DNA Solves
DNA Solves
DNA Solves
I wish there was a quick way to look over all the details again, but if I understand correctly, there might be a suspect with blue eyes and dark hair who may or may not have had an accomplice. Is there anyone else that might be a suspect, could that person have moved from Montreal and is there DNA of the perp/s?

I have searched, but have not found anything yet that indicates they have recovered any possible suspect DNA or if they have attempted to do so.

I also wondered if the evidence was preserved enough for them to attempt to lift fingerprints from the adhesive side of the tape. I believe I read some tape was found in her hair (sorry if I am wrong on that), and they believed it indicated she was gagged at one point. I believe advances have been made in retrieving fingerprints, to the point they can actually successfully lift prints from the adhesive side of tape.

(I hope this link is okay, if not I can delete.)

I know I've read many departments suffer from budgeting constraints, but I'm hoping they have attempted to take the measures necessary to recover any biological forensic evidence.

Family Has Waited More Then 30 Years For Answers

It was a happy, festive time.

Sharron Prior, a pretty, blonde 16-year-old, was looking forward to Easter Sunday. At 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 1975, she sat in her family’s home in the Pointe Saint-Charles section of Montreal, Canada, decorating Eastern eggs. Although her twin sisters had convinced themselves that they were too old for an Easter egg hunt, she was sure that the boys in the house – an 11-year-old brother and 4-year-old foster brother – would participate.

The rest of the day was unique only in that there was no foretelling of the violence that would tear at the family for the next three-and-a-half decades. A girlfriend stopped by to visit Sharron, and Sharron worried about whether the drizzle outside would damage her brown suede jacket. At 7:10 p.m., Sharron walked out the door to meet friends at Marina’s Pizzeria nearby.

“Goodbye, mom,” she called back into the house.

“Goodbye, Sharron,” her mother, Yvonne, replied. “Be careful.”

Sharron didn’t come home that night, or the night after. The family and police realized that she’d met with foul play. Neighbors searched the familiar streets that had suddenly become scary and unpredictable.

Four days later, her body was discovered in Longueuil, Quebec, on the other side of the bridge from Montreal. She’d been abducted, raped and murdered.

Her killer has never been found.

'We Still Need Your Help'

The primarily French-speaking Longueuil Police are still looking for answers. They’ve asked anyone present in Pointe Saint-Charles or the Longueuil area at the time to search their memories.

“Any small detail may be able to help us in this case,” said Constable Mark David. “It may be something that the person saw or heard at the time of the event. It may be a conversation that the person heard since the event happened. With modern technology, clues of the past may give us important answers.”

Yvonne theorizes that her daughter was the victim of a serial killer, noting that the year before, a 12-year-old was found mutilated and sexually molested in nearby Chateauguay. The family says that same night, a 23-year-old mother was attacked in Pointe Saint-Charles by a mustached, English-speaking man who tried to drag her off the street.

“You’re dead,” the victim claimed that her assailant boasted. “You’re not getting away from me. … I’ll cut you to pieces.”

“We have a description from that night, down to the jeans to the color of his eyes,” Yvonne said. “But, for all these years – nothing.”

Somebody Knows Something

Because of the murder, the other children in the Prior home grew up in an atmosphere laden with tragedy and mystery. Yvonne had the kids chaperoned to and from school to ensure that none suffered the same horrible fate as Sharron.

In 2004, Longueuil Police received a tip that Sharron might have been in a Porte Saint-Charles garage during her abduction. When investigators entered the building, they found blood stains. But none of the DNA matched Sharron’s.

“You can’t believe how bad it’s been,” Yvonne said. “For 36 years, it’s been up and down. Is it someone from the area? Is it someone I know? It’s haunting.”

At times, Yvonne imagines Sharron as a woman in her fifties.

“I’m 73 now,” Yvonne said. “I want this solved while I’m still alive. Somebody’s holding the answer. Sharron hasn’t been able to rest. I want my child to rest.”

Thanks for all the links! From your above link, this seems to be a bit of an update concerning rumours of a certain M.F.

Excellent eye. Thanks so much for pointing that out.

It appears they had the victim in the attempted abduction actually conduct a line-up with MF. I am still curious if they ever made a possible composite public from the attempted abduction, if she could not positively identify MF as her attempted abductor.

It appears the tests in Sharron's case with MF's DNA were inconclusive. That may indicate they have a possible DNA profile from the suspect(s) in her case? I certainly hope so.

Thank you for all the links dotr. I sincerely hope the family is able to finally get some answers.

Disregard this last post, it would not allow me to delete! :)

dotr:

I found this article extremely interesting. I tend to agree with "Joe's" theory of a single perpetrator. JMO.

