Thank goodness!!

So, he was fine to kill his stepson, and fine to stab the woman at the bank, but he was too cowardly to take his own life.
Pathetic, messed up individual.

BTW, I heard on the radio (CBC) that his ex-GF (the mom of the murdered boy) stood up for Kuijer, saying that he never showed any violent tendencies and that he had been a good man. The day before, I heard a neighbour quoted on the radio (CBC) that she had heard Kuijer yelling at and demeaning his stepson out her window. It wasn't clear to me whether that was ongoing or just once (as I tuned in late) but I had the impression that it was on more that one occasion.

So who was this guy? Just a regular guy who "lost it"? Or, an unstable guy who was simply focused on his own needs and revenge?

Oh wow. I was surprised that she was saying that he was a good father too, I did read that. She was leaving him because "he wasn't getting help for his depression." He is obviously not stable and not a good man, sorry to disagree with her. He did this to hurt her IMO. Like the doctor who killed his kids in Quebec when his wife was moving on with her life. He then tried to kill himself by drinking antifreeze (!) No sympathy from me for JK. Disgusting and sick.

CP24: JK couldn't get a bank loan and was upset, motive for stabbing the banker.

I hope she is able to heal. She will forever have PTSD I'm sure from this. All for doing her job.

The bank doesn't "owe" anyone a mortgage. The bank employee, who is following the policies given to them by their employer, is only following instructions from their employer. THAT EMPLOYEE OWES YOU NOTHING. YOU SHOULD NOT "SHOOT" THE MESSENGER.

I worked for a life insurance company. The people who worked in the disability insurance area had to be kept in a locked, undisclosed location. An employee of a company who suffered an injury or mental illness that kept them from doing their job sometimes had to be told, if appropriate, that their employer's plan didn't cover their circumstance. It depended on what level of coverage the employer signed up for and paid for. The poor employee, who now saw their life falling apart around them, often blamed the insurance company. Or, in other cases, they blamed their employer, and showed up there "to take some people down."

No winners. Sometimes life just sucks.

:rose:
A slate grey sky hinted darkly that the heavens were on the verge of weeping.

And those tears were reserved for Nathan Dumas as hundreds of friends and family gathered in Fonthill to say goodbye Friday.
His mom called him a “true superhero” who only wanted to help others
.
The service — at the Pleasantview Funeral Home — featured a video montage.

Snippets of a lovely life, of Nathan playing with his brother and sister, learning archery with his grandfather and improvising a song while washing the dishes for his mother.

Dumas said that Nathan — a Grade 2 student at Harriet Tubman Public School in St. Catharines — was a “true empathist.”

“He always knew when someone was sad or needed help. He would be the first one to the rescue. As his friends have said many times, he was a true superhero,” she said.

"Where do I even begin to find the words to articulate the effects of the biggest loss and most traumatic thing that I have ever experienced in my life?"

Whitney Dumas choked back tears Friday as she explained to a judge the agony and torment of losing her seven-year-old son at the hands of her estranged partner.

"This haunts me every day," she told Justice Stephen Glithero. "It crushes my heart and soul and shakes me to the core."

Her former common-law spouse Justin Kuijer, 44, pleaded guilty Friday in a Superior Court of Justice in St. Catharines to charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault. He returns to court Tuesday for sentencing.
