I wonder why 5 years later. Maybe they received a tip, but sp much time has gone by.

Maybe the area was too wet, but dry conditions made the land more visible and easier to search. Hopefully tips have been and will be received!
imo, speculation.

Search and rescue teams and Cochrane RCMP have put in 644 hours in the last week, searching First Nations land west of Calgary for Sara Coates.
“Last week we attended our previous search areas to assess the region in light of the extremely dry weather this year,” Cochrane RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said in a statement. “We discovered a large amount of land that was previously covered in water was now dry and we wanted to ensure that we took full advantage of this.”

Sara Georgina Coates, 32, was last seen in the Stanley Park area on Thursday, August 2, 2012.

''Sara Coates, from Cochrane, Alta., was reported missing by her family in Aug. 2012.

The 32-year-old was last seen in the community of Stanley Park but her vehicle, a blue Chevrolet Astro minivan, was recovered in a remote area of the Stoney Nakoda First Nation about a year later.''

The last article I could find regarding her case was from we 2020.

''Sara Georgina Coates, 32, was last seen in the Stanley Park area around Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012.

She is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • 157 cm or 5’2” tall
  • 50 Kg or 110 lbs.
  • Long, red hair
  • Blue eyes
Police say she was also known by the nicknames “Meka” or “Meko” and has a small, homemade tattoo of a heart on her left knuckle.''
