I thought of the Lakeshore/Parklawn attacker as well. The size of the man and way he walks are consistent with the Semret attacker.

I also considered the case above. The suspect here is seemingly older and smaller than the guy in the Semret case.

However;

There isn't much to go on in the N.Semret case, as the age and ethnicity of the attacker aren't clear.

The elderly woman at Dundas Square, for understandable reasons, probably gave the police a vague description of the suspect.

The bizarre nature of this crime, and the fact that it was committed with an edged weapon, would make one wonder if there is a link.

"“Male DNA – blood – was detected on the black canvas bag the deceased was carrying. Those male genetic DNA profiles are all from the same individual.”

However, the DNA profile did not match any information in the national data bank.

“The blade was over 20 centimetres in length. At least one of the stab wounds touched her spine, travelling completely through her body,” Giroux said at the news conference.

Giroux said the attacker likely wounded himself with the same knife but may not have sought medical treatment.

Police are looking for someone who had a knife wound in his hand or arm around that time"

Video, LE ask for help from public. No reason for brutal cutting off nose.

Yes, a terrible attack.

The fact that it was completely unprovoked makes a link with any other unprovoked assaults a possibility.

I wish we had a better description of the suspect.

Here is a cctv pic. of two poi.
They seem shorter than perp who attacked NS. imo, but the one to the right ( in blue) has a similar, familiar gait.

"According to Detective Constable Gianni Filippin, the attack was unprovoked and there wasn't any indication that the man was trying to rob her.

'It was just a random attack,' he told the Toronto Star.

On Thursday, police in Toronto released images of two men they say may be able to 'assist with this investigation.'

According to Constable Wendy Drummond, the two men in the surveillance images were in the vicinity at the time of the attack.

'We just want to speak to them to see if they have any information. If they heard anything, saw anything,' she told the National Post.

Police are currently looking for a suspect described as a man 40 to 60 years old, and between five-foot-six and five-foot-eight"

By the looks of things, these men are being sought as important witnesses, instead of suspects, but that may not be the case.

I wonder why the police did not give an ethnicity/race to this suspect.

A 20 year age range possibility is considerable. My guess is that this poor woman was so scared that she couldn't give the police a good description.

This was another brutal stabbing and murder of a stranger by a stranger with a knife.
No idea if it could be the same person who murdered NS on her way home from work as pic. and ethnicity of perp. has not yet been released.
This poor guy, a hardworking family man, finishes a long hard day on set and stops for a cup of tea and is brutalized by a stranger with a knife, stabbing the back of his head.

"Mr. Parker had been married for 23 years to his high school sweetheart and has two daughters, 18 and 19, both of whom are in their first year at Concordia University in Montreal.

The family is completely devastated to have their husband and father completely ripped out of their lives so violently

Aside from being a firefighter in Markham, Mr. Parker also worked as a freelance set designer and had just finished shooting a Christmas commercial Friday night around 8 p.m., said Mr. Michaels. He and two friends from the production crew decided to have a couple of beers at a nearby bar and after several hours they parted ways. Mr. Parker went to pick up his bike, which he had parked on Danforth Avenue.

He decided to stop by Rotana Café first, where he knows the owner. It was while sitting on a couch sipping tea that Mr. Parker was stabbed repeatedly in the head by a stranger"

It’s unclear how many times Mr. Parker was stabbed but his most serious injury was a knife wound that went through the back of his head and through his brain, Mr. Michaels said.

Police are calling it a completely random act of violence

Doctors surgically removed part of Mr. Parker’s skull to relieve some pressure but his wounds proved too grave.

Nabil Hurhuy, 23, was arrested in Scarborough Saturday afternoon and charged with first-degree murder, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of carrying a dangerous weapon

"Shortly before 10 p.m. July 30, the suspects entered Romuldi’s basement apartment where he was entertaining his girlfriend, Dagney, 44, and their friend Erika, 59. Romuldi was only alerted to the suspicious nature of the visit when one of his friends confirmed they didn’t know the strangers.

That’s when Romuldi said he was punched in the face by the man who then held a kitchen knife to his nose, demanding his bank cards and pin numbers.

“I didn’t resist,” Romuldi said. “I’m not trained in combat. He said something like, ‘Are you a redneck?’ He put the knife on my nose, he punches me and I told him, ‘Take the damn wallet.’”

Then, a knock at the door."

"The suspect’s family can offer few clues.

"After waiting to catch the last glimpse of Huruy as he is taken away, his distraught mom, Aziza, and sister, Susan, finally exit the courtroom. You expect they will tell a sad story about mental health problems not addressed or treated, about a young man who may have needed help and had fallen through the cracks.

But that is not their tale at all. They insist Huruy, a waiter, has been under tremendous “stress” because of his all-consuming obsession with a challenging girlfriend.

“He was in love with her, nobody else. She would play mind games on him. She’d say she was coming home and then not come. It’s been stress for a month,” the sister eagerly explains in the hallway.

“He tried to move on with his life but she would make new girls not like him. That would build stress,” she says

"Police remained tight-lipped Monday morning but Sun sources say investigators will reveal that the two deaths are believed to be linked.

Semret was brutally stabbed to death in a Cabbagetown laneway, just steps from her home, on Oct. 23, 2012. And despite a massive hunt for her killer no arrests have been made in her slaying.

Some of Ghirmay’s dismembered remains were found May 24 in a piece of luggage dumped along Alliance Ave., southeast of Jane St. and Eglinton Ave. W.

The rest of her body parts have never been located.

Earlier this year police said Ghirmay was likely killed in her apartment in a highrise at 285 Shuter St., near Parliament St., and they had video of a man cleaning up blood at an apartment building at 101 Humber Blvd., near where the luggage was located.

They also have video from both buildings of the man moving luggage.

Adonay Zekarias, 41, was arrested two days after the grisly discovery and charged with indignity to a dead body.

Police could not immediately confirm Ghirmay had been murdered.

Interestingly, the accused is also from Eritrea, a country located in the Horn of Africa.

Police have also said Ghirmay and Zekarias once worked together as cleaners at a downtown hotel"

Man, 42, charged in 2 Toronto homicides

Kudos to Det Giroux - early on he took this one to the streets in an innovative manner and won. Surely he had to overcome language and cultural barriers to find the donor of that DNA.

Good job!
