".... the team looks at the murder of Margaret Louise McWilliam, a 21-year-old who was sexually assaulted and killed in a Scarborough, Ont., park in 1987.

She had recently moved from a small town to the big city and her parents, Charlotte and Ivan, are haunted by her unsolved murder to this day.

Given the geography and date, the team has to rule out notorious rapists and murderers Paul Bernardo and Russell Williams, both living in the area at the time".

On a different note, LE hope to solve this 12 year old crime.

"The 54-year-old father had been brutally stabbed to death in his Georgetown, Ont., apartment at the Rosetta Street warehouse where he lived and worked. A cleaning lady made the discovery.

Brent Henttonen was just 12 when he learned his dad, his hero, was dead.

His mother and other relatives delivered the tragic news after he had returned from a bike ride.

"They gave me the news of what had happened to my dad, and my whole world just dropped, and I fell to the ground and cried."

His father, who owned and operated a scrap metal business, had been stabbed repeatedly with a kitchen knife.
Killing seems 'personal'

In a rare move, Ontario’s attorney general has ordered a Toronto lawyer to stand trial for the first-degree murder of his husband despite a judge finding there was not enough evidence to proceed.

Last month, Ontario Court Justice Shaun Nakatsuru tossed out the charge against Demitry Papasotiriou following a preliminary hearing and he was released from custody.

In the same 72-page decision Papasotiriou’s co-accused Michael Ivezic, described by police as a “co-conspirator” and “business associate,” was committed to trial for the first-degree murder of Allan Lanteigne.

Lanteigne, a 49-year-old accounting clerk at the University of Toronto, was found apparently beaten to death on March 3, 2011 in the entryway of the Ossington Ave. home he shared with Papasotiriou.

The Crown initially indicated it would appeal the decision but this week Attorney General Madeleine Meilleur took the unusual step of bringing what is known as a preferred indictment against Papasotiriou.

This bulletin pertains to break-ins, but am posting it here, for the definitions of " suspicious persons", handy in any event, imo.

http://torontopolice.on.ca/newsreleases/30539
rbbm.

"One of the most effective tools police have for fighting and preventing crime is you, the people of our community. You know who lives and works in your area and who doesn't appear to belong.

What makes a person a suspicious person?

- knocking on your door and asking for a random name or address

- walking slowly along the street appearing to case-out properties

- looking into cars and walking onto other people's property

What to do if you see a suspicious person?

- observe the person's movements and direction of travel

- obtain the best detailed description of the possible suspect(s)

- report suspicious people or vehicles on your street to the police

- if you witness a Break-and-Enter in progress, please call 9-1-1

How to increase your own personal and home security?

- if a stranger comes to your door, do not let him or her in. Always ask for identification

- make sure that your front door is clearly visible to pedestrian traffic

- lighting can be a great security measure. Consider installing lights controlled by timer or motion-detectors

- make certain that ladders, ropes or any other tool that would make it easier for someone to gain entry into your home, are locked securely away

If you see someone doing something you know is illegal or see an unauthorized person in a secure area, call police immedately. The sooner you call us, the sooner we can get to you and the better our chances of locating the person you saw."

Many thanks for that, dotr! :)

This will hopefully protect many people, and make them more aware of what is going on in their communities.

People who inhabit forums such as this are police buffs and aware of crime and related issues; we are maybe more observant and aware than other people would be.

This article encourages others not to "write off" suspicious activities in their surroundings so easily.

Let's capture a vicious .

A young guy working a wedding reception is trying to enforce the liquor rules and is attacked. The people at the wedding are uncooperative and are trying to protect the attacker.

Saw that on the news today, infuriating - the 14 year old just trying to do a job, probably very proud and excited to do it too, now his nose messed up for life!
Head butting poi's face is shown at 0:20, anyone recognize him?

I would imagine that this guy is known to police. This isn't a simple mistake one does when drunk.

