Interesting. Not what I thought a lawyer would tell a suspect. I would've thought "don't say anything more until I get there". I wonder if that will be brought up by the defense as a way to make the confession inadmissible. Like, "Saratezky received improper counsel", or something.

Hard to say. I'm guessing that he's full of ****, as he does end up confessing. So the whole "I don't remember doing anything" is a crock. And all this talk of "God" doing it...he had books on serial killers. That tells me he had a fascination with this stuff. Why would God tell him to read serial killer books? I think he's malingering. The crimes also show a great deal of premeditation, which he contradicts with his feigned mental problems. I think this guy is calculating. Not crazy.

Don't know what to think at this point. I suppose it's possible his attorney tried to plea bargain with a NCR defense and did not succeed so this was taken to trial?

This article lists a different attorney for DS. It also indicates that he has been assessed for mental disorders and was found fit to stand trial. If he was assessed with a severe mental disorder that doctors for both sides agreed would classify him as NCR, I'd think there would have been a deal struck with regards to sending him to a mental facility rather than have him stand trial.

Which is probably why he's opted for a trial by jury.

I assume as soon as the accused and the lawyer have that engagement (i.e. the police filling her in then discussing the situation with the accused), that lawyer has been retained. Maybe I'm wrong.
