Speaking of mucking around...... The US Senate is going to vote on whether or not they will help out financially the American people and American Businesses, in a short while......Let us hope they do their jobs today to help the country out in this crisis......moo

Keep in mind that the debate is whether to increase aid with a viable plan to truly help the economy.

Symbolic gestures of all kinds are not really acceptable in this crisis (not talking about the bill as much as global response).

I want to tell you Henry how much I appreciate all you do for all of us during this terrifying time, and everyone who continues to update.

I haven't posted much, but I read this forum each, and every day. I was following it constantly then I realized I had to take breaks for it's emotionally draining.

Our area is in one hot mess. Phoebe Putney Hospital with the main hospital in Dougherty county is the only area hospital here. Through the years they have bought up all of the smaller hospitals in all surrounding areas. It has left them with a monopoly.

This hospital is rated very low...not only statewide, but nationwide as well. The federal, and state government have withheld funds, and fined them in the past few years demanding they improve their quality of care yet they continue to give unacceptable care. They have no incentive to be better as long as they monopolize the southwest Georgia area. :(

So thousands are at the mercy of one of the worst hospitals in the nation. The only care they do excel in is with the PPMHs cardiologists.

I had the unfortunate experience of being in PPMH for 8 days, and was released only 3 days before the first known coronavirus patient. I was released because my hubby, and family demanded the doctors get me out of there. It was a total nightmare causing me unnecessary physical, and emotional trauma.

Many local nurses, and doctors refuse to work there fulltime so they have to hire countless traveling nurses ...which are far better than the ones who are from the area who still work there.

Even though much smaller in population our area is one of the main hotspots in Georgia for this deadly virus. So much so the CDC epidemiologists have a team here.

I'm so worried about myself, family, dear friends and all citizens who live in this area.

I'm in the elderly group with underlying conditions as of now that happened out of the blue around March 1st. The last time I was at PPMH was 1987. Until the recent stay I've been very healthy for decades, but now I know my immune system is very low.

My hubby, and I have been isolating ourselves before the feds set the 15 day socially distancing into play.

However so many down here refuse to socially distance themselves. Thousands of young adults and teens went to the beaches in droves so now they will come back to infect more, and more.

Our county, Lee, has a curfew in place, and we are suppose to only be out between 6am until 10pm with our officials saying to only get out if its job related, or absolutely necessary to go to grocery stores or pharmacies. If all doesn't abide by it though it undoes everything everyone else is trying to do to protect themselves, and all others too.

My hubby has had to go out in the public, but hes trying to remain as safe as he possibly can.

God bless us all, and our nation.

Jmhoo

Praying for all of You!

Does anyone else have moments (sometimes a whole lot more than moments...) where they are completely swamped and overwhelmed by all of this? I can’t begin to comprehend how this will end. It scares me.
Yes, I had a bad sleepless night.

Worried about money. How much is my paycheck going to be reduced? What should I sell to tide me over if this is going to go on for 6 months or 12 months, or even 18 months ?

And then, what about my 401K. How long will I have to keep working?

My financial projections are just shot all to hell and I'm worried about the repercussions.

And this just assumes I can keep healthy, while still working, and not having the swimming pool or walking groups available that I had been using.

My country, and my fellow citizens are bleeding! With pain, illness, fear and isolation! Money of course. But our collected and voted fellow congress peeeps cannot get their s#%$ together to help us. So very saddened, additionally frightened as well.

If...we had had a plan, this would be different.

We need real help from our government and I'm sure they'll reach a compromise - I'm glad that some are considering giving more aid rather than cutting aid short, as it will be unlikely that we'll pass another bill soon. If they have to quarantine Senate, there will be a learning curve as they learn to use Zoom or get their own online tools for convening.

I had a week long freak out , the sky is falling, everyone is dead , and so on and so forth . It got pretty ugly I got off the couch and showered yesterday , so YES! right there with you!

Me too - all of the above, plus one unemployed child (who is now applying to be at the front lines of handing out food to children in this crisis - but I worry so much about her).

