The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) is investigating the death of a child after remains were found in a storage unit 1/10/24.
According to the PPD, officers responded to a call for suspicious activity at a storage facility on January 10 in the 1600 block of W 6th Street. A person had reported locating a metal container in Kings Storage Center in a storage unit that was filled with hardened concrete. When the container was unsealed, the remains of a child were found inside. The PPD said they are investigating this as a homicide & have interviewed two people of interest in the case. The owner of the Storage Center further explained that the two former customers, who are Pueblo residents, did not come to make the final payment before closing out, but rather a relative did. It was after that, where employees took photos of the unit & gave the customers 48 hours to address the items inside the unit. It was there a family member of those customers who came to clear out those items, found that metal container filled with concrete. That's when Pueblo Police were called on 1/10/24.
2/2/24 Update: Investigators are piecing together the few clues they have & seeing if the child’s death is linked to other children who reportedly haven’t been seen in years. After further investigation of the container, police say it was unsealed & the remains of a child were found inside. “We need to have the coroner identify those remains. Tell us who they are & maybe possibly the manner of death,” said Franklyn Ortega with the Pueblo Police Department. In addition to investigating the death of that child, police say they are also now searching for two other children: Jesus & Yesenia Dominguez. Officials say two people of interest have been interviewed.
2/15/24 Update: The Pueblo Police Dept. has arrested a woman & identified a second wanted suspect after the bodies of two missing Colorado children were identified — one found encased in concrete in a Pueblo storage unit & another found in a suitcase in the trunk of a scrapped car. According to Pueblo police, 35-year-old Jesus Dominguez & 36-year-old Corena Rose Minjarez were interviewed in late January as persons of interest. During the investigation, a car belonging to Minjarez was found at a local scrap yard. On Feb. 6, police executed a search warrant on the car & found a suitcase in the trunk. Inside the suitcase were the remains of a boy. On Thursday, police received DNA confirmation that the children’s remains found in the metal container belonged to Yesenia Dominguez & the remains found in the suitcase belonged to Jesus Dominguez Jr. Minjarez was arrested shortly after the warrant was issued & is being held at the Pueblo County Detention Center on a $2 million bond. Police have been unable to locate Jesus Dominguez & anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the Pueblo Police Dept. Minjarez & Dominguez, each for two counts of first-degree murder & two counts of abuse of a corpse. Dominguez faces an additional charge of theft of government benefits.
2/16/24 Update: Minjarez is set for first appearance on 2/21/24 @ 9am & for Dominguez' appearance of Counsel on 2/21/24 @ 8:30am.
