@Trino post and my responses within:

I expect more from our government.
The truth should be told. NO. There is not a vaccine. None will be available in the near future. We are not near to having one.

I think everyone who has been following is aware of this, are they not? Earliest the scientists have said is next year, AFTER the next winter season with this afaik.

When available, a vaccine should be available for all.

Probably, the countries will first roll out to areas which are having the most spread, which makes logical sense with a limited supply at first MOO

How dumb would it be to vaccine only part of the population and allow a virus to continue to spread?

See above. Create herd immunity perhaps is first step for vaccine in high impact areas? That to me makes logical sense.

What talk is this that some people may not be able to afford it? Can you imagine what panic this would cause?

Yes, that was a statement made during/after a speech imho which is "semi-political" as to who can afford. It's what has been discussed for folks that don't have insurance coverage in the US. I know for a fact that governments, including the US already have put it on their diagnosis numbers for insurance purposes. So insurance companies can cover such with a "negotiated "rate. The WHO said today that the vaccines that they are testing are $5.00 potentially negotiated iirc (someone correct me if I am wrong). This would fall under ObamaCare if so, and other insurance companies. What they are speaking to is the uninsured MOO. Which yes, is an issue. But time will tell if the governments all over will "eat the costs" due to economics and health to give herd immunity so that the financial and socilal burders don't get to where the flu is (I'll leave to others to look up and post what those are... we already know how it's being referenced as the standard, and think there is a reason for such.. it's tremendous the flu has on the world as such) MOO

Masks should be available for all. Rumor has it they are stockpiled.

Disagree, but there are many opinions on the thread, so I'll back off as each should take to their own. As WHO stated today, the masks we see in China were well before the outbreak. They do all the time due to cultural norms and pollution which don't exist elsewhere (why AFLAC became the company they are, but I digress). Wearing a flimsy mask, believe it or not, have been said by WHO and others not to prevent.

People should be told NOT to go to a clinic or hospital but each state, city, county should be telling people who are suspect where to report.

Agree! I did note on this thread that in mid-January, I learned that my insurance company now does virtual face to face real time options through an app for my chronic condition to refill stuff and for other conditions. I've used it twice (once for an allergic rxn that I needed immediate care, the other for a chronic condition that do to posts here told me to get more on hand in case supply issue) and it only cost $10 each time. And was done immediately vs. having to wait days or cost more with insurance to go to my normal doc or a doc in the box. I really do think that the major insurance companies are on this... they are perhaps lax in notifying all their members for this option. I've not gotten any information from my insurance to do such in a proactive manner, but I wish they would! Virtual docs, is fabulous and inexpensive.

Online and public posts should be out there with instructions how to pause the spread, what to avoid, how to continue if it's in your area.

WS was at the leading edge, I'm so glad we have each other as there is no other place to do what we are doing here as to sharing without bs, and I want to give a well deserved shout out to @Amonet for creating this thread, and @JerseyGirl for moderating this thread so well.

No. I am not depending on the government for all. I have insurance, masks, food, meds. However, everyone in our society is not educated about the virus and is not up-to-date or taking things seriously.

I don't have children, but I get the angst as to trying to let folks know, and they think (quoting others here as to what their friends said) that you are crazy, or henny penny etc. I've tried and failed at letting folks know since mid-Jan the stock market is gonna go down (I said get out NOW!) , you need to stock up on meds, etc etc. NOT ONE has given me credibility as to what might happen UNTIL it affects them personally... and then the calls or texts or FB messages come to me asking me questions.

I do hope my local area is in preparation... I think I might just now make a call or to to ask.

ETA: Just hit me that a family member is high up in a health insurance company... Texting family member right now to ask what they are doing, and if they are communicating and how with their members.

Thanks for all the updates folks. I have been popping in with too many posts to thank. This has gone from bad to worse. Common cold has been going around at work and I pray I don't get it. Had pneumonia early Jan. and it was brutal.

(Remember when you had pneumonia and I said in another thread, “wow, you’re the fifth person I know with pneumonia right now?” I hope I don’t see as many affiliations with CV. Man...)

Pope Francis falls ill day after supporting people with coronavirus | Metro News

I have asthma and do my best to avoid potential allergens and people who are coughing, sneezing, blowing their noses, etc. My allergy/asthma specialist told me years ago to wear a mask when flying, but I used to feel very conspicuous and didn't always comply with her request. On both of our flights for our annual winter cruise last month, DH and I donned our surgical masks and didn't give a hoot what our fellow passengers thought :D

I ordered a bunch yesterday. Prices have gone up as people are capitalizing on the panic. Hopefully I will actually get them. Otherwise I have my HomeDepot masks. They’re pretty heavy duty. I think they’re N95.

I haven't considered buying any masks but I'm definitely taking a trip to Costco this weekend to stock up on supplies. I was thinking if I had to self-quarantine what would I do, order pizza every night? (Which I know would break the rules!)

I wonder if our friends got out today for their South American Cruise. They were to leave yesterday for Toronto to fly out very early this a.m. Weather was horrible yesterday. Not sure they even made it to their Hotel unless they left very early yesterday.

Get some masks. At least that way you have some protection.

Same. I'm learning a lot more here than anywhere else.

I was already sick a lot this winter (and I don't get sick normally). But I ended up with bronchitis in November, a stomach virus (thanks to my 2 year old grandson who shared it with us) and then the flu a few days later, in late December. I presume none of these are involved in immunizing for this new virus but I wonder if it makes ones more prone to contracting it. Or contracting it seriously.

Thanks all for the amazing updates.

Me too. I never go anywhere without my travel hand sanitizer now, and I use it often. I don't think this is overreacting.
No your not at all. I think folks are going to be diligent moving forward to protect from regular viruses. I always stock up on the little hand bacs from Bath and Body. I even tuck them in with gifts thru out the year. They are not drying to the hands like some.

You can order 100 disposable gloves for a dollar from the dollar tree store.

Adding to your excellent list:

*Unless absolutely necessary, DO NOT use public restrooms.

*When possible, avoid hair/nail salons and/or spas where stylists/techs come in direct personal contact with clients.

*Carry disposable gloves to the supermarket and use them when selecting fresh produce. If you don't have surgical gloves, you can cover your hand/s with plastic produce bags that are available in most markets.

*While it doesn't replace frequent, thorough handwashing, carry small bottles of hand sanitizer in your purse and car.
