Big Bear shooting of cashier over mask tragedy for coworkers | 11alive.com

Monday night the GBI released the name of the man suspected of killing a supermarket cashier during a dispute over his face mask—Victor Lee Tucker, 30, of Palmetto, Georgia.

The GBI confirmed Monday night that Victor Lee Tucker “got into an argument with a cashier about his facemask,” according to a GBI spokesperson....

“Tucker left the store without making his purchase, but immediately returned inside,” said the spokesperson. “Tucker walked directly back to the cashier, pulled out a handgun, and shot her....”

“He had a mask” on his face, Kim said. “She is just a very cautious person, so she had asked him to pull up his mask. He refused, and walked out, came back in, and did that.....”

A second cashier was “grazed by a bullet,” according to the GBI, and she was treated at the store.

The suspect was being treated for his gunshot wounds at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Could this finally be over? Here is California, we've been told that the pandemic is over.
Everything re-opens tomorrow.
I own a restaurant, so, obviously, I am thrilled.
Yet, I'm worried. However, I am a bit of the worrying type.
California has a pretty good rate of vaccinated people according to our government
Leaders.
I guess, I am just shell shocked over these months of "open-close" directives that have thrown us into chaos so many times.
I would love to throw my masks in the air and say "this war is over"!

I hope so. I know you've had a long, hard road. I guess we've all got good at adjusting our sails, so hopefully we can adjust easier in the future if need be.

Not my own small business, but I do the vendor booths for festivals in my town. We're using pre covid arrangements for booth placement for September and this winter. I'm mentally planning what to do in case anything goes awry in order to spread them out. What a life. I wish you all the best and success!

It has been great to finally becoming "endemic" in my area...(not correct, but how I think of it) such low counts so I now feel safe going to the doctor for the annual visits that I've missed, and making an appointment with my dentist for my bi-annual cleanings....... which this time.... the person who does the cleaning is going to have 3x the work! egads.

Pockets of feeling safe, and timing of feeling safe.... is a breath of fresh air! Crossing fingers, toes, and eyes that it continues and spreads to other areas all over the world. I can't imagine that so many in the world are just beginning their first waves due to not being a part of the world that was so interconnected.

As to how the COVAX should be distributed. What a quandry. That you get high on the list only when you are a hot spot vs. getting it nipped in the bud before. So sad.

I posted about how the flu seemed practically gone here in Australia and now it feels like I may have it.
I've cancelled everything for this week and can stay home another week if I have to.

There haven't been any Covid cases here for a year now and there is only one place I could have picked something up at.
A public place where some have slacked off a bit. There were a few people coughing but none near me.

Yesterday and last night was the worst. There were the sounds of a demon coming from my chest, lol.
I "think" I'm starting to feel a bit better in the last little while.

I had my flu shot three weeks ago, and the first Covid shot a few weeks before that.

I’m sorry you are ill. I hope you recover quickly!

Really happy to hear you've had your 1st covid shot, Tootsie. :)
Starts to give you a sense of freedom, doesn't it? And that only increases once you've had your 2nd shot.

I was just reading an article about queue jumping (in quieter Aussie vaccination hubs) by younger people. The med staff don't care that they are younger ... if they want the AstraZeneca shot they are giving it to them - after clarifying that they understand the rare blood clot risks for younger people.

Seems that all kinds of ages just want their shots. Especially the younger ones who want to get overseas (as soon as vaccinated Aussies are allowed to do so) and see family that they haven't seen in absolutely ages.

.
Novavax is still preparing for release of their covid shot this year. Their timeline has been pushed back to the 3rd quarter of the year (it was supposed to be this month) due to shortages that are occurring with vaccine components.

Novavax is a US vaccine and uses a different delivery system than the other vaccines, and has proved successful in clinical trials. Australia has 51,000,000 doses of Novavax on order (hopefully, we'll get them).

What is the Novavax vaccine, and will it be available in Australia soon?