My financial projections just went out the window too. I have to stay away from checking on my mutual fund based retirement account (I have three accounts, all are affected, but a chunk was tied to the stock market). Plus, my employer is threatening to downgrade everyone's health policies and to go back on a promise made 30 years ago (when I took the job) to give health insurance after retirement. Looks like I'll keep working.

I think I can work from home indefinitely, but that makes me really anxious too - only some classes work online.

First thing of course is to cut ongoing cost and take advantage of programs in your state (if available) whereby you do not have to pay utilities. Renters should be up in arms.

The economic repercussions of our global lack of planning are going to be extraordinary. It's going to be hard to sell things, too, except by eBay and similar. I have no idea if there are going to be long lines at the post office and if this gets bad enough, the PO will close for a while too!

I think there has to be a committed plan for the little guy.

The hourly wage worker with kids who doesn't get healthcare benefits.

The working poor who were already working 2 jobs and couldn't be home to keep their kids out of trouble.

The people who were trying to get an education and work.

The seasonal workers who bring us our produce and keep farmers in business.

I'm very very worried that giant companies will get the majority of the funding.

There also really needs to be financial accountability

Another way to think about inviting cleaners into your home: They may be terrified of the risk as well, but also be afraid of losing customers once the danger had passed Also, if customers continue to use their services, it might send the message to them, their colleagues and families that "it's not really that risky." Imo

When I called ours, and told her we would pay her for March, April, and through May, if it lasts that long, she was full of gratitude. She called everyone else, who wants her to come, including three health care providers.

She is really trying to decide what to do.

Exactly. A one or two time check is not going to do it. Sweeping measures regarding government back-up of "the little guy" should include both pay-outs and zero percent loans. But that's not enough either. The government needs to guarantee 3 months of payment toward housing - otherwise we'll have homeless crisis on top of everything else.

Crime is already going up. The bills should have been done stepwise (and with the two branches cooperating - they used to). But hopefully the eventual bill will be slightly more "little guy" friendly, as that seems to be the goal of the dissenting Senators.

:(

"The number of confirmed or presumed cases of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador has more than doubled in the last 24 hours, with the province's chief medical officer of health announcing 15 new presumptive cases on Monday afternoon.

Dr. Janice Fitzgerald said Monday afternoon that of the new presumptive cases, one is in the Central Health region, while the remaining 14 are in the Eastern Health region. There are now 24 confirmed or presumptive cases in the province.

Fitzgerald said eight of the cases in the Eastern region are linked to a previous case, two are travel-related and all other cases are still under investigation. Public health officials have initiated contact tracing."

Mar 23, 2020 Prayers for This Little Guy!

Mom wants parents to take this seriously.

A 7-month-old in South Carolina has tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus.
Last Monday his fever reached 104 degrees
He's one of the youngest people in the country to test positive for the virus. His temperature spiked over 100 degrees and it's believed that the child caught the virus from his grandmother, who also tested positive despite not showing any symptoms. The baby's grandmother worked at a daycare center.

AND

Something has to be done about affordable healthcare. Most physician offices I know of around here have their own staff on Medicaid - because it at least pays decently for children's care and OB. But if you are an older adult not yet eligible for Medicare - ouch

OH I AGREE so completely with you on this.

We must keep people in their houses, their apartments, their condos.

I mean the working poor, the middle class. One or two measly payments of $1200 are not going to tide these people over for the next 3-4 months. There are car payments, food, utilities, car insurance, childrens' care. In the bay area, for example, that won't pay the rent. And teachers are out and not going to get paid until maybe September!

Wolf declares Stay at Home order in Greater Philadelphia area and Alleghegny county.
I am not sure how that changes anything, unless they are just telling us instead of asking us to not go out unless for food/rx.

Not the most comforting topic, but it needs to be addressed:

How will the massive number of deceased impact towns, counties, states and the nation?

We're not China or Iran (of course) but we share with them the same problem now. We only need to look at their experience (crematories running all day/mass Graves) to get a picture of what's to come... Imo
