''Medical professionals say social distancing needs to be stepped up, not relaxed, to slow the spread of infections. At the White House briefing, public health authorities said it was particularly important for people in the hard-hit New York City metropolitan area to quarantine themselves for 14 days and for those who have recently left the city to do the same.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government's top infectious disease expert, said pointedly at the briefing: "No one is going to want to tone down anything when you see what is going on in a place like New York City."

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has proposed that the Trump administration send thousands of ventilators to New York City — which needs 30,000 of them, he said — and demanded that Trump use wartime authority to force manufacturers to produce them.''

They can’t base the checks off of 2018 tax returns since many haven’t filed yet and the extension is until July 15. They have to use 2017 taxes I would think.
They have extended the tax deadline until July 15 for 2019 filings, if my memory is correct. For the stimulus, 2018 returns are what is being quoted in most (if quoted at all ) News articles....moo

CDC data showing nearly 40% of U.S. hospitalized #COVID19 patients are between ages 20 to 54 is consistent with experience in China which had similar rates of hospitalization across those ages. Younger Adults Make Up Big Portion of Coronavirus Hospitalizations in U.S.

The American #COVID19 epidemic will track younger because we have a FAR larger obese youth population -- the single medical cond that is most predictive of severe #conoravirus outcome is hypertension, which correlates often w/obesity.

Same thing I was thinking. Are these China figures really realistic?

Population of China is 1.38 Billion and their reported cases are: 81,218.

Population of U.S. is 327.17 Million and our reported cases are: 55,200.

Is something wrong here?
China ordered a strict lock down of the Wuhan. And when they locked down, they really locked down. I can assure you they weren't having coronavirus parties like some idiots in the US do.

Update #SouthKorea, where the news is good BUT...51 of their 100 new #Covid19 cases are IMPORTED. With an increasing number coming from US. They are imposing stricter quarantining and testing of all visitors. cCFR now 1.4%. US needs to do better, here, as well. (((Howard Forman))) on Twitter

Right. How long before these checks, get cut, go through the mail and reach us, hopefully on a day when your bank is open and 1000 of your neighbors are lined up to cash them?
If your bank has the cash on hand to dole out?
Tomorrow, go shopping for what you'll need for 45 days.
I am.
Do it.
But most grocery stores are basically empty except for non essential stuff and lines are wrapped around the parking lots and down the block to get in. Delivery is booked weeks out (and most of your order won’t get filled anyway), so how can we go stock up for 45 days right now? It’s impossible.
I’ve heard some of the restaurants around here are selling flour, butter, sugar etc. (I guess they can get from restaurant supply still) so I might try that. And I got eggs from a friend with chickens, so there’s that. :)

That has been happening here!
Live and learn, I guess. Wuhan has been locked down over 60 days haven't they?

I just listened to Sen. Schumer talk about what's in the financial bailout package. I'm glad to hear that much money is being directed to hospitals, small businesses, and those who have been laid off due to COVID19, but I didn't hear anything about direct payments to all Americans.

Does anyone know?

White House, senators strike deal on America’s biggest rescue package ever — $2 trillion in spending and tax breaks
''Direct Payments

For individuals the package provides direct payments to lower- and middle-income Americans of US$1,200 for each adult, as well as US$500 for each child. Unemployment insurance would be extended to four months, the benefits would be bolstered by US$600 weekly and eligibility would be expanded to cover more workers.

Democrats demanded and won a series of restraints on corporations that would benefit from loans or investments from the Treasury Department, as well as an oversight mechanism for who gets money.

Any company receiving a government loan would be subject to a ban on stock buybacks through the term of the loan plus one additional year. They also would have to limit executive bonuses and take steps to protect workers. The Treasury Department would have to disclose the terms of loans or other aid to companies and a new Treasury inspector general would oversee the lending program.

Notably, Democrats won language that would bar any business owned by Trump or his family from getting loans from Treasury. Businesses owned by members of Congress, heads of executive departments and Vice President Mike Pence also would be blocked.''

With the prospect that Congress was closing in on a deal Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose more than 11% in its biggest advance since 1933, and the S&P 500 rebounded with the biggest one-day gain since October 2008 after starting the week with a rout. In Asia markets, U.S. futures pared early losses after news of the deal.

I have great concerns about the mental health of our front-line healthcare practitioners.

PTSD is going to be very very real for many of them and they will really need relief and long rests
They've been hit hard in Ohio.

Healthcare workers comprise 16% of Ohio COVID-19 cases; hotels, dorms to soon be hospitals

Acton also revealed more statistics about the 564 cases. The age range of cases is from less than one year old to 95 years old. There are 145 hospitalizations and 62 in ICU. Healthcare workers comprise 16.1 percent of the total cases, 25.7 percent of the total statewide cases have been hospitalized and 11 percent have needed the ICU. There are 269 females (48 percent) and 295 males (52 percent).

It is an absolute disgrace nobody should be going to their work in a hospital and be forced to put their lives at risk. Doctors and nurses are going to die in both our countries just like what is happening in Italy.
Yesterday morning I thought I was going to take a break from making masks after this round because it’s all I’ve been doing for many days now and cutting the patterns gives me a back ache. Then mid-morning, a friend from the state I used to live in requested masks as well. I live on the border of two states now and have already been making masks for the nurses in both those states. But given the situation, how can I stop when nurses are begging for these?
