Divers search ponds near Debert in connection with missing person case | Truro News
DEBERT, N.S. —

"RCMP divers spent a good portion of Thursday painstakingly searching the silty, weed-covered bottom of several ponds in Debert for evidence related to the disappearance of Peter Anthony (Tony) Walsh.

Walsh, 35, has been missing since Aug. 23, when a witness saw him get into a truck in Truro. His abandoned 1999 Chrysler Sebring was later discovered outside a Truro business.

“Investigators have received some tips and information from the public and we are following up on that information,” said Cpl. Jennifer Clarke.

One tip, received after the RCMP issued a second media release on Sept. 23, “indicated that we should check the area around the Debert Cemetery,” she said. “We conducted a ground search of the area on September 10 and 11 with negative results, and are now checking the small bodies of water in the area.”

"Two sets of divers from the RCMP’s H Division Underwater Recovery Team in Halifax simultaneously searched separate ponds, carefully working their way through nearly a half meter of bottom silt and heavy masses of chickweed that clung to face masks and other diving gear."
Const. Thomas Murphy, who was holding the communication rope and serving as the divers’ anchor point, said the goal is to basically conduct a thorough search without leaving any gaps.

Underwater visibility on Thursday was restricted to about three metres with each overlapping pass limited to about one metre of pond bottom.

“He’ll search the area like a pendulum swings and at the end of every pattern we’ll let out three feet and he’ll do it again,” Murphy said. “So, he’s continuously covering just three feet more of the area, he’s overlapping every time he goes back and forth.”

If there is anything to be found, the pendulum pattern is a proven search method, he said.

“We can find shell casings using this kind of method,” Murphy said."

Disappearance of N.S. man being investigated as a homicide
''The RCMP has determined he drove to various locations, including Millbrook, Truro and Debert that day.
A witness told police they saw Walsh getting into a truck in Truro. His own vehicle, a Chrysler Sebring, was left in the area and later recovered by his family in the parking lot of a Truro business.

Walsh was reported missing on Aug. 28.

Police say Walsh’s disappearance was initially being treated as a missing person file, but evidence has led investigators to rule the case a homicide.''

Wow, this is vague?? None of this articles give me anything to go on. A man is missing and the information given is so slim. I really wonder what led them to believe homicide. There are many missing persons cases out there I believe are probably deceased but they very rarely jump to the homicide conclusion without a very suspicious spouse or other shady character in the persons life.

I don’t know how to help with so little to go off of:( I will just keep the family in my thoughts <3
