IIRC, there were two burner phones (at least). I think KK used the first one when she went to KB's with the coffee, introduced herself and gave her number to KB so they could arrange playdates.

IIRC, she tossed that phone on the way home - I think that was into a canyon in or near Breckenridge.
That seems very odd, to try to arrange a playdate and toss the phone when nothing came of the visit with the coffee. More than ever, it makes me think the coffee was poisoned.

Boy, I'd sure like to know what that item is that they still need to do consumptive testing on, and can't determine a procedure for. Something w/ a minuscule amount of blood, possibly, or what are people thinking?

I'm absolutely thrilled to see that DA May refuses to take the death penalty off the table, despite all of the CO legislatures recent moves toward doing away with it. The threat of the DP is a powerful bargaining chip with someone like PF who only cares about preserving his own hide. DA May will likely drag that decision out to the last possible minute, just to keep PF sweating. Good for him.

JMO.

Is this the same consumptive evidence that was deemed no longer critical to the case? IIRC.

And would the death penalty - even if not being carried out - put PF in far worse housing in prison? Such as solitary confinement 23 hrs a day? Thinking the threat of that may compel a plea bargain. Just reaching here..

Thank you everyone....keys and/or phone. One might not see these small items with a drone, but maybe one would get lucky. Also I don’t know if the air space in the canyon would be suitable for a drone BUT if the drone could take videos of the area and that video was enhanced there is a possibility of locating the items. Finding them may just be one more piece of evidence. (I know little of drones only had one encounter with a drone on land....adult bachelor peeping Toms tried to look in our windows and my dog knocked the drone down, caught the drone, and brought it to my husband!)

Hi, I’m just jumping in and haven’t seen the prior discussion but if this has to do with CO, drones and finding metal then I just wanted to weigh in that I know two different sources from other cases who have helped with drones here. Iirc there is also an article I posted a few years ago that talks about drones equipped with metal detectors (the instance I saw was related to trying to recover a weapon)...anyway not sure if this has anything to do with what you’re talking about, or if this post is relevant, but if so let me know if you need help further on pursuing this. If not, please disregard and forgive me for just jumping in.)

Oh wow...I wonder if LE is doing this search but just not saying a thing. Thanks so much.

She destroyed her phone, as well as Kelsey’s.

She threw Kelsey’s keys into the gorge, not a phone.

As the keys don’t really mean much, I don’t think there will be a search for them.

ETA: Don’t read anything into the tone of this post.

Oh I'd love for him to be in general population.

I'm all for the d.p but I also quite like the idea of solitary confinement for life. Infact if I was in his (or similar) shoes I'd be begging for the d.p instead of lwop in solitary so don't quite understand why it's used as a bargaining chip, I'd rather die, what's the point of that?

What was it KLK threw down a canyon? A phone? I searched and cannot find the report, here on WS or the media. I remember reading it was to dangerous for investigators to retrieve. Since repelling is ‘out’ could a drone be used for a search?

Thanks
2:23 p.m.

She threw the keys (presumably to Berreth’s townhome) into a gorge in Gooding, Idaho. Kenney told investigators about her route back to Twin Falls. It matches the phone records. She then burned Kelsey’s phone & a burner phone in her yard.

Live blog: Patrick Frazee appears in court for preliminary hearing

I remain hung up on thinking the item for consumptive testing is the black melted plastic ball/balls.

That isn't something I've ever seen in a murder case so coming up with a way to see if DNA is embedded would seem to require some thought and experimentation.

Have any of you heard of anything like this in a case?

MOO

Kelsey Berreth disappeared in 2018 leaving little trace until a December breakthrough. Utilizing that new information, News5's Sam Kraemer walks through what we now know.

Watching this it dawned on me again just how strong CB is.

The press conference was December 10th, she is visibly upset when she says “call us if you can”. She and KB’s brother had found the blood in KB’s condo on December 6th. CB knew KB could not call.

This just hit me harder watching the press conference again and knowing the timeline.

I’m not sure. I think there were several of those plastic pieces, and they probably have several attempts to test those.

I’ve been trying to figure out what it could be, and looking at previous court cases for guidance.

This comes up ALOT.

In a couple cases I looked up, it related to swabs of genetic material.

One included strands of hair.

It could be just about anything here.

I know. CB *knew* at the time of the PC on Dec. 10, that there was little to no chance that KB was alive. She persevered for the sake of her granddaughter. May God, Jesus, Allah, Buddha, and the Forces of the Universe bless her, little K , and the entire Berreth family for the rest of their days.

One thing I noticed from today's almost arraignment was that the defendant and his counsel were seated opposite the jury box. Interesting. In the two counties in which I have served as a juror, the defendant and counsel were seated opposite the judge on the left side of the courtroom and the DA and assistant DA were seated opposite the judge on the right side of the courtroom.

Swabs and single hairs are quite common, MG. They know how to do consumptive testing on those like falling off a log. I'm NOT saying you're wrong! It could very well be that's what it is! But when it was revealed that there was something consumptive to be analyzed and maybe it was just me, but I got the idea that it was something either so tiny or so difficult to analyze, they were even questioning exactly HOW to analyze it.
All I'm saying is we may have to think outside on this one. Did you detect that confusion or was it just me??? And it seemed Quantico was going to have to do this one???

If I recall correctly, KK threw one of her burner phones off a bridge in Breckenridge, CO-- during one of her earlier trips; threw keys collected from KB's home in a gorge/canyon near Gooding, ID; and burned KB's phone and another burner phone in yard fire in KK's backyard (disposing remnants at her workplace). I believe it was the keys investigators cited too dangerous to retrieve. MOO

I noticed that as well. However, I don't believe today setup the normal configuration of the courtroom but to accommodate the amount of media members present for the arraignment.

If they wanted to test a sample of blood found on a single hair it might be more complicated, though. Imo

Has anybody posted what happened right before the court hearing today that threatened live footage of the arraignment?

I think it caught everybody off guard since Colorado criminal courts usually consider granting expanded media coverage (EMC - camera and audio) only for advisements and arraignments.

ETA:

(3) Limitations on Expanded Media Coverage. Notwithstanding an authorization to conduct expanded media coverage of a proceeding, there shall be no: (A) Expanded media coverage of pretrial hearings in criminal cases, except advisements and arraignments; .....
