feel bad for them, but I don't want to imagine how incredibly dark and terrifying their last hours must have been.

Well, that's different. LOL

For what it's worth, the screenshots on his Steam account that looked intriguing were not from Rust. I think they were from something called Battleground Unknown. Or Unknown Battleground. Something like that. Not one I am familiar with and sure could have been coincidental, but it caught my eye nonetheless.

you really think someone could pull over and not see the two bodies lying where they were
that someone would have to be very unobservant IMO
not that that has anything to do with my original statement

What a driver’s eyes might not capture, dashcam footage might and the RCMP did make the request. While driving at night it’s useful because the risk of hitting wildlife on the road is greater.

Robbery has been mentioned since the beginning as the motive for the murders. The stolen Rav4 and related murder is also robbery/murder motive.

I'm assuming that their ID was in their wallets and their wallets were also missing. The reason that ID was significant is that they could not be identified for 3 days - until Chynna's passport was found hidden in the van.

"It appears robbery may have been the motive with the couple’s identification missing."

Eerie final sighting of murdered Aussie

I have pretty much stayed away from the Aus media just because I keep reading here that it's sensationalized... but I clicked the link because I was curious who was quoted in your post. It's not a quote, it's the reporters opinion... but I kept reading and found the following quotes interesting considering some of the discussion the last few days...

It appears robbery may have been the motive with the couple’s identification missing.

Mr Deese said investigators eventually found his sister’s passport hidden in the van.

Some media reports raise the prospect of a serial killer linked to the Highway of Tears murders, but the freeway where more than 40 people have been murdered or went missing is located 1,000km south of where Mr Fowler and Mr Deese were killed.

“I don’t think it’s a serial killer,” Ms Deese’s father, Dwayne, told the Observer.

“I think of someone who has been convicted of violent crimes before, someone on drugs.

“What worries us is that person is still on the loose and they have a head start.

“This is going to happen again.

“There needs to be some kind of a warning system in place for tourists.”

Haha it's a 'different' game for sure.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds?
If so, that one I cannot speak to myself.
I still think the video game simulating theory is a waste of energy, but we all have our own and I can respect that. Just wanted to add my take on the Rust mention. :)

ETA: League of Legends as well. I've seen that one pop up many times in other places. Also nothing like what has happened. IMO

Wow I can’t believe he let that slip!

Wow, I am surprised he said that. Good interview, though. He was very informative. I also liked how you could see the bugs hitting the camera to drive home the point about the insects.

Yeah I don't know how much they were influenced by video games in this. It was merely something I came across last night while I was inspecting his Steam account that intrigued me and I hadn't seen anyone talking about it, so I felt compelled to share for folks to make up their own minds. :)

And yes that is the correct title! I keep getting the sequence of words confused.

How do you know that?

So to be more specific police have not publicly released information or police briefs that responded to or answered those questions.

For those who will inevitably ask what questions - apparently the little arrow next to the name in the message quote box can be used to follow a quoted conversation and will be an accurate recap.

I'm catching up but sounds like speculation of suicide for the guys. If so, sounds they might've still had ammo but were stuck and at a dead end.

Also, would they count to 3 to do at the same time or murder/suicide? Reminds me of that movie Elephant (I saw many years ago) that was partly based on the Columbine boys. In the movie there was the more leader boy who just decided to shoot his friend/shooting partner but there was no pact, he just decided to shoot his buddy too. Chilling movie, still holds up sadly all these years later.
