Police beef up patrols after 'unconfirmed, uncorroborated' info related to GTA - CityNews Toronto
"Although police have not revealed any more information, Premier Doug Ford said the province is “aware of the reported potential threat in the City of Toronto.”

“While the information is unsubstantiated, the Premier has been briefed by the provincial security advisor and is actively monitoring the situation.”

Several police officers were seen patrolling the area of Bremner Boulevard and Simcoe Street."

"Police spokesman Mark Pugash said that "as a result of this information, you will see an increased number of police officers throughout the city and specifically in the downtown core."

Pugash didn't reveal any more details about what police have learned.

CBC News reporters have already spotted a large police presence around the CN Tower and Rogers Centre area."

Toronto police responding to ‘unconfirmed, uncorroborated’ threat
"Updated 9 minutes ago
Toronto and York police are upping the number of officers stationed throughout the Greater Toronto Area Thursday in response to an unconfirmed threat.

A federal source has told the Globe the threat relates to the CN Tower and Canada’s Wonderland, two of the largest tourism attractions in the region. It is not clear where the information came from."
"The Globe and Mail has seen an increased police presence along Front Street downtown. Police cars are parked on multiple corners in the Entertainment District, and CBC reports a “large police presence” near the CN Tower. Constable Jenifferjit Sidhu said residents can expect to see an increased police presence throughout all municipalities in the GTA, not just the city of Toronto.

Grace Peacock, spokesperson with Canada’s Wonderland, confirmed that York Regional Police are onsite".

Wondering what sort of suspicious activity should one report?
If gangs seem to appear and beginning fighting or whatever they do before they shoot, that would be one kind of potential threat.
On the other hand, if someone leaves a bag or is lingering around a garbage can or revving up a car engine, or whatever, one might find that suspicious if the threat was terrorist in nature. Or, if a guy is dressed in army clothing, perhaps carrying something long, that too might be suspicious and suggestive of another kind of terror threat.
Complete speculation, hoping none of the above applies, glad LE are looking out for the community at large, imo. rbbm.
Police identify suspect wanted for first-degree murder in Queen Street shooting - CityNews Toronto
"York regional police sent out a release acknowledging the “uncorroborated information” and asked the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.

The potential threat comes at a busy time in downtown Toronto with tens of thousands in town for this weekend’s Honda Indy Toronto. The Foo Fighters are also performing a concert Thursday night at the Rogers Centre."

It seems the focus is more on the police presence than what people should be on the lookout for, so I'm thinking maybe it's another threat or report of a potential attack like the one in April. LE arrived on the scene quickly then but if it had been in a busier more congested area (or farther away like Wonderland) they wouldn't have been there as fast. Just a guess based on what I've read so far. It seems to be more of a "Don't freak out about all the cops" warning than anything else. JMO speculation.

BREAKING: A Toronto Police memo obtained by the Sun says police on Wednesday "received credible information regarding a potential vehicle ramming attack in the area of the CN Tower on Thursday, July 12th."

Quite frankly, if a person plans on a "ramming attack", no amount of officers standing around are going to prevent the driver from heading into a crowd of people unless the police are looking for a specific vehicle and are able to neutralize the driver before anything happens.

'Potential risk to public safety' prompts police to deploy more officers downtown

"A memo sent out to a some members of the Toronto Police Service instructed officers to be vigilant around the CN Tower due to unconfirmed and unsubstantiated threats regarding a potential ramming attack, a source confirmed to CTV News Toronto.

Police cruisers and bicycles were seen parked Thursday around a number of downtown landmarks, including the CN Tower, the Rogers Centre, Ripley’s Aquarium, Scotiabank Arena, and the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

"In a statement released by U-Haul on Thursday, Sebastien Reyes, the vice-president of communications for the company, said they were contacted by Ontario Provincial Police on July 11.

"U-Haul was one of many companies contacted by the Ontario Provincial Police on July 11 with a request to remain vigilant in reporting suspicious activity in the Toronto area," Reyes said. "As a result, and at the request of the police, U-Haul issued a reminder to our Ontario Team Members to continue being mindful of suspicious behavior and reiterated instructions on how to report such behavior to police."

Toronto police spokesperson Meaghan Grey would not confirm if the potential public safety risk involved a possible ramming attack and would also not say if the area near the CN Tower was mentioned as a specific target.

“We will not release any specific details of the information we have received,” Grey said, echoing Barksy's comments."

Mysterious threat that prompted cops to increase presence downtown was potential “vehicle ramming attack” in vicinity of CN Tower. Via @SunDoucette:

I wonder why Wonderland was mentioned early on as well.
How do LE get these tips? I’m glad they do but how?
Phew. I’m glad they figured it all out. Scary!

Ive been wondering that too.

One guess I had was maybe they have sofisticated phone and internet monitoring software that intercepts communication and can flag ones that have direct threats.

Or maybe someone he knew tipped off LE.
