Ryerson University student killed in fatal downtown shooting remembered as passionate writer and good friend | CTV News
''The fatal shooting of a 20-year-old Ryerson student in downtown Toronto has left an entire school community in shock and grieving.

Toronto Police have identified the victim as Olivier Dundas, a journalism student at Ryerson University.

“He was such a good person. I don’t know why anyone would do what they did,” Curtis Martin who first met Dundas in his first year of university, told CTV News Toronto.

Martin said Dundas was a founding member of Over The Line, a digital sports publication run by students, and is being remembered as a good writer, but more importantly, a good friend.

“I want him remembered as a guy who could be serious and really was passionate about what he did, but at the same time if someone was down, he was there giving us a good laugh,” he said.''

Just devastating, imo.

''Counselling available to Ryerson students, employees
The university said the death of a student can be "difficult and upsetting for our community" and counselling is available to students and employees at the university who may need it.

Students can find out about services available to them at the Ryerson Centre for Student Development and Counselling.

As well, the university said Keep.meSAFE is a mental health counselling service that specializes in student mental health support and provides 24/7 access to licensed counsellors through telephone and mobile chat. Mental health care can be provided in over 60 languages and students can also access the service from outside of Canada, the university said.

Employees who need counselling can access the employee and family assistance program for resources and counselling.''

“They were young adults having fun, not looking for a confrontation with anyone,” Crown attorney Rochelle Liberman said in her opening address at the trial for the two men accused in Dundas’ death.
“Unfortunately, while they were out and minding their own business, they were approached aggressively” by three people, she said.''

''James Galinato, 24, and Jay-Ar Carbonel, 25, have pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder; Liberman did not identify the third individual. ''