Strange.
From the link above.

Sharronwas found in a field at Chemin du Lac and Guimond Boulevard by a beekeeper. The beekeeper supposedly lived nearby and kept hives in season besides the field. “He went to investigate when he heard that the gate leading into the field was open.” WHO told him that the gate was open? Why did they not just lock it for him? Was that person cleared as a suspect? Was the beekeeper cleared as a suspect?
The padlock was hanging on the gate but was not hooked. I’d like to see a photograph of that. Police found that the open Yale lock had been tampered with but there were no traces. Does this hint at someone who knows how to pick a lock or someone who had a duplicate key? There supposedly were 2 sets of keys. Who had keys and were they all cleared as suspects?

I would swear that this information pertain to a different case I read long ago. And it was determined former employees had access to the area. New about the lock and so forth. But If I remember correctly they knew that the padlock was unlocked/kept unlocked because they had worked there. Or something like that.

And thank-you to you both for supplying the links with visual information.

I wonder why anyone would leave a victim in a place that had a lock at all, why not just dump the body anywhere, why the beekeeping place?

I see that LE felt that spot was chosen because it would be unused location until bee- keeping returns in Spring. Does that mean the perp wanted Sharron to be found eventually... or was that location meaningful in anyway, ie. a place a school may go on a field trip?

I found this article where the beekeeper was mentioned. It mentions a friend had called him that morning, and he went to check out the area that evening.

I found the comments by the Profiler interesting. They also mentioned another case, that of 12-year-old Tammy Leaky in 1981. I do not know if the two cases are connected in any way. I haven't had a chance to reasearch her case much or see if there was another thread here on Websleuths as of yet.

That was great info! It explains ( to me at least) why that location might have been used .. because it is a spot known for dumping car parts ect. Interesting that the profiler in your link above, suggests that this might be the work ( I'd say destruction) of a serial killer, who may or may not be connected to another murdered girl from the neighbourhood.

I have not found too much about Tammy Leaky, ( the other unsolved case) although I was hoping for a WS thread, or news article - but no luck so far...
From comments in link within above link....
Also wondering if the PP with the odd tip about S.P. being the victim of alleged Irish gangster M.F. and a " Ritchie". Later on in that link, an " R.M" is mentioned and rumoured to be a club doorman and brother of a gangster bar owner..

Just found this link, maybe find the other Montreal case here.

I found this short article, from the 3/13/1981 edition of the Montreal Gazette : http://news.google.com/newspapers?i...FAAAAIBAJ&pg=5745,863768&dq=tammy-leaky&hl=en

It doesnt say much, other than that 12 year old Tammy was forced into a car by a man outside her home in Point St Charles. She was found dead in Dorval an hour later.

Thanks for that clip, I am surprised more info. is not available- I faintly recall that case though, I seem to remember something about a redhaired Englishman driving a red sportscar in the area at that time...

Thank you both so much for the links! I haven't been able to find much further on this as of yet.

I found this photo of Tammy Leaky on a website (in French) detailing other murders and disappearances in the area.

Just a few thoughts here:

Were locksmiths in the area ever looked into? That would have been my first thought, since only 2 people had a key. Locksmiths have master keys. Or ask the owners if they had ever lost a key or if they ever had other employees/relatives that watched the place when they went out of town?

Did they ever find out what kind of car left the tire marks? Or what kind of shoes made the footprints?

A great deal is made about footwear in the Sonia Varaschin case, relevant because it might be a key to the killer's occupation.
I wonder what occupation might a person wearing 3/4 sleeve shirt, size 17 might be?
I wonder if any new advances in DNA and collection of it, might find something inside the lock and key. What about the tape found.. duck tape was not as commonly used then as now...

Strange.

I did want to provide updated information on a physical description on where Sharron was located. On visiting the beautiful website the family has dedicated to her, a family member was kind enough to answer a few earlier questions I had. They also wanted to make a correction about the description of where Sharron was later found. I am unsure if they are comfortable with me copying and pasting the body of the message, so I'll just type it out. I am paraphrasing only slightly.

The newspaper reports from that time all reported Sharron was found in a field. There may have been a field in the back of where she was found, but she was actually found in a small alcove cut out in a wooded area along the highway. It was private property owned by the beekeeper. It was a small area, so if a vehicle drove into it, there were be no way to get out as trees would block it. The vehicle would have to back up to get back on the highway.

I hope that clarifies what the area looked like at that time. I also want to make it clear I am not associated with the family in any way and am not in contact with the family other than they were kind enough to answer a few of my questions. :)

I sincerely hope the family can get the answers they seek and deserve after 37 long years.
