Dylan was picked up Sunday by his father at Durango-La Plata County Airport, his mother said on Friday.
Dylan announced his arrival in a text message and ended it with an emoticon expressing a scowl, she said.
Mrs. Redwine added that the boy's father rarely exercises his right to see his own son.

BBM. Just a thought, but if the mother was recently awarded sole custody, the father would have likely been ordered to pay some kind of child support that he was NOT having to pay when they had joint custody. I wonder what the father's financial situation is like -- especially given that he was running four hours' worth of errands on a Monday morning.

Could this have been premeditated? Could the father have invited Dylan for a rare visit because he was angry about having to pay child support?

Honestly, kids hitchhiking in the area still goes on. We *stupidly* did it as kids there when I was growing up, however 99% of the time you got picked up by a neighbor or someone you knew. There's still a very safe, small town mentality in this area. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot of kids doing it still and that's how they know.
The only thing I don't get and that's worrisome to me is if he DID hitch into Bayfield, there's a very very good chance whomever picked him up, knew him, knew Of him, or got his name when they did pick him up. Why haven't they come around? Either it wasn't a good person or he never got a ride to begin with obviously.

If things went south so to speak and something bad happened. There's really no end to places to get rid of a body up there, especially depending on how bad you possibly wanted to hide it.

Exactly. Might be a sinister reason Dylan never made it to his friends on Sunday. Who was the last independent person to see him and when?

I even think the surveillance videos at the airport should be reviewed...

who really picked him up...

what was the demeanor of Dylan and dad... Or whoever...

Where did they head to after the airport...

Etc.

Thanks IHAVENOCLUE. :)
I signed up during the Jessica Ridgeway case since that happened right here near me in Denver as well. Was surprised to hear about Dylan though, right in my hometown. =(
I know things in areas change, but I just wanted to give some insight to the fact it is a small area and for the most part, everyone still trusts one another there. It's not like being here in Denver now, as an adult. Totally different world usually down there.

Hello again, AspenSong, I remember seeing you on the JR thread. I'm also from Colorado so these cases of missing children from Colorado get to me too. Hopefully we'll have a much better outcome on Dylan!

Hi, I'm kind of new still. Followed JRs case closely. I'm affraid this case is starting to not add up. Does anyone know what is necessary for the FBI to be involved? I hope he is found!

Welcome, Paint! :wagon:

Good question regarding FBI.. I know that they become involved usually when the case crosses state lines... And/ or if there is an abduction...

But please correct me, Sleuthers, if I am wrong...

and please add any info you may have...

I am not familiar with all the LE aspects...

TIA:seeya:

also did mom actually speak to dylan after he arrived or did she only get that text? does anyone else live with dad? did anyone see him with his father?

I've been hugging my Dylan alot more than usual these past days. Each time I even see the name Dylan on facebook, MSM or here at WS, I just put myself in the shoes of another Dylan's mom.

I just looked up the address they gave for calling the Dad, and ya know...he's clear on the other side of the lake....most of the heavy tourists at this time of year have cleared out of Vallecito because you're between the fall colors and ski season. So mostly everyone up there is going to be residents, I really think if he got picked up anywhere before he got to the bigger, main highway to Bayfield, whomever picked him up probably would have come forward right away. Unless there's a crazy living up there - and hey, they're everywhere, that's really not at all anywhere near an area that someone would just be trolling for a kid to grab or anything like that. I'm sure if someone is involved it's not a total stranger. I surely hope it's not the Dad. =/

The conflicting statements on the clothing he was last seen wearing is concerning.

Initial report states specific clothing. Another report contradicts it, then a later report says the clothing he was last seen wearing is unknown. Did Dad actually see Dylan fully dressed at 7:30 am that morning or are the clothes mentioned in the initial report those that are missing ? Take the Blue Devil's hat for example: he had the hat when he arrived and now we can't find the hat in the house, so Dad says he must have been wearing the hat when he left that morning, or did Dad actually see him wearing the hat at 7:30am that morning.

The conflicting timelines of the morning events is also concerning.

Dad says he left at 7:30 am for a 4 hour shopping trip, then another 5 + hours elapses before the dad contacts LE. Dylan's friend expects his arrival at 6:30 am that same morning, 17 miles away. Dad was aware of this planned meeting because Dad contacted the friend the next afternoon looking for Dylan. If Dylan was fully dressed with his hat and shoes on at 7:30 am that morning (as initially reported by Dad), and he knew he was not going with Dad (Dad went shopping without Dylan), then why didn't Dylan contact his friend to tell him he was not coming (no cell phone / electronic trace after 8PM) ? Why didn't Dad just drop Dylan off at the friend's house that morning while out on the shopping trip ?

Taking this new information into account, one possible scenario is: Dylan left the house sometime after 8:00 PM Sunday night, this could include anytime during the night or the next morning before 11:00 am when Dad discovered Dylan missing. Dylan's destination being the friend's house. Perhaps Dylan and his Dad disagreed on his spending the day at the friend's house. This disagreement sufficiently motivated Dylan to leave the house on his own to go to his friend's house under his own power, (walk and hitchhike...). If Dylan left the house on his own intending to go to his friend's house and subsequently never arrived at his intended destination, then this is not a runaway, it's a disappearance.

The Dad's statements (assuming MSM is reporting them correctly) are not adding up.

I put myself in the lurkdom corner after following some pretty exhausting cases on here. Decided it was time to come out, this one so close to my back yard and all. Seems like there are things not adding up. I'm going to have to go do some reading that I know you amazing WSr's have been compiling!

There is a reporter from Channel 9 in Denver who is working Dylan's case. He is posting some interesting info on his facebook (his name is Kevin Torres if you want to follow him) about some searches by dogs and dive teams....

Hope this is ok since it is a local MSM reporter from Colorado...

Can you give us the link? I had trouble finding him.

Per Kevin Torres:
As of 10:30 AM search dogs were brought out onto the Lake and they found four locations where they picked up what appears to be human scent. the sheriff i spoke with, who Has been on the force for 34 years says that he has never had to deal with a situation like this involving a missing teen where they can't find any clues. New Mexico dive team is about to enter the lake within the next hour or two. 32 minutes ago

Keep in mind folks - it could be nothing. We should know more in a couple of hours. 13 minutes ago
