Claude the leaf thief is back for more and it seems there is no stopping this brazen koala — now stealing his booty in broad daylight.

The repeat offender only targets one location, but this animal knows what he wants and nothing deters him from the sweet treat of young eucalyptus seedlings at Eastern Forest Nursery at South Gundurimba on the north coast of NSW

To make matters worse the seedlings are intended to build corridors of eucalyptus trees to feed hungry Koalas.

Claude, you are why we can't have nice things. You're ruining it for everybody.

Further down the article, the nursery owner says he feels sorry for Claude, and the other Koalas he brings along as there is just not enough food around for the Koala population.

He said he knows they are eating the plants because they're hungry.

Yeah, if there wasn't absolutely massive deforestation, they wouldn't need to raid a nursery. I doubt the seedlings have much nutritional value.

Koala Claude inspires tree planting after eating $6,000 of seedlings

Claude the koala made headlines around the world last September when he was caught red handed munching his way through $6,000 worth of seedlings.

But there has been a happy outcome from the very hungry marsupial's thefts at the Eastern Forest Nursery near Lismore, in northern NSW, with new trees being planted after his rampage.

He's just gonna eat those ones too  (said with humor).

It's actually a sad story when you are aware of their habitat being destroyed. More power to Claude for meeting his own needs though... I hope someone hooks him up with some snacks in the meantime!

It's such a problem that koalas will only eat fresh leaves from a few species

It's really hard to find a constant supply in captivity and we have made such a mess of their habitat in the wild

Biology lesson du jour: Eucalyptus leaves are the main, if not sole, food of koalas. They are so difficult to digest that baby koalas, when they start to wean, have to eat some of their mother's feces to get the proper bacteria needed to obtain nourishment from those leaves.

True. In my lifetime, a lot of what was projected is coming true

But have you seen Claude? He's quite chunky :) The articles state that Claude allegedly brought his friends along to show them where the food is. I hope they eat all the leaves and get chubby!

Yes, they are actually usually only eating from particular trees in an area, so when many are destroyed it’s a serious problem for them.
