'A Toronto police officer is in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after he was shot while investigating a stopped vehicle on Wednesday.

The shooting happened at about 5:30 p.m. near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue and the officer was rushed to hospital, Toronto police said.

The suspect believed to be the shooter was arrested on Wednesday evening, police said after 10 p.m. Two other suspects were arrested earlier.;

Cop in hospital after being shot in midtown Toronto; shooter in custody

Three suspects are now in custody, including the person who police say shot and injured an officer during a robbery investigation in midtown Toronto on Wednesday afternoon.

''Speaking to reporters at the hospital, Toronto police chief Myron Demkiw said the officer was shot in the abdomen, and his injuries are not life-threatening.

"He's here in the hospital surrounded by colleagues and family, being supported during what is obviously a difficult and challenging time," Demkiw said.

"I'm relieved to say that he's doing well."

''The OPP spotted a black Honda Civic fitting the description of the one believed to be carrying the alleged shooter, and they engaged a pursuit.
“They rammed him,” said a police source.
Then they arrested the 21-year-old and one other occupant in the car. They were taken into custody. In total three suspects have been arrested in connection with the 5:30 p.m. shooting on Lillian Street, in the Yonge and Eglinton area.
