Smells like the whole mens teams' hockey bags in April.
I've been pretty close to bears and never smelled them. One slept in my campsite 2 feet away from where I was peeing all night and she had 4 cubs in the trees above...had no idea she was there till dawn and opened my tent, eye to eye with her. She sat staring at me like a big 300lb dog, the cubs came down from the trees and they slowly lumbered away!

Of course, nothing like brown bears or polar bears, but I never smelled her, or the ones I've seen at Yellowstone.

The walk is too long, and they would have to cross Nelson River. The train goes north at Fox Lake.

If these guys are actually found in York Landing First Nation community, they may have taken a canoe down Nelson River from the converter station area, at the very end of the road.

Back in July 2017 those 2 German tourists were canoeing down Hayes River, to get to historic York Factory.

Theseg guys may have heard about their muskeg hike to Gillam from someone working at Keeyask.

I wondered if their game plan was to get to York Factory and then try to sail Hudson Bay to land somewhere in upper Ontario/Quebec. It would have been crazy, but then so is murdering people IMHO.

There has been no confirmation of anything, not how or when Mr Dyck died, if the car was his or any information about why they are also suspects in the couple's murder.

All very true! There are a lot of assumptions right now. I strangely hope these two are responsible for all the horror because if it is not them.....?

About all the flies and insects in the wood, when i was a boy scout, we camped in the bush in northern Quebec. We were there for 3 weeks in a semi survival mode. The first 3 or 4 days, all kinds of flies hunt you every second and there are hundreds after you. It’s very tough. But after 3 or 4 days without washing yourself, you become, like, invisible to them. Not that rough after.

"Schmegelsky writes in the book that a forensic psychologist diagnosed him as "delusional," a conclusion he disagreed with. His lawyer described him as "autistic" at one point, he writes, and he was ordered to attend a crisis counselling centre but couldn't afford to attend for very long as it wasn't a government program."

News Article from CTV News:

I think that this excerpt from BS' dad is so telling. In order for a client to have an assessment provided by forensic psychiatry they:
1) may have a significant mental health history warranting further investigation on a particular charge OR
2) are charged with a crime in which they may deemed "not criminally responsible" after having a psychiatric assessment.

Either way, this information leads me to believe that BS may be predisposed to a potentially psychotic mental illness (ie. Psychosis - ie. schizophrenia or otherwise - aka a delusional disorder).
As a nurse whom works within psychiatry in Canada, AB, this is my current assessment given the provided information.

I honestly can't help but be fascinated by this case. MOO.
@abnurse. Glad you are here! Its been rough going on any mental health discussions so far! Looking forward to hearing what you have to say!

I haven’t had such a good laugh in a long time..reading these posts. We may get scolded. I think a lot of it may be stress relief.

But seriously, I hope the locals are safe and the two are apprended alive so they can do their time.

I had a Finnish friend who told me about people doing that in Finland :)

That’s what I find strange. Why torch their vehicle and take his? If they killed him and drove off in their own vehicle probably no one would ever know, and they wouldn’t be linked to the murder.

They decided to get rid of their easy to spot "red truck with camper" for a less conspicuous but good vehicle.

Prof. Dyck happened to have such a vehicle, waiting in their escape route.

I would think if they were holed up in a cabin, too, they wouldn't have had to go rummage through the dump for food since folks have been talking about how the cabins are usually kept stocked.

I meant holed up closer to Gillam. When LE started to search houses and structures maybe they felt they had to leave. And you don’t have to go 30miles from Gillam to find hunt camps and other structures built for different purposes over the years.

Also, same article mentioned that BS' dad "couldn't afford to attend for very long as it wasn't a government program."
My comment is that I am:
- not sure if mental health services are the same in BC as they are in Alberta however there are many low- to no cost services available for people experiencing mental health concerns.

Oh okay I see--thanks for clarifying. I'm thinking they're not familiar with the area, freaked out when they saw the road literally dead ended, and decided to get out of there. MOO
