CO- Briena Louise Karlik, 34, & her dog, Ida, violently assaulted inside her camper, both in critical condition, TELLER COUNTY, 7 Aug. 2024

I don't see any connection to Katie's case. Katie and dog were attacked in a central park in a large city...a public space. Briena and her dog were attacked inside a camper van in a small town of less than 1200 people, far away from Atlanta. Of course stranger things have happened!

It’s hard to know at this point. We need to know what her injuries are and how how her injuries were sustained. Katie’s killer could easily have scope out a new location. And, the attack doesn’t need to be in a public place or the same size city. But the attack happening to a woman and her dog at about 12:30 am are enough to make you wonder. What’s important are the type of injuries and what the killer used. Also, that area around Cripple Creek can swell to 22000 people. It’s a big resort area not far from Colorado Springs.

Hope Briena continues to recover from her injuries and TCSO was able to find evidence to solve this horrific crime.

In October 2023, her Facebook page says she was working as a porter at Colorado Grande Casino. There's also a picture of her camper.

Not saying they are absolutely connected. Just saying it’s worth knowing more and keeping an open mind. Hope Briena is going to recover.

I hope police are not holding back as well. This practice of police not making public information about these horrific crimes seems so counter productive, imho.

I agree. Is it the police holding back information or the media? The media drives interest in some cases, and others, the media buries.

Has anyone seen any mention of exactly where Briena's camper was? I've seen 'outside of Cripple Creek'. Wouldn't you think that LE would want to know if anyone saw activity anywhere around that immediate area?

My heart goes out to Briena, her family, and oh my world, the brave Ida... who might never see her human again. Imagine being in your safe space, with a dog, and having to withstand this brutal attack.

Definitely. Society isn't safe with someone like this at large. I wonder if LEO thinks it is someone known to her? Creepy. 99.9% of the time you can hang out camping with your dog and be perfectly safe. I hate that outlier, 01%...

Since it was brutal, chances are there is blood from the attacker on the victim or her dog and LE has DNA IMO. Also, neither were killed which tells me that the attacker had to leave, IMO.

Or, her attacker thought she was dead. It could also be that once Ida was injured she hid somewhere in the camper. I do hope there is useful forensic evidence in the camper or on Ida. Horrific.

It's interesting, but I would have to hear more details to see if it's related. What I would be looking for is how sophisticated the attack was. Were there signs of unforced entry for one. Were the injuries really extreme and calculated. The Katie Janness case was a very sophisticated and bold attack. I would need more details to see if they share those elements.

Would the perp have had to have driven to her camper or could they have walked from a house nearby? Were there any strange vehicles in the area that evening?

Did Briena get along with her neighbors?

And what did Briena do earlier that day? Did she work? Did she go out somewhere?

Where did Ida typically sleep? With Briena in her bed? In another part of the camper? Outside?

So many questions.

Zooming in further, I believe I even found the location of where her RV was parked. Yellow arrows in the pictures below are where I believe the RV was parked, the green arrows are for reference of a storage facility just south of the RV park. You'll see why I mention this storage facility next



Now, if you compare this picture that @Knox posted up thread with the street view, you'll see the building behind her RV is the same color and has the same signage as the street view of this storage facility.

So, if I am correct, the RV was at the southernmost part of the RV Park, furthest from the office.

Very welcome. I've always been interested in maps and can spend hours looking around on Google maps.

Keep in mind though, those street view pictures are from last December (2023) so, there may not have been that many, if any, RVs around her's. But, the picture that Knox posted from Briena's FB page does show one RV right next to her's...BUT, do we know when she (Briena) took/posted that picture????

The way I read the news articles, it seems her camper van was outside Cripple Creek, not in Cripple Creek. Here is a link to a Denver 7 News Story that indicates she was in Teller County but in the unincorporated area of Cripple Creek. My understanding is that is why Teller Co Sheriff's Office received the 911 call and first responded. Cripple Creek police were called in by TCSO to assist. I'm not sure when that picture of her camper van was taken and it may have been in Cripple Creek when it was taken. But, IMHO, her van was outside the city when she was attacked.