Someone has to know who this is. I hope police look at the entire invite list for the wedding and interview everyone. I wish they hadn't blurred the faces of those people the suspect was talking to. They deserve to be outed, although the suspects face shows better when the others are obscured.

"Police seek assistance identifying man wanted for Aggravated Assault,
Weston Road and Rogers Road,
Update,
Security camera images and video now released"

http://www.citynews.ca/2014/12/09/woman-violently-robbed-sexually-assaulted-at-etobicoke-hotel/

"This lady is in the escort business, she was expecting a client, but in this case she truly was a victim,” Insp. Earl said.

Police said there have been four similar robberies at west-end hotels involving escorts who advertised their services, but this is the first time a sexual assault has been committed.

In all of the robberies a man pretends to be a client, and other men then burst in.

Police are trying to determine if the same suspects are responsible in all the cases. Insp. Earl added that other robberies outside of the GTA are also being probed and may be connected.

In this latest case the suspects are described as:

Male, white, 19-20, five foot seven.
3 black males, all 19-25, wearing dark clothing.

Insp. Earl said two black males were responsible for the sexual assault.

Police are currently scouring surveillance video, hoping to find suspect vehicles leaving the scene."

Two separate assaults in post up thread, should have made two posts.
More about the second post, concerning female escort who was viciously assaulted..

http://www.thestar.com/news/crime/2...ally_assaulted_robbed_in_etobicoke_hotel.html
"Police believe female escorts advertising on the website Backpage are being targeted for the string of robberies, in which a male poses as a client before a group of men join him to rob the victim. The first case, Earl said, happened on Oct. 25 in the city’s west end, but other similar robberies have also occurred in the GTA.
“This is the first time that we’ve had such an incident where a sexual assault took place during the robbery itself,” Earl said.
Earl said two of the male suspects sexually assaulted the woman. All three men were described as being between 19 and 25 years old".

I give up trying to look for the story on the minors who attempted to abduct the baby on Guildwood Pkwy.
I wanted to update the story, 14 yr is out on bail and has to stay with his grandfather is only allowed out to attend school and court. Must not have contact with co accused (who will appear in Court today) and stay away from non Rx drugs.

If some kind soul would direct me to the thread on this one, I would appreciate that.

Police hope new clue can crack Erin Gilmour, Susan Tice cold cases

CBC News Posted: Dec 17, 2014 8:18 PM ET"

"Until now, police had said Gilmour and Tice’s lives never crossed. But a tip received by police indicated both women frequented bars and restaurants in the Yorkville area, where they may have met their killer".

March 2014 Reader's Digest

http://www.readersdigest.ca/magazine/never-give-one-familys-hope-justice/

"Erin Glimour could stop traffic for the usual reasons. Tall, stylish and slender, with long waves of sun-streaked blond hair and fine, elegant features, she was, by all accounts, spectacular. Still more arresting was her personality: she was warm, funny, intelligent and kind. And on an ice-cold, wet and windy night in Toronto in December of 1983, an unknown assailant raped, bound and killed her. She died when a knife pierced her good heart.

The knife was never found.

What makes Erin’s murder so compelling after all this time? There are thousands of cold cases on file in Canada, dating back to 1956. But her father is David Gilmour, a well-known billionaire entrepreneur; her mother, a ballet dancer and legendary beauty. Erin, at 22, seemed destined to excel at fashion design and journalism, which she loved—at anything she chose to do.

Her case is cold, yet details of the murder continue to be resuscitated. In 2000, the DNA from the crime scene at her Hazelton Avenue apartment—where Erin lived alone—was matched to another homicide that took place the same year.

In August of 1983, Susan O’Hara Tice, a lovely, dark-haired 45-year-old mother of four who worked with disadvantaged children, was attacked and killed in her Grace Street house. A neighbour is said, according to Canadian crime writer Lee Mellor, to have heard her screams and done nothing."
