Carl those dentals... that's a match. any news?

The New Britain detective said that Christina Chandler was ruled out, but he didn't know the basis for the rule-out, and was copping a bit of attitude when I talked to him on the phone. I'm not sure I believe that he actually looked. I also submitted this possible match to Alice Buchanan of TXDPS, but they have been very slow to respond to any of the submissions that I have called in to them.

Here's a new story with new reconstruction images. These look quite different than the original, especially since they are saying that her hair was 10-12 inches long. Hopefully this new image produces better leads.

Pamela Dalton: https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/10520/25/

I understand that this one is probably unlikely given that she is missing from Sikeston, MO on May 1, 1991. Her estimates are wide but they are within the range of the UID. The images of her and this reconstruction have similar facial shapes, but she has curly hair versus the straight hair the UID had. She was 33, which is in the NamUs age range of 25-35.

Mary Plavnick: https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/7983/32?current_page=case_information

Missing from Pensacola, FL and last seen alive in 1987. Again, time frame puts a 4 year gap between her and UID. Her missing profile describes "extreme buck teeth" so I thought perhaps she may be worth a look given this. Her height and weight are both close as well. She has straight black hair.

I was just looking at this case again, and realized that Carolyn Lawson's teeth look very close to those on this facial reconstruction, and she is not listed as a rule-out.

In addition:

* Carolyn was last seen only 30 days before these remains were found (11-Sep-91 to 11-Oct-91). The postmortem interval was estimated to be 3 weeks to 4 months.
* Carolyn's height (5 feet 6 inches) is only an inch off from the Jane Doe's height (5 feet 5 inches)
* Carolyn's age 25 is within the Jane Doe's age range (23-28)

The only problem is the distance. But it is not unthinkable that a victim in a kidnapping for ransom would be transported far from where she was kidnapped. Also, being that the Jane Doe was a gunshot victim, that would not be inconsistent to the circumstances either.

BTW, from what I understand, the state of Connecticut is not allowed to use CODIS because of some violations of CODIS' procedures. So we would probably not have a CODIS rule out on this.

Bumping for Jane Doe!

Also, Carl, I think Carolyn looks like a really good match!

(Also, what did you mean about CT and CODIS?)

Christina Chandler is not listed as a rule-out. Her teeth are so similar to the JD, it would be nice to have the rule-out specifically listed. (Especially so no one ends up duplicating work that Carl already spent time doing to inquire about her!)

(And I'd love to know what the rule-out is based on, just out of curiosity. Christina's personal description of liking "Harley" and "biker-style" clothes didn't seem to match the JD's jumper of colorful panda bears, so I wouldn't be shocked if it's not her... But the teeth are so similar!)

Looks like a new image was just added to NamUs yesterday/today! Looks a lot like the one Carl linked upthread... is it the same recon?

She may become a DNA Doe Project case! Her DNA is at the lab for extraction. Fingers crossed they’re able to secure a usable sample so she can have her name back soon.

Just contacted James Wardwell of of New Britain PD. Brenda Condon was ruled out on Dentals.

I forwarded him an e-mail summarizing the case for Christina Chandler. He wasn't able to tell me if she had looked at her yet because he doesn't keep a concise listing of people whom has looked at. The names are scattered through his case file.

But he will look at it, and I will call back in a couple of weeks for follow-up.
Brenda Condon still isn't listed as a ruleout on NamUs, they should update! Unidentified Person Case

New article from October: New Britain Herald - Cold case revisited: 1991 Jane Doe had gunshot wound to head

NEW BRITAIN - While in the Criminal Investigation Division, Detective James Wardwell, now the police chief, took the extraordinary step of personally driving the remains of an unidentified gunshot victim to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner so that she could receive a proper burial.

“I wanted to give her dignity and let her rest in peace,” Wardwell said last week.

The woman, called “Jane Doe” by the police department for nearly three decades, is now again at the center of a new push to learn her identity and who killed her.

Capt. Jeanette Portalatin, the commander of the CID, is seeking a re-examination of the woman’s DNA in the hope that new techniques may finally solve the case. “I figured it was worth a shot,” said Portalatin, who in the past six years has been involved in the identification of at least five other crime victims leading to the arrests of their killers. “Technology is much better than when we tried previously. It’s about determination.”

The woman’s badly decomposed body was found near the railroad tracks in the area of Myrtle Street between Grove and Booth streets on Oct. 11, 1991. She died of a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators estimate she was dead for three weeks to four months before she was found. She is believed to be white or Hispanic and to have been in her late 20s. She was approximately five-feet, five-inches tall, weighed between 130 and 135 pounds and was wearing a jumper-style dress with a panda bear print with umbrellas.

She had straight black hair, about 10 to 12 inches long. Due to her state of decomposition police were not able to tell how she wore her hair. No one reported her missing in New Britain. From the start, police were vexed by the lack of information on who she was and who killed her.

Detectives were able to get a likeness of the woman in the months following her death that was created by shaping clay on her skull. While considered state-of-the-art at the time, the results were crude with a black curly wig placed on her head to approximate what her hair may have looked like.

As the years went on and the department was still investigating, Wardwell realized that the woman had never been buried. “I had conversations with my captain to determine if there was any more evidence to be gleaned from her remains,” Wardwell said.

When he was given the go-ahead, Wardwell contacted the Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner to arrange to have her buried in 2003. She was exhumed by court order in 2011 so that the FBI could use her skull to make an updated likeness that was released to the public that same year.

The new rendition received back from the FBI Visual Arts Unit shows a woman with a smile and clearly defined facial features. But the 2011 likenesses didn’t generate any leads that led to her identity.

After the exhumation, she was laid to rest a final time in an unmarked grave. “She deserves that dignity,” Wardwell said of her burial. “She deserves to be identified and she deserves to have her killer brought to justice.”

Anyone who may have information on the woman or the case is asked to call Portalatin at 860-826-3120. Anonymous tips can be left on the Community Tip Line at 860-826-3199 or emailed to www.newbritainpolice.org/anonymous-tips . Tips can be left in Spanish or English.

Some of her facial features are hard to discern due to the nature of clay recons being mono-colored. So I made a colored version FBI recon.
Please note that the eye color, hair style, and clothing are/might be inaccurate.
