Vancouver police investigating after two bodies wash up on two different beaches

The VPD were called out to two different beaches on English Bay.

'On Sunday, July 21, around 10 a.m. the body of one woman was discovered at Sunset Beach, according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).'

''A second body, also an unidentified woman, was discovered around 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 22 on the shoreline near the Kitsilano Yacht Club, according to police.

In both cases the cause of death has not been determined.

Police investigators are currently trying to determine if the two deaths are connected. Police are in Kitsilano still, collecting evidence, according to a press release.''

Vancouver police investigate woman's body found at Sunset Beach

One day after a woman's body was found on Vancouver's Sunset Beach, investigators say they still have more questions than answers.

“We’ve checked previous missing persons reports to determine whether or not anybody matching the description of the woman had been previously reported missing. We know she had some tattoos. So, we’ve looked at the tattoos in our database to determine whether or not she may have previously been reported missing. At this point, we don’t know who she is. And her cause of death has not been determined,” said Addison.

He says she appears to be a Black woman in her 20s or 30s, but those facts are unconfirmed. Distinctive markings, scars, and tattoos, Addison says, will help police find and notify the woman’s family to advance the investigation.

He adds police do not have reason to believe her death was the result of a crime, but the BC Coroners Service is still determining the cause.''

''Vancouver – Vancouver Police have identified two women found deceased on beaches around English Bay this week. Police do not believe their deaths are connected.

“We now know the names of these women and we have informed their families of their tragic deaths,” says Sergeant Steve Addison. “While we continue to investigate both cases, we are confident these deaths are not connected.
Vancouver Police initiated an investigation Sunday morning, when the body of a woman was discovered on the shoreline at Sunset Beach around 10 a.m. A second investigation was initiated Monday afternoon, when a second deceased woman was found on the beach near the Kitsilano Yacht Club.

Earlier today, investigators from VPD’s Major Crime Section positively identified the woman found on Sunset Beach. The cause of her death remains unknown, and police are not releasing her name at this time.

This evening, investigators confirmed the identity of the woman found near Kits Beach on Monday. Out of respect for her, her family, friends, and loved ones, police will not be sharing additional information about her identity or how she died, however criminality is not suspected.

“These deaths have shocked and unsettled the community, and they have led to many questions that we are now beginning to answer,” adds Sergeant Addison. “These investigations are our highest priority and they will continue until we have every answer we need.”