COVID-19 was likely present in Massachusetts in December 2019, new study says

A new study from the National Institutes of Health suggests that COVID-19 may have present in Massachusetts as early as December 2019.
Researchers with the NIH’s All of Usprogram say they’ve uncovered early evidence of COVID-19 infections in five U.S. states through antibody testing of stored blood samples. More than 24,000 of the samples were collected and tested from people across all 50 states between Jan. 2 and March 18, 2020, researchers said.

I’m sure this isn’t a shock to most of us who’ve been following along.
Had One coworker who traveled internationally over the Holidays
Dec 2019 -jan was sick as a dawg soon after after returning. Fever, cough, flu like symptoms (body aches etc). but the cough was omg. He was drinking honey tea constantly. And wiping the sweat off his brow.

Another coworker was diagnosed with some sort of “sudden onset copd”.(they basically didn’t seem to know what was happening with her all of a sudden shortness of breath) Accompanied by a weird rash A smoker in her early 60s She never had any breathing issues previously and ended up in the hospital for a few days. That was I think late nov early December 2019

and second week of January 2020 my youngest ( 16 at the time) had a few days of fever, headache, nausea AND some really red/purplish toes. That at the time I assumed was related to athletes foot. Mmmmmmm looking back now probably was the rona.

Delta variant now a coronavirus 'variant of concern' - CNN

The variant of concern designation is given to strains of the virus that scientists believe are more transmissible or can cause more severe disease. Vaccines, treatments and tests that detect the virus may also be less effective against a variant of concern. Previously, the CDC had considered the Delta variant to be a variant of interest.

The CDC said the Delta variant, which was first identified in India, shows increased transmissibility, potential reduction in neutralization by some monoclonal antibody treatments under emergency authorization and potential reduction in neutralization from sera after vaccination in lab tests.

People in the Toronto area are lining up at 1 a.m. for vaccination clinics that open at 8 a.m.

By 8:30 a.m. the vaccines were all spoken for and the line dispersed.

The city run clinics have opened a LOT of appointments for next week when a huge shipment of Moderna arrives.

The government is in a race to get that important second shot into the arms of people but its difficult to get a vaccination at the moment.

First day of no mask mandate here in California. I went to grocery store without a mask!
75% were still masked (including all store workers), although new sign on entry doors read "no mask required if you are fully vaccinated".
I bought a steak and bottle of wine. Tonight, I'm celebrating as if it's a holiday.
It is one for me. :-)

Celebration indeed is in order! Steak and wine........ yummy!

NYC opened up also today! Hours of fireworks all over New York!

A statewide fireworks celebration is being held to mark crossing the 70% vaccination threshold and honor the essential workers who were at the frontline of the fight.

India is because of limited testing.

Yes, that ... AND

- Their PM doesn't want big numbers to get out because everyone is already jumping all over him for mishandling the situation
- People aren't being counted because they are being turned away from hospitals, the hospitals are all full
- People are dying at home, and not being counted, their families are just dealing with their remains

It is a horrific situation there. Despite them now not sharing vaccines and vaccinating everyone that they can.

I think my husband and I got the 'Rona around Christmas 2019, from our flight from LAX to Reno. We flew to a family Reunion around Dec 22nd....and we were in a lot of crowded bars, restaurants and casinos and in 2 airports ....My husband got really really sick on the 24th and couldn't even come to the Christmas party with all the family that had flown across country.

He was really sick for 7 days---horrible congestion, hacking cough, high fever, red rash, but didn't want to go to doctor, we just thought it was the flu...but he was weak and fatigued for weeks

I got sick about 5 days after he did, and was very sick for the next 2 weeks. Went to doctor and diagnosed with bronchitis and he though I may have pmuemonia and gave me steroids for my lungs--- prednisone, because I have asthma. I was fatigued and weak for almost a month in total

We should have had antibody tests...I am curious if we got something at the very crowded LAX Christmas week because we were in the International terminal...
