Search underway in Cockaponset State Forest for missing 81-year-old Haddam man

Search and rescue teams are at Cockaponset State Forest on Thursday where they are looking for an 81-year-old Haddam man who has been missing since Sunday. When he was last seen, he was wearing a white shirt and black pants, according to the Silver Alert that was issued.

Normand Manning’s nephew Zach Manning said Thursday afternoon the search in and surrounding Cockaponset State Forest has been ongoing for over 96 hours “with no results — not a clue, not a torn piece of his shirt, not a dropped pair of eyeglasses he always carries with him, not a lost shoe, no evidence whatsoever.”

Two years ago, Normand Manning suffered a stroke that left him with slow motor skills and limited use of the left side of his body,

He visited family on Burr Road on Sunday and decided to walk home through the forest, which he has done in the past.

He was seen around 4:15 p.m. Sunday on three Ring cameras walking just before the entrance to the state forest in Higganum off Old County Road, his nephew said. He was carrying a white, plastic shopping bag with a loaf of cinnamon bread inside he had gotten at church that morning.

About an hour later, Zach Manning said, a bicyclist spotted him on the white trail, which is narrow with rough terrain, going toward Pattaconk Lake in Chester.

The family reported him missing at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Taking from your post: Two years ago, Normand Manning suffered a stroke that left him with slow motor skills and limited use of the left side of his body, Zach Manning said. He also walked with a shuffle. could he have fallen? IMO

HADDAM — An 81-year-old Haddam man who vanished nearly a week ago was found dead Saturday in the Cockaponset State Forest, state police said.
