Plenty of new information...!!!!

Where is Mekayla!!!???

Lots of info. but so hard to make sense of what Mekayla was trying to achieve with all those phone calls, comments about going on vacation, going from store to store ect!
From link.
"Bali’s friends said she communicated with people through social media: Instagram, Snapchat and possibly an anonymous app called Kik.

Police in Canada have warned parents that the Kik is used by predators to groom young women, adding that it has fewer parental controls and allows strangers to contact strangers without any initial approval such as agreeing to be “friends.” The FBI is looking at what role Kik may have played in the kidnapping and killing of a 13-year-old girl from Virginia.

Zawislak said police have to go through U.S. legal processes to get information protected by social media companies under U.S. privacy laws.

“That is something as investigators we are dealing with more and more. People are constantly active on Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, there’s tons of apps out there that people can access and communicate with,” Zawislak said.

In some cases, Zawislak said, the information doesn’t exist because it was never stored by the company or only retained for a short time before it is destroyed.

Liang said using social media to chat with people in other places is not that unusual. She has done it herself, although she stresses she would never have agreed to meet anyone.

Bali's known social media accounts went silent, but they remain live. One Instagram account under her name has hundreds of followers but no photos, indicating there may have been pictures that have since been deleted. The “about me” section simply says “Goodbye.”

Do others commenting here think Mekayla was trying to run off with somebody whose plans on where to meet kept changing? Any ideas on WHY she would return to the school after lunch and just make her presence known and then immediately leave?
Welcome to Ws Mo123!
Sometimes wonder if Makayla intended to meet some guy and that he perhaps put pressure on her to come up with money for some "urgent" matter of some kind or another.
Maybe he purposely had her go from place to place, back and forth - to see if she was being followed, to confuse any future investigation, or even to make her "prove " herself as an obedient girl who will follow directions.

Thoughts, speculation for now- hoping that Mekayla is alive and just waiting to be found, although i suspect that she may look very different and not easy to immediately be recognized.
What do you think happened?

I surely do not have a clue based on the little bit of information. It seems like she had some sort of plan because she kept talking about a family vacation which i assume was not true. Perhaps there is a lot of information still being kept under wraps. I just pray she will be found unharmed.

I was really hoping that the newly released information would lead to a break in this case, but, I haven’t seen anything since it’s release. It’s coming up on 3 years, I really hope she will be found soon.

I am very interested in Mekayla’s story and have been for quite some time. I think about her every day. From everything I have read and listened to and searched the internet for, my own opinion is that she was waiting for someone that day and that person ended up doing her harm. Whether that means the unspeakable or other awful things like human trafficking, kidnapping, etc I am not sure but I think this is the only plausible explanation based on the facts. Nothing else really makes sense. That being said, I also believe not enough of people know of her story or know her face. I plan on putting up some posters where I live, just to remind people she is still missing because even I forgot until the new evidence came out in February. People are out and busy looking at their phones, going about their own business. And if her picture was up at bus stops and on posts etc I just feel it would bring even more attention.

I have a question regarding her social media. I have been unable to locate her own personal ones yet I have heard she had up to 12 different accounts under different names. This may be false. But recently even someone posted that her social media is still live. Is this true? If so, any way to make it easier to find? I have done multiple searches and I’m fairly tech savvy and have not found any.
Thanks.

Welcome to Ws CarlyMarie_sh, it would be very helpful and nice of you to put up posters, thanks!!

It's been said in a couple articles she was seen taking apart her phone and putting it back together. They have also mentioned many calls she was seen making (assuming she was actually making calls when holding phone to her ear) do not show in Telus records. I believe it's possible she was switching Sim cards back and forth.

Anonymous chat applications are also likely part of explanation for no records. Maybe they explain the no record issue entirely, but I personally think she was switching Sim cards.

I also personally believe her three calls to TD line were her checking for $5000.00 she mentioned to a friend. She expected something in that bank account.

All my personal speculation.

Welcome to Ws Mbee!
You might be right about expecting money in the bank, will try to find a news link.

I only heard about this case from a different case that I was following... media coverage doesn’t stretch too far in Canada apparently.

How does a young girl just vanish?

Sask. mom still looking for daughter 3 years after disappearance

When reading anything from the Mothers viewpoint vs from anything or anyone else, it's a little like two different cases. One is about a sweet, introverted quiet girl isolated in her small town life. The other about a clearly troubled teen who was seemingly communicating with random internet strangers as much as with anyone in her own local peer group. This teen repeatedly called her bank line, brought a full backpack to school, attempted to pawn an item, and also attempted to get a hotel room at points before going missing. She had something cooking imho

None of that is to say I believe she's a runaway or at fault in any way. The opposite actually. I believe she was naïvely participating in risky internet social behaviour as a young teen can do, and a criminal predator took advantage. I think her mother simply doesn't have a full understanding of her daughters internet usage / online relationships and is telling her side as she sees it.

I do not think this teen ran away with permanent intentions, to be gone for good or even can be considered a run away. Sadly I think she has fallen victim to a criminal, all starting with her internet usage. Just speculation.

I agree with you Mbee. Teenagers are always on their phones and are much more savvy at hiding their apps and tech stuff from parents. Also at mekaylas age, it's the "you dont trust me" and "I want privacy" age. (Not saying mekayla was like this but I know I sure was like that towards my parents)

What concerns me is that her friends were aware of a few guys she was talking to online. One friend commented it could be up to 4 different guys tho she only knew 2 by first names, which the cops did interview.... but who were the others??
