In their first pictures released by Colombia’s armed forces, a four-legged figure jumps from the page: Wilson, the Belgian shepherd dog who helped lead rescuers to their location – and who remains missing in the jungle.

One drawing, signed by Lesly – the 13-year-old credited with keeping her siblings alive through her knowledge of the jungle – shows Wilson between trees and a river. The second, signed by Soleiny, nine, shows the dog next to a large flower, the sun and the Colombian flag.

“According to what the children told us, we can confirm that Wilson, our commando, was with them, quite emaciated and without much to eat out there in the jungle,” Gen Pedro Sánchez, told press on Saturday. “But our faith remains intact and we are still looking for him.”

The dog remains missing and an operation to find him is ongoing.

''That night at camp, Manuel Ranoque, father of the two youngest children, reached for one of the most sacred rituals of Indigenous groups of the Amazon — yagé, a bitter tea made of plants native to the rainforest, more widely known as ayahuasca. For centuries, the hallucinogenic cocktail has been used as a cure for all ailments by people in Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Brazil.

Henry Guerrero, a volunteer who joined the search from the children’s home village near Araracuara, told The Associated Press his aunt prepared the yagé for the group. They believed it would induce visions that could lead them to the children.

“I told them, ‘There’s nothing to do here. We will not find them with the naked eye. The last resource is to take yagé,’” Guerrero, 56, said. “The trip really takes place in very special moments. It is something very spiritual.”

Ranoque sipped, and the men kept watch for a few hours. When the psychotropic effects passed, he told them it hadn’t worked.

Some searchers were ready to leave. But the next morning, 40 days after the crash, an elder reached for what little was left of the yagé and drank it. Some people take it to connect with themselves, cure illnesses or heal a broken heart. Elder José Rubio was convinced it would eventually help find the kids, Guerrero said.

Rubio dreamed for some time. He vomited, a common side effect.

This time, he said, it had worked. In his visions, he saw them. He told Guerrero: “We’ll find the children today.”

The father, Ranoque seems to have an exclusive with the Daily Mail, if you look at last articles.

Yagé is used by some indigenous communities, a bit to cleanse the soul and open up windows, it became trendy, people like Prince Harry and various others have tried it. Traditionally, it should only be done within the malocca for specific purposes, overseen by a shaman or capitán because it can lead to serious hallucinations, psychadelic episodes and violent vomiting. I understand the children have an independent lawyer representing them. Also ICBF (Children Protection Agency) plus OPIAC, the organisation for Indigenous People Rights has got involved in the custodial dispute.

EME amd IMO

Father has been accuseed of domestic violence

The rescue of the children has been complicated by the allegations of inter family sexual, physical abuse by Manuel Ronoque, father of the chidren, according to his wife Magdalena Mucutuy (..))

What a mess! Those poor kids! Found, but still lost!

OTIS: After leaving the crash site, she said, the kids ate juan soco, a fruit similar to passion fruit, and seeds known as milpeso, which are packed with oil and vitamins. They also found a box of food airdropped by the army. The baby was kept alive with water mixed with yucca flower, a bag of which they found on the airplane.

VENGOECHEA: (Non-English language spoken).

OTIS: Because they lacked a baby bottle, de Vengoechea says that Lesly Mucutuy, the 13-year-old girl who was the group's leader, used a leaf to drip the yucca mixture into the baby's mouth. The kids had a mosquito net and a plastic tarp on top of which they piled banana leaves to bunk down at night. Meanwhile, Indigenous volunteers - who knew the jungle better than the soldiers - joined the search. But even they found it tough going, says Alberto Acosta, a volunteer who spent 19 days in the jungle.

CNN —
Four young children found last month after surviving 40 days in the Amazon rainforest following an air crash have been released from hospital and are in good shape, according to Colombian authorities.

The four children, ages between 1 and 13, have been receiving treatment at Colombia’s Military Hospitalin Bogota since they were found on June 9.

They were released from the medical facility on Friday and are now staying at a shelter home, according to Astrid Garces, director of Colombian Children Welfare Agency ICBF, at a press briefing Friday.

The children are staying at one of the 188 shelters the agency runs across Colombia.

“Considering everything they went through, they are actually well,” Garces said.

“Their physical health is perfect, and in the hospital, they started receiving care from a team of psychologists and anthropologists,” he added.

**************
On Friday, the ICBF said it is expected to make a case in front of a family court to determine who will get legal custody over the four children, through a process known as “reinstatement of right.”

Their grandparents previously made an appeal to the children to be returned to them.

Both the father of the two youngest children, Manuel Ranoque, and the maternal grandparents have requested legal custody over them, and a family court will have to rule over their fate.

The ICBF did not comment further on the legal matter saying it is a private matter.

So custody hasn’t been decided?
And the dog is still missing ! I guess things take time as the rest of the hardship follows . Hopefully they can keep the kids together ,because big sister has proven herself very devoted to her siblings in the most extreme of cases so as long as they are together I think she will make sure they are looked after.

I wish those kids could get back with the grandmother who unknowingly prepared them for their unfortunate journey into the jungle!
