Question: When did SP first suggest that the missing Steven K could be linked to Susan?

It seems SK left Utah and drove to NV. On December 12th, he is said to have bought gas and snacks in Mesquite, NV.

On December 13th (a Sunday), SK, or someone of the same basic weight and height, parked his car in a residential neighborhood and just casually walked away from the vehicle. He was seen wearing a dress shirt and carrying a folder. A video image of him was found on a neighbors home security system. (Could this have been SP and not Steven K?) Could SK, a Mormon, have somehow met SP online and agreed to meet him in the Mesquite area...then after doing something to SK, SP took his car, abandoned it in that neighborhood?

I don't think we necessarily need to check campgrounds. Camping would not require an actual campground. To the boys, camping simply would mean being outside. I'm afraid that the possibilities of where they were is much larger than the campgrounds in the area. Those places would create a risk of a witness coming around.

This is an interesting possibility. At one time, I followed the SK threads and they seemed to get sketchy around the time that JP would have been driving around in the rental car - but if I remember correctly, SK did talk on the phone with friends AFTER Susan went missing.

The primary reasons why I still think there could be a connection are that he was driving that area - Ely to Wendover to Utah - around the time that JP says he was in the area. I've always thought it was possible that he saw something odd that JP had to explain away, or SK offered to help fix a flat, or they had a conversation. Later, he was killed to get rid of a loose end and potential witness - even though he might not have known that he witnessed anything.

An alternative is that he might have been an easy mark, someone to make it seem as though Susan had run off with someone. Or he might have been a body - same age and similar coloring as JP - if JP had been considering disappearing with the boys with a "murder-suicide" killing.

The thing I can't shake about SK is that he was interested in music and wanted to get a music career going - very much like SP. I have always thought this is the one thing that could lure him from church duties on a Sunday morning, yet not be imperative (he offered to come back to St. George to the church if he was needed), like a job interview. He needed money badly too. What is SP connected with him somehow over Craigslist or a chance meeting with JP or other Mormon networks (with SP pretending to be Mormon), and lured him somewhere with promises of introducing him to music contacts?

Also, there were three suicides by fire in cars of young men in Utah around this time, but I do not have the dates off-hand. Very odd given their rarity. Was someone trying to lure one to do a hit, and then killing them if they refused?

But he could have been stalked and preyed upon because of his height, weight, coloring and Mormon background. I would be curious to read more about those three other cases of men burning in their cars. I think they might have been looking for a scapegoat.

The claim is that is was a real estate agent who is not connected to his disappearance.

I actually thought jp's burnt body could have been SK's. Since it is my understanding that dental records id'd jp's body that's out. Very bizarre and I do wonder if there could be a connection. Did jp know neither would be found again?

IIRC The family of Steven Koecher has ruled out any connection between his case and Susan Cox powell's case.

I have to admit that when I first heard the story that Susan was probably having an affair and ran off with SK, I thought to myself that I would bet when they do find Susan, she would probably be found with SK and that the scene would be staged to look like a murder/suicide.

That was way back when she first disappeared.

I have often thought and posted a few times about the possibility that in the last 2 years, SP and JP may have moved Susan to a "close-by" location. The picture of the boys on the "mound" of dirt planting flowers has always given me the willies. I asked someone close to the case if SP's yard was ever checked with dogs, and the answer was no.

IIRC, a neighbor reported that the yard work was done the summer after Susan went missing. Isn't is possible that she is literally closer than anyone realizes? I should say, closer than LE realizes. It is funny to me how "regular" people here and elsewhere knew that Josh was dangerous, but LE said that they were surprised by the murder-suicide. Would it surprise LE to find Susan's body close to SP? Would it surprise them that people here would not be surprised?

About the flowers: Were they yellow? I looked very closely at that Mother's Day drawing that one of the boys held for a news photo. The yellow flowers definitely had roots...very elaborate roots for a little five year old to draw. IMO. And, when looked at closely, they appear to wrap around a lying down stick figure...the kind kids draw for the word game hangman.

I really don't see anything strange about the drawing. Maybe the child helped weed the garden and saw the roots of the weeds. Maybe he grew a potato plant in the windowsill...my kids had one and also sprouted seeds in a Dixie cup and they saw the roots of the plant when we transplanted the plant.

I don't find just the roots alone to be strange. I'm really neither here nor there on the fact that there are roots. I do not think that printing was done by Charlie. Go to any kindergarten or first grade room around and you will not see printing that looks like that. That being said, I feel this is a picture that an adult at the very least manipulated to make it look like it was done by a child. Now because of that I don't trust the roots or anything else on the picture.

Yes, and what religion was SK? Was it one of the ones that SP and JP loathed? I wouldn't put it past SP or JP to kill one more person so they could make up their story.

Wow, you guys all may be onto something. At least something that needs to be looked into. I think they should take a dog into that backyard. They say the best place to hide something is in plain site. Once they realized the mines were being checked........'hey, no one would think we'd put the body in the backyard'..... SP was weird wanting everyone so close to him (and he included Susan in that I'll bet), that you may be onto something.

Veerly a little off, but I thought it very odd that JP kept Susan's books with her name in them all locked up all those years. Did he keep anything else of hers? I don't think so. Why the books? Why did he keep her books....hmmmm

My guess about the books is that they were religion based books. He threw them out along with the Book of Mormon that belonged to him as a final middle finger gesture to the Mormon church. This is just an opinion as I have not read any titles of the books.

Considering that elsewhere, they just found the skeleton of a girl in the home of her rapist, in the crawl space, a home inhabited by other people, in an ordinary neighborhood, it certainly seems like all the homes and yards should be checked.

And then there is Ward Weaver who put one of the girls he raped and murdered under a cement slab in his backyard. The second girl he hid in a shed. She had previously been stored in his locked chest freezer. This happened a few years ago here in Oregon and was big news all over the Pacific Northwest. I'm sure SP heard all about it.
