Don't they ask that if the case, they could sentence someone to death?

Well, someone was able to answer all the questions correctly, got on the jury, and couldn't vote for the death penalty. It probably has to do with how the questions were worded, or maybe they changed their mind during the trial.

Or they lied on the form to hopefully get picked for the jury.

Yes, and he cannot do this again. I hope he will just fade into the woodwork and we'll never hear his name again. There's a lot of angry people out there who were looking for the DP as many of us were. And I still wonder if JH gives a damm either way.

That is what is great about it. He is going to live in prison for another 50 years. By that time his parents will be gone. His sister might still be around but she will probably get tired of visiting him in prison after 50 years. His groupies will for sure be long gone. Chances are he will die alone and forgotten in prison. Sometimes infamous people die in prison and their deaths are never even reported, because the media has long since forgotten about them, and thats the way it should be.

Maybe, possibly, every prospective juror answered all questions honestly but this was before they had heard and seen any (or all) evidence in the trial, and some of that evidence convinced at least one of them that the death penalty was not the proper punishment in this case. I think that is quite possible and probably most likely.

Anyone In the courtroom. Lol. It's sold just like alcohol now. It's legal.

I'm not understanding why you are saying that has to do with anything?? Was anyone drinking in the courtroom? Neither are legal in the courtroom.

Then why hold him responsible at all? They found him guilty of 1st degree pre med murder! Why? If he's sooooooo mentally ill....why? They could have found him insane. They didn't.

As I said if you go back in history, these type of people were generally found not guilty by reason of insanity. Now days we send them to prison instead. Thats fine, but only a bare majority (56%) of people support the death penalty, and you factor in mental illness, there is not enough support for executing them. It's just not going to happen.

I have never heard that you have to be pro-death penalty to be on a jury.

In a death penalty case, the jurors wouldn't get on if they admitted they were against death penalty.

He got the mercy he never showed his victims. He deserved far worse.
Bless the true victims and their families.

I bet his parents will retire, if they haven't already, sell the SD house and move to CO to be closer to him for visits. I don't think Chris still lives at home.

Just wanted to say a few words- please feel free to scroll and roll...

Thank you Zoey and Maise and all those that helped with the tweets and updates for all these months. There were a lot of times I missed testimony because of work and had to fill in and update with your posts. And thank you Mods, especially today when things somehow seemed to get so personal in a room I had grown to know as informational and loving during this really hard time.

I have mostly kept quiet on here, but seeing things on the thread today about "that's why we don't travel to Colorado" and "they must be high," I just felt compelled to make some sort of note. Today was really, really hard. We are a really small and tight-knit community. Denver and it's suburbs are tiny compared to other metropolitan areas. It is really difficult to find someone who was not directly impacted by this or Columbine, myself included.

People here purposefully don't talk much about these events.. because, well, we don't want to be known for these types of things, and these killers do not represent us. The jurors were picked to represent us. Hearing people from long and far bash citizens of our state, on a jury they served so professionally and dutifully, makes me feel angry and sad. I fully support our jurors, our community, and I hope you all can at least have the respect to not bash those that represented us.

Colorado hearts will forever remember and be with the 12 lost, their families, all of the survivors, the first responders and the hundreds of others hurt by this crime. But I for one, will not persecute 12 more people for carrying out their constitutional duty under the law in making their decision today.

Tagging Rhino_Esq's post:

As well, I hope that ppl will find it in their hearts to respect the decisions made by all of the Jurors who devoted months of their lives to serving, including the 1 to 3 who did not vote for Death.

It almost seems as if some trial watchers were expecting the DP as a given with a death-qualified Jury. Such an expectation ignores the purpose of the trial altogether.

(It's late and I'm tired or else I would articulate these thoughts better...maybe tomorrow.)

Thanks to all who have supplied input, references, links and more.

Odds are, they are still going to die before he does. Then he will die alone in prison, and nobody will even remember him. Justice will be served eventually.

Actually he is remembered at every single theater shooting--sad state of affairs :(
