In CO we just aren’t ready. Our Governor lifted the ban on Realtors showing houses, and it’s specified that homes are disinfected between each showing plus Buyers agents are instructed to wipe all doorknobs, light fixtures and anything else that may have been touched. It’s also required we give prospective buyers masks and gloves prior to entering any home. But here’s the problem—there are no disinfecting wipes to be found. It’s actually easier to find masks, and that’s no picnic. An overwhelming majority of Colorado believes strong measures, like the closure of businesses, are needed to slow the spread of the coronavirus, a new poll finds.
The sentiment — shared by two-thirds of residents — appears to conflict with a push by Gov. Jared Polis to begin reopening Colorado starting today with curbside retail sales and nonemergency medical procedures. And it’s amplified by the 43% plurality who believe the worst of the pandemic is yet to come, compared to 35% who believe the worst is behind us.
The data “makes it clear that people don’t want to be rushed back to work until they can do it safely, without putting their loved ones and coworkers at risk,” said Jake Williams, the executive director at Healthier Colorado.
The question about how to balance public health concerns with the impact on the economy found that 64% agreed the state “should take measures aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus while more widespread testing becomes available — even if that means many businesses will have to stay closed.” The support is the same rate among residents who lost their job, income or work hours due to the coronavirus.
Most Coloradans don’t think state should reopen until more coronavirus testing is available, poll says
I just spent an hour shopping online and the best I could do were some no-name wipes that would ship from China mid-May and arrive late June or July. We can’t get the supplies needed to keep our clients safe, yet out the door we go.
The RE market was already a zoo in the Denver metro, with far more buyers than available inventory. Now even more people want their own house, while for sale inventory’s only gotten worse—Sellers don’t want strangers tromping through their home touching who knows what.
No matter how eager their Buyers are to start shopping, some agents are going to continue to stay home while others are out there selling without adequate supplies. That puts a ton of pressure on the ones staying home as they lose eager clients to agents blessed w/a supply source or willing to list/show without adequate supplies.
I’m feeling the pinch but will likely stay home since I can’t guarantee precautions can be followed and don’t want to catch it, bring it home or contribute to the spread. IMO making us wait a few more weeks would have been safer, and personally the level playing field would be nice.
IMO there’s not a compelling economic reason to let agents loose. Most people wanting to buy/sell homes now would still do so when the can if forced to wait till adequate testing/PPE are available. Yes, it’s a financial hardship for me, but unlike bars, restaurants, etc—much of lost spring real estate sales would be made up later in the year. The financial hardship for the many Realtors in CO is no worse (and probably better) than those in food service and other industries still forced to stay closed. They will never get that revenue back.
I know there are valid dissenting views. This is just my opinion.
