The remarks quoted in the article (below) were made after six staffers tested positive, and discussed the rally that had not yet been held. So the professor was commenting on the number of attendees the Trump campaign expected to attend, not how many actually did.
Do you have a link stating that it was the Trump campaign that was expecting tens of thousands of people and not the professor's exaggerated guess?

The campaign organizers usually select a venue that will accommodate the number of people they're expecting.

In a recent post, 6 campaign members have tested POSITIVE, just before the rally 'so wonder how this spreads'.

Including 2 secret service reported:

“Of the six members of the Trump advance team who tested positive for coronavirus ahead of the Tulsa rally, at least two of them are United States Secret Service agents, a law enforcement official told NBC News.“

Trump Tulsa rally advance team members test positive for coronavirus

He's a funny guy. I guess this was opening night of his Farewell Tour.

Re: COVID, not a word about health workers, all the lives lost, plans going forward as related to CV, unemployment as a result of all this...thirty minutes about a ramp and a glass of water though. Important stuff in the middle of a pandemic.

Here are two of many links google provided:

Speaking to reporters in Washington, the president said the convention hall, the Cox Business Convention Center, near the BOK Center in downtown Tulsa will be used, increasing total capacity to 62,000 for his first campaign rally since early March.

That would mean there would be “over 900,000 people that won’t be able to go, but hopefully they’ll be watching,” Trump said.

“But it’s amazing. No one’s ever heard of numbers like this. We’re going to have a great time. We’re going to talk about our nation. We’re going to talk about where we’re going, where we’ve come from.”

President Trump tweets that almost 1 million people have requested tickets to Saturday's Tulsa rally

Claims of one million reserved tickets never materialized, as many seats in the venue remained empty. Outside the venue, an area to handle a projected overflow crowd was not needed and crews began dismantling the unused stage before Trump's speech began.

A 77 year old lady from our church died last week. She was a wonderful, friendly outgoing person. Her husband died the last day of February. Shortly after the funeral our state basically locked down. She spent all those weeks alone following social distancing. When she couldn't be reached by phone, she was found on the floor by her bed deceased. Neither died from COVID. I wish she could've gone out to be with a friend. I wish I had had her over for dinner.

I'm so sorry.

I am so sorry, @Tillicum. :( It’s been very lonely for so many who need comforting companions. And impossible for us to be hospitable when we want to be. We just this week lost a lovely 90+ year old man from our congregation, who was also found when he couldn’t be reached by phone. Fortunately, we have been congregating on zoom, and he had mastered the technology, so at least we were able to visit that way. But we will miss him, as I know you will miss your friend.

Georgia's confirmed COVID-19 cases top 63,800; Chatham cases up to 760

Chatham County sees record one-day spike in COVID-19 cases

“As the Coastal Health District (CHD) stated on Friday, “one thing is clear: the virus has not gone away and isn’t likely to disappear anytime soon.”

In Georgia on Friday, COVID-19 cases reached 62,009 and deaths totaled 2,636. South Carolina reported 22,608 COVID-19 cases and 639 deaths.

Chatham County saw 58 new cases since Thursday’s report. That’s more than double any previous one-day period.“

Coronavirus in Florida: 4,000 new COVID-19 cases

“Florida reported more than 4,000 new coronavirus cases on Saturday – the largest single-day spike the state has seen since the beginning of the pandemic. It's the third consecutive day Florida announced a record number of new coronavirus cases.“

Florida sets another single-day coronavirus record with more than 4,000 new cases

“Florida on Saturday reported 4,049 new coronavirus cases, another consecutive single-day record increase in cases. The number of statewide infections has surged to at least 93,797.“

Concern rises around NBA with Florida virus spike

“The surging number of coronavirus cases in Florida, which posted a record high Saturday for the third consecutive day, has raised concerns in many corners of the NBA, from players to team executives to the league office itself, as it prepares to resume play in Orlando next month.

Florida added 4,049 new cases Saturday, which broke the previous single-day record of 3,822 set Friday. In all, the state has set records for single-day cases in seven of the past 10 days and is approaching 94,000 infections -- becoming a national hot spot along with Texas and Arizona, states that are also seeing surging case numbers.”

Four states report record highs in coronavirus cases; Florida and Arizona hit hard

“Four states are reporting record highs of confirmed coronavirus cases, raising new concerns that the virus is far from conquered in the United States.

Arizona, Florida, California and Nevadahave all reported spikes in infections in the past week, with the news seemingly getting worse by the day.“

[...]

“Some officials -- including President Trump -- have downplayed the surge, arguing that the increase in infections is largely the result of increased testing. And it remains true that the number of new cases per capita in the most affected states remains low.

But a recent increase in hospitalizations in a number of states is troubling, experts say.“

Utah:

For second day in row, Utah breaks daily COVID-19 case record with 643 confirmed

“SALT LAKE CITY — For the second day in a row, Utah on Saturday broke its daily record of positive COVID-19 tests, with 643 confirmed.

That is 57 more than Friday, which was the state’s previous record at 586 cases. Just over 5,500 more people received tests since Friday’s report with a nearly 11.7% positive rate, according to the Utah Department of Health.

“These numbers are sobering. For three straight weeks now our cases have been increasing at a rate that isn’t sustainable. We are at risk for overwhelming our hospital capacity, which could result in Utahns not getting the medical care they need. The only explanation for this increase in cases is that we are experiencing a real and a dramatic rise in the spread of COVID-19 across our state,” Dr. Angela Dunn, epidemiologist with the state health department, said.“

Dallas County COVID-19 Hospitalizations Hit Record High

“County health officials said almost half of all COVID-19 cases reported since June 1 are in people between 18 and 39 years old.“
