WESH 2 Went To Church, Saw No Sign Of Anthony

PALM CITY, Fla. -- Casey Anthony could be hiding out on church property, according to reports on TheDailyBeast.com.

The website reported Wednesday that Anthony could be on property at a church in Palm City.

There was also word that protesters were heading in that direction, according to Anthony-related tweets on Twitter.

WESH 2 went to the church in St. Lucie County last week, but there was no sign of Anthony.

No one from the church was willing to comment.

Neighborhood residents drawn to the media trucks and flashing lights got an eyeful. People with signs stating "Hide your Kids" roamed the street. Pro-Casey residents rode by, yelling "Casey is innocent!"

Michael Wedgwood, 17, said he caught a glimpse of Anthony, 25, receiving a police escort off the property she was rumored to be calling home.

"She left in a white Hyundai. A newer model. She was in the back seat," said Wedgwood, who rode his bicycle to the scene. "Her hair is blonde and she was hiding her face."

Wedgwood said the neighborhood had been in an uproar since the Daily Beast's report hit the Web two to three hours prior. The article states Camp neither confirms nor denies questions about Anthony living on the compound and attending church services.

Camp could not be reached for comment Wednesday night.

Wedgwood said word on the street is Anthony is undergoing counseling and participating in church outreach programs — one of which is next to neighboring Palm City Elementary. Wedgwood added parents on the block are upset Anthony is so close to children.

AUGUSTA, Maine -- A pair of bills requiring notification of authorities when a child is missing drew support Thursday from Gov. Paul LePage, police and lawmakers who said they have been flooded with emails since the event that inspired the proposals: the acquittal of 2-year-old Caylee Anthony's mother in Florida.
In Maine, outraged citizens have demanded legislation to prevent that from happening in their state, "to send a clear message that such neglect will not be tolerated," said Rep. Joyce Maker, R-Calais, who spoke in favor of both bills Thursday.
One bill would make failing to report a missing child within 24 hours a crime, and the other would make it a crime to fail to report a missing child under 13 years old within 48 hours.

Orange County Deputy Sheriff Larry Lockwood says, “Ms. Anthony was allowed to go over a month without reporting her child missing, which definitely hindered the investigation, and then the ultimate results which we saw I think its going to have parents be more responsible and step up and report and when they don’t its going to hold them accountable.”

Short article:

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —

One of Casey Anthony's attorneys, Cheney Mason, confirmed on national television that her lead attorney, Jose Baez, is no longer Casey's attorney.

After weeks of speculation, Mason said on "In Session" Thursday night that Baez hasn't been representing Casey for months.

But when WFTV checked the clerk of courts website, Baez had not filed a notice that he's no longer representing her.

Mason said he and Lisabeth Fryer are representing Casey in her appeal and her probation.

Casey Anthony answers Texas EquuSearch's questions
Anthony breaks silence in EquuSearch case

Published On: Jan 20 2012 04:49:57 PM EST Updated On: Jan 20 2012 05:01:46 PM EST

"Casey Anthony has submitted her responses on Friday to the two questions regarding her daughter, Caylee, in the EquuSearch case required by court order.

According to court documents, Anthony admitted that she did not observe or hear her father, George Anthony, call 911 to report that he or she had discovered that her daughter had drowned in the swimming pool at her parents' house June 16, 2008.
But Anthony denied that she was aware EquuSearch was conducting searches for Caylee in September and October 2008." .......

PIERRE, SD - A bill inspired by the Caylee Anthony case is making its way through the South Dakota legislature.
Caylee Anthony is the two-year-old girl from Florida who disappeared in the summer of 2008 and was found dead nearly six months later
"We've proposed to the legislature basically a notice to law enforcement that a caretaker, if there's a 13-year-old child or younger missing within a 48-hour time period, they need to report that to local law enforcement or it's a misdemeanor," South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley said.

In an answer revealed Friday, Anthony said she was not aware Texas EquuSearch was looking for the child in September and October 2008. Of course, that information was all over the news then.

But maybe Casey wasn’t watching. Or maybe she was fogged in on Planet Casey.

"Tim Miller, director of Texas EquuSearch, scoffed at Anthony’s response in an interview with WESH-Channel 2. “Of course, she knew,” Miller said. ”She got our business card when we walked in the door [of the family home]. We gave her a flier to get her approval, that she approved the wording on the flier. Yes, yes, she knew.”

The other Anthony response in the EquuSearch lawsuit: She did not observe or hear her father, George, call 911 to report that Caylee had drowned in the family swimming pool in 2008.

In July, Anthony was acquitted of murder in the toddler’s death. At the trial, her defense said Caylee drowned.

Texas EquuSearch asks: If that was the case, why was there a need for a search for Caylee?"

More than six months after Casey Anthony's attorneys filed notice they intend to appeal her criminal convictions, they have yet to submit an initial brief laying out the substance of her legal challenge.
'It's a long delay'
Assistant Attorney General Wesley Heidt, who is handling the appeal for the state, said "it's a long delay, but not extraordinarily so," considering the volume of paperwork.
Heidt said he suspects Anthony's legal challenges may involve double-jeopardy issues and questions of whether law enforcement properly advised Anthony of her Miranda rights early on in the case. But all of that, he said, is speculation "until I get a brief in hand." And while the appeal is ongoing, "she has a right not to incriminate herself."
With their lawsuit having lingered now since September 2008, González's lawyers could ask for a continuance and try to put off the trial.
"We're not at that point yet," Morgan said. "We will likely circle the wagons and figure out how to proceed right before the trial."
