It seems the father was correct. May this dear young woman rest in peace. I hope the parents will find some relief if justice is served. I can not imagine the pain they must be feeling.

Father hopes 'good lead' will help find daughter's killer
"The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is in charge of the case. Earlier, Cpl. Annie Linteau said they could not comment on "rumours" that were circulating, including that Maple had been having problems with Dhaliwal.

Dhaliwal has no criminal record but several alleged driving infractions, including two that are still before the courts.

Batalia said he is learning more from his daughters' friends about what had been going on in the weeks before Maple was shot to death, including information that she was being followed and chased at times. But he doesn't want to say anything publicly that might interfere with the ongoing murder investigation."

Gurjinder "Gary" Dhaliwal, the 19-year-old former boyfriend of murder victim Maple Batalia, has been arrested and is being questioned by police in Surrey, sources tell CTV News.

Two vehicles believed to be related to the Dhaliwal family were towed from the area where the arrest took place Wednesday afternoon.

RCMP have not confirmed or denied that Dhaliwal was arrested

This is so sad. It just keeps happening. When will we learn? There is no answer in violence and murder. It doesn't help. It is only worse.

The former boyfriend of slain teen Maple Batalia has been arrested for allegedly phoning in threats to a local high school.

Gurjinder (Gary) Dhaliwal, 19, was arrested by RCMP on Wednesday, after Fleetwood Park Secondary School received what it preceived as a threat.

Police would not confirm the man arrested was Dhaliwal, but CTV News is citing sources who say it was.

Because of who was making the threat, police say the school felt it was necessary to call police and put the school in lockdown mode.

Homicide investigators are looking for a white 2011 Dodge Charger seen racing away from where Surrey student Maple Batalia was gunned down Sept. 28.

The vehicle was captured on surveillance video near Simon Fraser University’s Surrey campus right after Maple was sprayed with gunfire about 1:10 a.m.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound, of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, said police want anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area that night to call 1-877-551-4448.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said Dhaliwal is not a suspect in the shooting.

IHIT has no suspects at this point and still can't say whether the shooting was targeted or random.

Dhaliwal is due back in court on the assault charges on Oct. 17.

The Batalia Family must have been very happy when they received the news that the surveillance cameras had identified a car which could belong to the person who murdered Maple. The picture of the car is so clear that it must give everyone hope that her killer will be arrested very soon. What a relief!

Although the police said at this point in time Gurjinder (Gary) Dhaliwal is not a suspect, that doesn' rule out the possibility an acquaintance of Mr. Dhaliwal committed the crime for him. Time will tell.

I don't suppose the person who murdered Maple knew before they killed her that there are surveillance cameras in the parking lot. The picture of the car which the Police released to the public will sure put alot of pressure on this person.

Police said Gary Dhaliwal is an ex-student of the school so he likely knew there were cameras in the parking lot.

On Friday, Batalia's father Harry and her sister Roseleen pleaded with the public to help police find her killer.

"Turn yourself into the law," Harry Batalia said, directly addressing his daughter's attacker at a Surrey news conference.

"There is no way you are going to hide for long."

SFU spokesman Don MacLachlan said a “number” of students were studying overnight in the adjacent campus building and witnessed the shooting.

Thiessen said he couldn’t comment on information that Batalia had sought a no-contact order against a former boyfriend in recent months.

Although Police never identified Dhaliwal as the person Maple had an altercation with at a Tim Hortons outlet a few days before she was gunned down, Dhaliwal, 19, came to the Surrey RCMP detachment Monday and turned himself in on a warrant for the alleged assault of two people at a North Surrey Tim Horton's on Sept. 24.

Maple’s father said Dhaliwal was chasing around Maple and her mom. “They went to Holland Park for a stroll and they saw this boy turning around and going around where they went.”

Gary Dhaliwal identified himself when he contacted the school but police are remaining tightlipped on the details.

Her friends were aware that someone had hacked Batalia's facebook page, forcing Batalia to shut it down for several months.

This is just heartbreaking and so tragic that young people are mowing each other down, for nothing, nothing at all. My deepest condolence to the families who have lost their loved ones.

"Jamie Kehoe was an easygoing teenager who didn’t like to see people in trouble, which is why when a fight started on a public bus in Surrey, B.C., his family believes he stepped in to help.

RCMP homicide detectives are now trying to piece together what happened to Mr. Kehoe. The tall, slender 18-year-old with deep dimples and blue eyes was bleeding and unconscious when paramedics arrived around midnight Saturday. He died in a hospital later, apparently stabbed in the neck.

Police are looking for a tall black man and a woman who fled the scene, said Sergeant Jennifer Pound of the RCMP’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. Officers and Mr. Kehoe’s family are pleading for more witnesses to come forward.

Mr. Kehoe’s family is devastated. Family members were told the teen was trying to break up a fight between two young women when he was stabbed".

Charges stayed against ex-boyfriend of Maple Batalia

Charges of assault have been stayed against a former boyfriend of slain Surrey, B.C., teen Maple Batalia.

Gurjinder Dhaliwal, 19, had been charged with two counts of assault following an alleged confrontation at a Tim Horton's restaurant in Surrey in the early morning hours of Sept. 24.

The two alleged victims, a male and a female, both 19, cannot be named under a court-ordered publication ban.

A Crown spokesman said he could not release any details as to why the charges were stayed.

The legal procedure puts the charges into limbo for 12 months, during which time the Crown has the option of laying them against the former accused once again.

Maple Batalia, 19, died after she was shot Sept. 28. M. Colas/FlickrBatalia was gunned down in the parking lot of Simon Fraser University's Surrey campus Sept. 28.

There have been no arrests in connection with the shooting.

Earlier this month, police released university surveillance video of a late-model white Dodge Charger leaving the area of the shooting at high speed shortly after Batalia was killed.

""According to police, Jamie was with a friend on a bus in Surrey, B.C., at around midnight Friday when two women began fighting.

Kehoe said the women were sitting between Jamie and his friend at the back of the bus.

Contrary to reports Jamie tried to break up the fight, Kehoe said it was Jamie’s friend who tried to intervene. Another man stepped in to help the women.

Kehoe said Jamie was a quiet boy, small for his age. He said Jamie was probably terrified when he saw a “big guy” approach them in the back, but was trapped in his seat, with nowhere to go.

“The friend just said, ‘No fighting on the bus,’ and the next thing you know, the knives were out,” said Kehoe.

His son’s throat was slashed, said Kehoe. The knife punctured a main artery.
Kehoe was up north when he got the phone call. It took him about 36 hours by car and plane to get from Hay River, N.W.T. to Vancouver, but it was too late: Jamie died in intensive care unit Sunday. His mother Tammy was in the hospital with him.

“He couldn’t hold on long enough,” said Kehoe, who arrived at around noon Sunday. “I got here knowing that my son is gone and I’m all alone.”

“I had big goals for this kid. And because of a single, stupid, senseless act, he is gone,” Kehoe, numb with grief, said Sunday.""
