I do believe it is a state-by-state situation. An excellent example of a state which was not prepared for a disaster was Louisiana during Katrina and the state KNEW some of those levees were precarious at best. States which were not impacted jumped in to assist. Nebraska sent our national guard, utility trucks, volunteers and accepted evacuees, both people and pets. I anticipate similar sharing will be happening with this pandemic. So far, no one who has been isolated or hospitalized here has died. None are in the Med Center's ICU. I'm betting we will be sharing supplies if we are not already doing so. Omaha has two medical schools/teaching hospitals. The Universities should deploy those students and residents to relieve exhausted health care personnel.

One thing that IS happening here is that younger folks in their 20s and 30s aren't abiding the social separation and distance edicts. I wonder if too much emphasis has been placed on the risks to us old codgers and now younger people think their age gives them an invisible shield of immunity.

JMO

NO doubt in my mind Nebraska is prepared!!! They had the first biocontainment unit in the United States. These folks are top notch!!!!

Be proud you're in the Nebraskan!!!

Big Brother Germany has been filming and they just told them during a live episode about what is going on. I believe the only other time that Big Brother has shared information from the outside world was with the US cast after the 9/11 attacks.

Big Brother Germany's Contestants Just Learned About COVID-19

And that horrible time they told Jade Goody that she had cancer, live in the diary room. She had been in the British BB, but was doing a celebrity Indian version when it happened, iirc.

Good luck convincing them it's a real life situation, and not just more game "twists." IMO

Oh my gosh, yes. Hadn't thought about that!

Even the gyms are still open...at least my dad's is anyway because he is STILL GOING. Don't get me started on that. I fear that whole area is going to get a rude awakening in the next couple of weeks. So happy you got a full refund!
:eek::eek:
And why, oh why are they keeping Restaurants OPEN ???
*In Michigan- We have closed all restaurants except for drive thrus, all gyms, spas, financial institutions (except drive thru) etc.

Quote---2:40 p.m.: Florida closes all bars, limits beach access
All bars and nightclubs in Florida will close for the next 30 days, but unlike other states, Florida will keep restaurants open.

Florida restaurants must limit access to 50% capacity and stagger seating to keep customers at least 6 feet apart, according to an executive order issued by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The governor is directing residents to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance by limiting their gatherings to no more than 10 persons.

NJ Closing All Malls as State Now Has 267 Coronavirus Cases

What to Know

  • Cases of the new coronavirus in New Jersey have spiked in recent days.
  • As of Tuesday afternoon, there had been 267 people who tested positive for COVID-19 and three people who have died, New Jersey health officials said.
  • In an attempt to prevent interactions and slow the virus' spread, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy ordered all malls to be closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
New Jersey added 89 additional cases of the new coronavirus to its tally on Tuesday as the deadly virus continues to spread in the Garden State.

Gov. Phil Murphy announced a new total of 267 COVID-19 positive cases during a afternoon coronavirus briefing in Trenton alongside state health officials.

New Jersey has seen a big spike in cases as they have increased testing for COVID-19 in recent days. On Monday, the total jumped by 80 positive COVID-19 cases from the day prior.

Ok what I understand from this press conference for Oklahoma is this:

If your symptoms are mild your dr may tell you to manage at home and you may NEVER be tested unless you are in one of the high risk groups or work in a potential high transmission area.

——

So to me it means, if there is community spread, which there is here, you may never know the true extent of it because we can’t test you! Therefore our numbers, stats, trend, will never be accurate!

I’m seeing the same thing. A friend of my mom’s is mad that she didn’t go to her St. Patrick’s Day party. My 83 year old mother. This lady is much younger. And had been minimizing this virus last week. And she’s pretty educated and well informed typically so I don’t get it.

My ex’s roommate (who I went to law school with) is saying “to heck with it” but using a different word than heck, and has been going out to coffee shops and restaurants. He doesn’t even wash his hands when he comes in the house. I have told him several times how dangerous this is. He doesn’t seem to care.

It’s baffling.

Agreed. I'm seeing my high risk friends, one on blood thinners, one with an autoimmune out and about. I don't get it. This isn't about how tough one can be, but it's about life and death.

I had a frank conversation with two high risk people today. After reiterating the CDC guidelines, I told them both, when you pass, I want you to pass peacefully. Not suffering from a painful, debilitating illness like covid-19. I think they were surprised I was so blunt, but this is not a game.

Until we are on lock down like Italy there are going to be people who will just not stop their fast pace run, run, run, lifestyle. I'm working on accepting they are going to run until they are stopped by a brick wall.

Apparently they made it clear, showed news reports/articles, and had doctors and family members speak with them, but I agree...the nature of that game is "expect the unexpected" so I'm sure they are suspicious. I don't speak German so it's hard for me to get a full grasp of what they were told and their reactions to it.

I just read a recap of what is open/closed in that area and it makes me furious.

Florida-
Volusia County Authorities have decided to close down the beaches which includes
Daytona Beach.
per WFTV News

Hope the other counties get on board as the
Gov. decided not to.

I'm so disappointed with the governor's waffling at this point. He should have shut down the beaches already, yesterday, today for sure. I'm sorry for the tourists who are losing their vacation, but it's better than losing more lives.
