I contacted Law Enforcement at Peterson, explained the situation, and they transferred me to "Investigations". I spoke with a detective and explained the situation. I told him everything we knew about the person based on NamUS, I told him everything the Laughlin person had told me, that someone at Laughlin AFB had said the U.P. could be listed as AWOL/DESERTER due to the close proximity to their base.
This detective seemed very receptive and engaged. He said his supervisor would want to be the one to act on this information, so he asked me to send everything I had just told him, along with the link to the NamUS page, to both he and his supervisor. I sent the emails on Friday (last week) because thats when the supervisor would be back in the office. I have not heard anything back, but I don't necessarily expect to because I had indicated both on the phone and via email that there was no need to get back to me, as I serve in no official capacity, rather we just really wanted to bring this to their attention so that they could take a look at the NamUs case and determine if this U.P. is someone from their base/former soldier/former soldier stationed elsewhere. I also gave them the case numbers and contact info for the Pueblo Coroner and Pueblo Sheriff (also included on NamUs page).
You're a Star Sleuther @Gut_feeling! Great work. Even if nothing but ruleouts occur as a result, it's great progress.

I have been trying to look around some on this case and it's got me hooked. His height should make him stand out.

I'm wondering if this guy isn't local, if traveled to Colorado for some type of music festival sometime in 2022 before he was found. His clothes, hat, and the items that were found with him make me think he is into the scene. I'm also wondering if there are vendors at these music festivals and since the a place that sells the hat (their instagram is here:Grassroots_Chi instagram) and a place that sells the mushroom pin are both in Colorado, maybe they had booths at one of these festivals? I looked and there seems to have been a few of these festivals in the area.

MOO

Looking through NAmus now and found this guy. He seems too old (49), and was last seen in Columbia, MO. But the red shoes stood out to me, so I thought I'd post.

Jason NMN Washington, Male, Black / African American

MOO
The shoes are compelling, but 6 inches too short is too far off, in my opinion. Keep sleuthing, this one seems solvable!
ETA: What a sad story about this missing man Jason Washington. Eight children and wandered off after a seizure. Tragic.

I doubt that this is our unidentified man, but here’s a 6’5 - 6’6 tall missing man:

According to the article linked below, family members have submitted DNA, so I feel that the match would have already been made if EA and the subject of this
thread were one and the same. Still, I thought it’s worth a share.

Pretty sure that Eric is Hispanic, looking at the article. This Doe is listed as Black.

Also, it looks like Eric had pretty distinctive tattoos. This Doe only has one tattoo listed, on his tricep, though it was unclear what it was of, presumably because of postmortem changes.

Also, Eric went missing in November 2018. This Doe is estimated to have died in 2022.

It's hard when there are so few Does of this stature, but I think there are just too many differences for this Doe to be Eric. But that's just my opinion, and I'm just another amateur, so don't let it get you down! Keep sleuthing.

I probably should have noted the difference in race in my original post. EA is Hispanic/Latino. While this UID is listed as Black, decomposition was already too advanced for a weight estimate, and he was beyond recognition. Occasionally when a Doe is identified, race turns out to have been incorrect on NamUs, which is why that discrepancy didn’t deter me from sharing, especially considering advanced decomposition. I don’t know how much skin was left on the UID’s body, so I don’t know if the noted tricep tattoo had definitely been his only one.

Hypothetically, if one decided to walk away from one’s life in pursuit of a fresh start, I reckon it’s possible that one could still be missing 4 years after walking away, while also being deceased and unidentified for several months or more, partly due to an assumed identity used in the fresh start.

With all of that said, I double doubt that EA and this Doe are the same person, as I mentioned earlier. Since you shared your (sound) reasoning, I figured why not share some of my thought processes, too.

I believe that conversations such as these help to bring awareness to cases, if nothing else. Thanks for your respectful reply. I appreciate your encouragement.

I wondering how much we can rely on the height of 6'6"? I've come across a few all over the country. If they are run away, they could have been transient and traveled to CO. MOO

Austyn Eisom - 6'4"

Carl Howard - 6'4"

Demarion Thompson - 6'5" (he was mentioned up thread)
From the new-looking $100+ shoes & 2 pricey hats, if he's a transient, he's an unusually well-off one.

Also, if we cannot rely on race & height to be accurate in Namus and there is nothing from LE or in the media to help get clarification, we're just spinning our investigative wheels.

Does Namus take data from LE? If so, is there no verification done? I cannot in good faith continue using an unreliable database. I have a research background & the phrase GIGO comes to mind.

I'll keep watching the thread but I don't like to waste time that could be spent on more valuable avenues so I'm done with Namus.

JMO; YMMV

You're right, since we haven't found anything in the police blotter or newspaper archives thus far, NamUs is our only source. The Medical Examiner/Coroner's contact info is listed, should we try reaching out to them and ask them to at least verify the info listed on NamUs? They might not be able to tell us anything directly, but we can tell them what NamUs says and ask them "is this information correct"?

I hear you. I was just asking this because I have heard of height being a bit 'off' after we see someone has been identified, it may be hard to get an exact height for some reason. So I started searching for men over 6ft.

There are many other clues with this case, that is why I can't stop searching. The items and clothing, to me, suggest a 'hippie' vibe. This person could be choosing to be transient for the lifestyle. MOO

Unfortunately, I've seen many comments on other threads about how unreliable Namus is. Perhaps having an account gives more access to details, photos, etc.?

I don't mind the disjointed writing in Namus & oddly/poorly written narrative attempts but incorrect basic demo info makes searching pointless IMO.

I wish all you tenacious searchers well!

I hope this man is identified before his case gets cold. The lack of LE & media info is sad.

IMO, it's not so much a NamUs problem as an anthropological one. Forensic anthropology is a great tool, but it's not foolproof. From my understanding there are a lot of different reasons how/why skeletal remains can easily be incorrectly classified as another race, which we've seen time and time again with Julie Davis (white, not black), Janet Lee Lucas (white, not Asian), Choubi Gildawie (white, not black), and Stacey Boothe-Wilson (black, not white) - just to name a few recent ones. IMO from my understanding, DNA is the only surefire way to confirm Doe race & ethnicity.

All this info gets input into NamUs and that just leaves us to parse through it and use our best judgment...JMO

IF ALL the clues given were perfect, then we would be able to make matches much quicker. But the remains doi not always hold the exact measurements, or look like the race or description of the once living person. It is what it is.

In spite of that it is important to keep moving forward, imo. Every so often it works and families are reunited.

Yep, it will never all be perfect. The only thing we can do is keep trying.
