IIRC, there was also a crossbow killing of a father, by the son, at Main Street Library a number of years back.

Not as rare as it ought to be, too easy to obtain??

Wondering if they ever found the hit man?

''Although the assailant is visible on surveillance video released by police, its usefulness is dubious. He’s wearing a wig, a hairnet, a baseball cap and the moustache may be fake. The contrasting shades — black, white, grey — provide no definitive evidence. “We’ve actually done tests in front of that exact camera,” says Kettles. “We’ve put white officers, brown officers, Black officers, and they all appear to be the same shade. We couldn’t even determine dark or light complexion.”

So they don’t know the race of the individual.

But who hires a hit man for the purpose of killing an ex? And how would they even go about finding one?

“That’s the question we’ve all been asking,” says Kettles. “I wouldn’t know who to approach for something like that. We can only draw our own conclusion. It’s not like you go on the Internet and look for an ad on Kijiji for a hit man
. Those are still things we’re looking into to pick up a trail as to how that may all have transpired. The reality is we don’t know whether he (allegedly) went through a third party who then reached out or whether he directly contacted this individual. That’s something we’ve been trying to determine for a while.”

'' I would think that whoever carried it out, we’re speculating whether this person decided to do that on their own or whether it was requested. That we honestly don’t know.”

''Police believe the assailant fled on foot to a dark-coloured pickup truck parked nearby.''

''An Ontario man hired a hitman to “take out” his ex-common law partner with a crossbow amid a bitter family court dispute that saw her seeking spousal support and a cut of the Mississauga home they shared, a Brampton prosecutor says.

In her closing arguments on Thursday, Crown attorney Keeley Holmes told court that Roger Jaggernauth had started concocting a plan to kill his estranged common-law spouse in the fall of 2018 and called a friend, with connections to a biker gang, to connect him with a hitman.

That friend’s testimony revealed Jaggernauth, “asked him if he knew someone who could take care of his ex, or take her out, or get rid of her,” the Crown stated in written submissions.''

''An increasingly possessive Jaggernauth started stalking his ex-partner and turned up uninvited to numerous locations, including an address where she was meeting with another man she had started seeing, Holmes said. By Oct. 10, 2018, Jaggernauth had taken out $90,000 in “untraceable money,” and investigators who searched his home also found evidence on his computer that he might have been keeping tabs on her with GPS tracking, the prosecutor said.''

''Jaggernauth sought to kill his estranged partner because he knew he would have to pay her about $350,000 back for her investment in the home, Woollcombe said in her decision.''

“The risk to Mr. Jaggernauth, that he would lose his most precious possession, made his situation dire and desperate,” the judge said.''

He knew he could not sell the home without paying her, and “had a clear and demonstrated motive.”

''Jaggernauth was also found guilty of counselling a former Satan’s Choice biker gang member to commit the murder.

At trial, the ex-biker testified about a conversation in which Jaggernauth asked if he knew anyone who could “take her out.” But the call didn’t work, and the biker testified he refused to help.''

''The shooter, who was never found, was described as white, tall and skinny.

The case is scheduled to return to court on June 23.

''A GTA man has been sentenced to more than 16 years in prison for orchestrating the “contract hit” that saw his ex-common law partner miraculously survive being shot with a crossbow by an assailant posing as a deliveryman.
Roger Jaggernauth, 53, was sentenced by Brampton Superior Court Justice Jennifer Woollcombe late last month after being found guilty of attempted murder and counselling to commit an indictable offence earlier this year.
The sentence was driven by aggravating factors including the “devastating and life-changing,” injuries suffered by the victim, Woollcombe said at Jaggernauth’s sentencing hearing.''

''When a first attempt to get an ex-biker gang member to help kill her failed, Jaggernauth pursued the alternative plan involving a hit man using a concealed crossbow.
The disguised shooter has never been identified; he was described by police as white, tall and skinny.''

''The trial also heard from a former Satan’s Choice biker gang member who testified Jaggernauth asked him if he knew anyone who could “take her out.”
The ex-biker refused to help.
In total, Jaggernauth was sentenced to 16-and-a-half years for attempted murder and six months for counselling to commit an indictable offence — the conversation with the ex-biker — to be served concurrently.

“This is a pattern that is tragically predictable,” said Sharon Mayne Devine, the CEO of Catholic Family Services Peel-Dufferin and the lead of the Safe Centre of Peel, which offers services to victims of domestic violence.
